The one stat that shows a lot of this bad play is not attributed to Geno blowing it: Offensive line has allowed 35 sacks, the 4th most in the league paired with 71 hits. /thread
I don't think anyone is happy about the TO's and I don't care about excuses or whether Geno is at fault, MM's is fault or the OL's is at fault. It is what it is and with poor protection he plays poorly and with good protection he plays well. A more experienced QB would make better reads at the line and get the ball out faster. But we do not have that QB we have a guy learning the game. In terms of your point about TO's I can't imagine there is an excuse for them but a better question is why are having the TO's. Look at the TO's the last 6 games and what is the common theme? By my count (please check my math as it may be wrong) Geno has 10 TO's in those 6 games. 9 of the TO's are when we are behind 10+ or more points. Only 1 of those TO's are when the game is close. Are those are TO's from trying to do to much? His play has not gotten us behind or the reason why we were losing. Now that being said the game against the Bills was IMO the most discouraging game he has played. After that early hit he was never the same. He was hesitating, he was less decisive, he lost the pocket presence he has shown the last 6 games and threw a number of throws off his back foot. It was the most Sanchezesque performance of his career. But more important to me than his play against the Bills is his outlook over the next 6 games. I am not optimistic. If the OL keeps playing this badly every game he will not survive. We have not had a QB take a beating like this since O'Brien. But bigger than the physical beating is the mental beating. Its the lack of confidence, the hesitation, the not planting your feet, the indecisiveness that sets in. Eventually resulting in playing scared. We have only seen it from Geno twice now; against Pitt and against the Bills, where we was hesitating and not following through on his throws. But at some point that beating takes its toll. Unless we can learn to protect the QB something much better than we have done the rest of the season does not look good and like I said earlier taking such a beating and loss of confidence is not a good thing for the rest of his career. Even if we have a losing season I would like to see Geno progress and finish the season on a high note going into next year with confidence. The reverse and the direction we seem to be headed will make it a rough off-season for him and his future development.
Brady throws TD he is on sidelines nipple to nipple with Josh Mcdaniels studying and scheming. geno throws 400 picks, and he just sits all alone Marty comes over, but Geno blows him off I really am disappointed
Junc isn't just the captain that goes down with the ship, he is the skipper of the USS Sanchize sitting on the ocean floor, gasping on a shrinking trapped air bubble, banging on the porthole blathering about his vessel's seaworthiness. Bravo.
And the funny thing is, he believes he is the only super fan who can watch a football game and come away with any reality!!! His defense of Nacho will never end. Anyone in their right mind could see that in 09 & 10, our defense was good enough to win us a Super Bowl. Reality is, nacho held us back both years! Now he is leading the charge in lynching Geno because, now it's his team.... Not Nacho's! Put it this way junc, Nacho had way way better teams than Geno has now, or will have a year from now! Junc, it's over, your Qb is history! He isn't an NFL Qb, never was, never will be. Don't get attached to players, the love for the team comes first, learn that and then you can can be an average fan like the rest of us!!! Not the superman superfan, you truly believe you are!! You only wish you had the football knowledge you believe you have!
It was a problem but tell us which QB would have played well under the circumstances. The game plan was archaic to say the least. Ground and Pound is over. This NFL throws the rock. The OL is done at the LT and center positions and to say that the L.OG is doing well is a lie. We have a rookie FB who misses more blocks then he makes yet you need to blame Geno. Its a team GAME.
WELL DID THE DEFENSE EVER GET THE BALL BACK FOR GENO? Rex's arachaic game plan was to run the ball on the first two downs or short passes to the FB of all people. The OL did not open holes in the run game and suddenly it was 3rd and a bunch to go. EVERY oNE knew a pass was dialed up and they pinned their ears back and rushed the passer. The OL failed to block at all and Geno took a horrible beating. Your boy Sanchez would have folded his tent and sulked on the sidelines after that first monster hit. Geno got up and played under the worst circumstances. Be critical all you want but tell us in your infinite wisdom which NFL QB would have done well with that OL yesterday. A QB can not pass on his back except for your boy. He can't pass on his feet either!
10 games and you are giving him the benefit of the doubt? NONSENSE! The guy has NO receivers ; a headcase err coach that wants an archaic offensive game plan called the Ground and Pound; the OL is horrible and seldom gives him time to set to pass; he has played with 17 different receivers this year. So tell us about your benefit of the doubt nonsense. Please tell us how you want Sanchez next year! That will clear up your alleged benefit of the doubt.
agreed BUT how come our HC plays an archaic scheme? This NFL is a throwing league. We run, run and if short then throw. But the defense knows it and pins their ears back and here they come. Down goes Geno. Yes its really Geno's fault! Give me a break! its a TEAM game and the team is not well loaded with original thinkers at the HC position not do we have great offensive players! I wonder how Sanchez would have played against the Bills with all the things going against him right from the start! rotflmao
Defenses know Geno can't throw, he panics in pressure and backs up, and he isn't completing passes. So defenses can send as many guys as they want since Geno just can't hurt them. He is playing like he did in Atlanta and defenses are playing way more conservative, more coverage, less exotic blitzing.
I think the Jets are forced into run first because the coaching staff has no confidence in Geno, he is hitting under 50% of his passes, and looks lost. they are doing their best to try and make thinks easy for him, but he can't even complete a screen pass at the moment. The guy has a monster case of the yips.
Now we are blaming the oline? Are you kidding me Kentucky you blast Sanchez every chance you get then defend Geno with worse excuses. Strip sack fumble Geno had plenty of time. Two picks Geno had plenty of time. Geno could not beat the blitz or check to the right call. He has thrown four pick sixes. He has completed only 16 passes in two games I don't care who your oline is that is pathetic. He looked lost from the first snap and even worse looks like he can't play in bad weather. He needs time to sit an watch and learn from the sideline before he is ruined forever. This is not sparano calling plays it is Mm and they are afraid to let Geno throw. Eight completions two picks is just pathetic no matter how bad your oline plays. Geno's worse attribute is he does not know how to move in the pocket to avoid that first pressure and buy time. He stands there and gets hit he dies not step up to the side nothing. Simms limited time you at least saw him move in the pocket that fact alone he deserves a shot and is a reason the oline wants him so they stop looking so bad.
What amazes me is he can't even complete the easy stuff. Screens - which he made a name for himself throwing in college are now all over the place. Slants - where the hell is the slant pass in this WCO? Sanchez through slants during pre-season---it is the easy play. Receiver gets inside position, hit him in stride, and run. Pats live by the screen and slant - you don't need deep balls and protection to throw quick slants and screens. Simple crossing route - he tossed the same interception on the same pattern twice against the Bills. That wasn't a receiver issue of a sneaky defense he just forgot there are other defenders out there. As for moving in the pocket - i find his first move is to backup for some reason. A safety comes off the edge, step up let the guy run around you and throw or run. He back up and spins all the time.
Geno unfortunately has a ceiling and a very low floor which is why we're seeing what we're seeing We all want a QB with no ceiling and a very high floor but its rare He needs time, its 10 games into year 1 and he's 5-5 let things play themselves out
Wont be long an they'll resort to the color system they used with Sanchez, I can't wait to see how Idzik addresses the QB issue in the off season, it become obvious why Geno fell to the second round, unfortunately the Jets decided to make him there project.
10 games is time, he's progressively gotten worse and were fighting for a playoff spot so we don't have the luxury of allowing him to have 3+ turnovers. He's clearly not ready to start and is limiting the offense with his inability to even complete a simple curl or hitch route. 16 completions in 2 weeks and MM loves to throw, that tells me all I need to know about his confidence in Geno.
sacks aren't always on the OL. Our OL has been good this year. There are many knowledgeable fans, folks like you aren't one of them but I appreciate how hard you try. Folks like you said "anyone but mark" and now those same folks are ready to move on from geno already. It's really sad. that is not what we have done at all this year, we have passed way too much.
Ya an Geno holding onto the ball to long, an not stepping up in the pocket has a lot to do with that, stats can are a most times very misleading.
