Simms played in garbage time against 3rd stringers. Our WRs are basically 3rd stringers still but he will be going against legitimate Defenses and I dont see him being ready for that. Geno isn't read either but at least he has some starts under his belt. I wouldnt mind having a quick leash with Geno and pulling him for Simms.

There is no doubt that Geno has been worse at this point in his career than Mark has ever been.

though I am not sure if you are pointing this out to defend Mark or to simply put Geno's awfulness into perspective. I don't think Mark never having been as awful as Geno is right now is a defense of Mark Sanchez. not being as bad as another bad QB doesn't make you good.

All pre-season games are garbage time.

He hit on 67% of his passes against the Bills starters on Sunday with a TD.

I like Simms; good or bad he makes his decisions quickly. I think he's likely to throw a lot of INTs as well, but I think his TD to INT ratio would be more even.

Just stating a fact that w/ less talent and Sparano running the offense mark wasn't as bad as Geno has been. It's disappointing, I was hopeful Geno would improve(and he still can) but it appears Idzik has sabotaged our season based on the sham competition which ultimately got Mark hurt.

Why do you blame Idzik for Sanchez getting hurt? Rex is the moron that put him in the game.

If it was up to Rex Mark would have been named starter, started that NYG game and been out long before the 4th qtr. Idzik's sham competition led rex to play Mark in the 4th.

I agree that Sanchez got put in the game by Idzik more so than Rex but to say Idzik wanted Sanchez to get hurt is a little bit much. Sanchez was the backup and backups play with backups against backups. Sanchez never got setup to get killed, the same could have happened to Geno Smith if the roles reversed.

Why woulden't Idzik want to keep Sanchez on the bench and then trade him to a QB hungry team like maybe Chicago or St. Louis or Oakland by the deadline with the amount of QB injuries that have happened. Even if it gives us a late round pick if at most.

I am pretty amazed that the Geno thread has gotten this much blown up. The way people are acting, he is the sole reason we have 5 losses nevermind the secondary, the inconsistent play of our RB, OL and WR and our guys just not getting up for some games.

Every team has multiple reasons for losing. Doesn't change the fact that Geno is the biggest reason.

sham competition? c'mon Junc you're smarter than this.

what point would there be in having a sham competition when one can just start the man they want and give them full reps and attention?

They genuinely weren't sure if they wanted to move on, and thats why they had it. end of story, if they were so sure one outcome would not only occur but would help them win games they'd do it immediately.

there is no benefit to a sham, even if fans hated the idea of Sanchez starting wining would put in a cork in it.

I don't think discussing how awful he has been is absolving the other deficiencies on the team.

Don't know about that. All Idzik wanted was competition at the position which I agree with. At the time Rex put Sanchez in the game the competition was over. Sanchez had won it ever so slightly. I think Rex just wanted his boy's win to be more decisive and leave no doubt in the minds of fans and pundits. That same twisted thought process was in play when he inserted Sanchez unscripted at the end of the G&W scrimmage to salvage what was going to be a sub par performance. I doubt very much Idzik told him to insert Sanchez that late. It's just another example of Rex coaching with his heart or nuts instead of his head.

How did Idzik put him in the game? Just by having the competition? What am I missing?

It was a complete sham, Mark was better than Geno by a wide margin in camp. if anyone thought Geno was ready his first start against NYG told us all we needed to know.

Idzik didn't get to pick his coach and he wanted to pick his QB.

mark won it by a wide margin not ever so slightly.

Idzik didn't tell him to but if the sham competition wasn't going on mark starts that game after being declared the starter for the season opener which is how it should have gone as Geno clearly wasn't ready. geno could have watched and learned from the sidelines and if mark slipped up he could have eventually come in more ready to play.

Face it, guys - at this time the Jets HAVE NO quarterback. What they have is a place-filler, just as they had Sanchez as a place-filler before him. Can Smith become more than that? Too soon to tell. But it would be nice if we could remember when the Jets had a real quarterback with any sense of permanence for us and them.
