As much as I've liked a lot of what I've seen from Geno, regardless of stats, I think it's time to send a message and start Simms.

Best thing that can happen is it lights a fire under his ass.
Worst case scenario Simms lights it up and we've got a legit competition for next season or trade bait in the offseason.

They're not going to start Simms against the Ravens in Baltimore as his first start. That's trial by fire and by that I mean a huge flaming blowtorch on the QB's ass the whole game.

Geno has at least one more real chance to pull things out of his own personal fire and start sorting things out. It's in a horrible place to do it but it's a chance.

You have a QB right now that can only complete a pass 15+ yards down the field to a wide open receiver. He isn't completing screen passe, shallow crossing routes, sideline out routes, and the slant has been removed from the playbook because he apparently can't pull the trigger fast enough to make it work.

So you have a QB that needs to sit in the pocket and watch a man come fully open before making a decision to throw and has poor pocket awareness. He also forgets he has the ability to run every other week.

And a lack of playmakers. And a ground and pound head coach. And the defense not getting turnovers. And no running game. And the FB not picking up blitzes. And he's only a rookie. And dropped passes and receivers running the wrong routes. And an archaic offensive coordinator-LOL.

We've gone from Offensive Rookie of the Year and projections of 4800 yards passing to this.

    This thread has turned comical.

Santonio Holmes got hurt. Then Kellen Winslow got suspended and with that lost the confidence of the coaching staff. Stephen Hill has been a zero for the middle part of the season. Jeff Cumberland got hurt. Jeremy Kerley is hurt now.

This is a huge part of the Jets offensive decline the last 5 weeks. When a team with limited talent and weapons on the offensive side loses the best ones and fails to develop the guys who might step up things get very messy in a hurry.

It's hard for us to see, because Geno is playing terribly at this point, but if you zoom back up high and look at the big picture it becomes clear that he's been in about the worst position a rookie QB can be in. Almost nobody on his side of the ball is reliable in any way and they keep switching in and out from week to week.

    Yeah, it's ugly with a capital U.

SO how is this any different from last year? Sancho should have overcome the same issues Geno is having yet Geno gets sympathy because hes a rookie?

I don't care who the fuck you have back there, with the lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball 29 of the 32 starting QB's in the NFL fail.

It's different because Sanchez never established the likelihood that he was a good prospect that needed developing. When you have 3+ years that suggests that you are mediocre it's up to you to change that. If you get screwed by bad talent around you, as Sanchez did, well times up.

    That's just what it is.

If Geno was struggling in his 4th season after never establishing himself as a quality QB we'd all want him gone too.

BTW, you set the table for a rookie QB before you invite him to sit down and eat.

Going into this year the Jets had holes at LG and RG. They had a subpar WR corps. They had an acceptable TE corps, but barely so. They had no established RB, although they had a couple who looked like they might be able to do the job.

Look at the Jets offensive roster and ask yourself what a rookie QB was supposed to do to make things better given all the questions.

I think 32 TDs in 2011 and a top tier red zone offense showed he had upside. They just destroyed it in 2012.

don't bother. They think Chaz Schilens and tony Sparano were great for Mark's development.

Bradwaysucks has to defend his position that "we got value" by picking Geno. Congrats Jets, you won the draft day value competition! Your prize: 8 TDs, 16 INT, 4 fumbles, a 56% completion rating, and no QB of the future!

it is a bit pathetic that we fight about who is the best option of Sanchez or Geno. Not sure anybody else would bother.

We have more talent on the offensive side of the ball this year than last but injuries have hampered us and the loss of Kerley is huge. No this is not a good situation for a rookie QB which is why he should have never started and had time to work on the huge flaws in his game. I blame Rex and Idzik for the Sanchez blunder with him getting hurt we could use a Vet QB at this point.

A big part of the issue with Geno is that DC have figured him out. MM did a masterful job playing to his strengths in the games he played well in but the tape does not lie and Geno has been found out early.

He locks on to his primary read to long if he has time and the receiver has time to get open Geno can make the throw but that is putting a lot of pressure on the oline. Because he can't, won't or does not know how to move in the pocket the outside rush becomes more effective as he steps back into the rush or stand their like a statue and gets killed.

Add to that that he can not complete intermediate routes (not because he cant make the throw but because he cant read the defense of throw quick enough) This is Kaps trouble also receivers have to be wide open to complete a pass.

The screen game is harder because of everything else not because he cant throw a screen.

Geno is a project and would have made huge strides sitting behind Sanchez and studying film and working on his drop backs from under center. What we have now is a young QB with flawed mechanics getting beat up and losing confidence. (does any of this sound familiar?) It would actually be better for Geno if the Jets sucked and there was no playoff pressure so you could just let the ball fly. Trying to win and develop a flawed rookie QB we are getting another Sanchez.

The most important thing to find out between now and the end of the season is do we have a QB going forward. If MM and Lee feel we do then, you have to give him legitimate weapons. If they don't feel he is the guy you have to draft a QB early and likely in the first round. Despite what Rex thinks, it's an offensive league and you need playmakers.

The fact that there was chatter before the season from some within the Jets org that Matt SImms should be starting tells you some people feel he had proven himself in pre-season. Geno is proving he needs a lot of work. Simms might also need a lot of work, but he seems more capable of moving this offense like it was designed.

I disagree, Sanchez was and still is in my eyes a good prospect. I'm not going to de-rail this thread into another Sanchez thread. All I am saying is that both Geno and Sanchez have had issues with the FO acquiring skilled players on the offensive side of the ball. Does this translate into the lack of successes each QB and the team as a hole is having? I would think so

To me this is more of an indictment on the FO than the QB position. Again, take your pick of everyone not named Breese, Manning, Rodgers, or Brady and they will all struggle in this scenario.

This team needs proven weapons, not PROJECTS! When josh Cribbs is your most dynamic playmaker, there are some real issues...
