By all accounts Mark was not separating himself. Also, if a GM wants to force the hand of HC to start his QB, he would draft this QB in the first round. Idzik had 2 opportunities to do this and passed. I'm a Sanchez and Rex fan like I think you are and I think the competition was good for all parties and legit. What was a sham was Rex's decision to insert Sanchez in that game.
It was absolutely a sham competition. Matt Simms was outright the best QB the Jets put on the field in pre-season.
Hey, games are just one component in the overall competition evaluation equation. A big component but a component nonetheless Even if there is disagreement on how much separation there was between them, the stupidity of Rex's decision I don't think can be argued.
He's a reason but the biggest reason? Nah. Our secondary has given up X amount of plays deep, our OLine has been real inconsistent, injuries have hurt us at the skill positions when we weren't deep to begin with, running game has been hot-cold-hot-cold(Powell getting hardly any touches is a ??? to me) and our pass rush has come in flurries as opposed to being reliable each and every single game. He's a problem without a doubt but THE problem? That's not fair.
That Kellen Clemens kid is torching it up for the Rams.....we ran him out of town to force feed Sanchez on Day 1 in 2009.
To be fair, Geno had a messed up ankle which made the Giants game look bad as he could not get any of his throws planted. He sucked it up to show his teammates he is tough though he should have been resting. Sanchez should have destroyed the shit Jags D and if he did, I think he would have been the starter. But really folks....Blaine Gabbert lighting up our secondary and Milliner in particular should have been a huge red flag to begin with in regards to our secondary. If our pass rush isn't coming, we have ineptitude in the back four(Minus Allen who has done yeoman's work) that teams will pick on time and time again.
Courtesy of Zac Stacy and having some decent weapons(How Schotty neglected Austin this long is a joke. You have Bailey on your team to Schotty) Clemens has been more than respectable this year, unbelievably.
I'm saying that in case Geno sucks we need a vet that can step in and play. We need an insurance policy.
if they wanted to go one way, then they would have done so. no tricks, theres no point wasting time for something like that. If the organization was so sure of Sanchez, than there wouldn't be a competition at all or it would have ended. Its not like sanchez ripped up the competition himself.
I was just poking fun at Junc since Clemens never really got much of a chance here since egomaniac Favre never wanted to relinquish his starting streak and Clemens played on a horrendous 2007 squad with a shit OLine among other stuff. (Not even defending Clemens, he is what he is) Clemens and Sanchez wasn't much of a training camp competition either, Sanchez was the golden boy for Rex in 09 too like Geno was for Idzik in 13.
I know you were just making fun; I was doing the same. Clemens "lighting it up" in any context warrants some level of ribbing. Couldn't help myself. I'm done. As you were
This was a John Idzik decision, if Rex had the power Mark would have been starting. Idzik drafted geno and wanted him to start, it's as simple as that. Mark did fine this summer and certainly MUCH better than Geno.
