The difference this year is we don't have the best D in the league in every category and we don't have a consistently dominating running game with a couple of weapons who could actually run a route reliably every time.

Geno not being asked to do much isn't going to get us to the playoffs. Yesterday our team was outclassed all over the field. The coaching staff doesn't have the luxury of having the QB hand the ball off and look at one primary and throw the ball away if their covered.

And that 2009 team still only went 9-7. They also caught a few breaks along the way.

we didn't have the best D in the league in 2009, our run game wasn't dominating outside of a game or 2 against bad teams. You may want to watch football instead of looking at stat sheets.

Geno was awful yesterday but I don't see a game manager winning yesterdays game for us. We got flat beat in way to many phases of the game to think that the QB playing to not turn the ball over wins that game.

Which team had the best defense in the league? Other than maybe Baltimore I cant think of anyone else that season.

Our oline was getting blown off the ball. Geno got the deer in headlights look and that was it. We dont have the benefit of lining up and running behind Alan Faneca and Damian Woody this season.

If the Jets could run the ball- they would.

Baltimore's D wasn't as good as our D in 09. We had the best D in the league in 09 and it wasn't close.

The deep passing game of the Bills was enough to win a tight game. We got blown out because Geno turned the ball over but that was a loss that was going to happen even if he protected the football. He'd have had to be able to throw downfield, like he did in the last meeting, to keep that game close or win it.

Yes, the Jets are getting pushed off the line of scrimmage on the left and they're not very steady on the right and Mangold is trying to keep things together. That's very hard to do with the overall level of talent the Jets have on the line at the moment.

People say Austin Howard is having a good year but he got turned around and pushed back yesterday also. Nobody on that line had a good game.

The Jets had one of the top 10 defenses of the first decade of the 21st century in 2009. It wasn't an all-time good defense by any means, although it might have been a top 10 all-time defense against the pass before the CB's started dropping like flies late in the season.

As you pointed out, nobody was close to the Jets defense in 2009. The team gave up 236 points that year despite the QB throwing 20 picks and fumbling a few more away. That's a heck of an achievement.

Right now if feels like Geno is Mark's long lost twin. Can it get any worse then these two?

I still had confidence with Sanchez as the QB. He just carried himself differently...has some life to him. I don't know what it is but Geno give off a defeated vibe to him when he walks onto the field.

They played the Colts better than we did in the playoffs but other than that I'd agree.

is there a thread to discuss the REAL problem in yesterday's game.... the FACT that our apparently vastly overrated "Sons of Anarchy" and the rest of the DL allowed Manuel to stand in the pocket and eat dinner without any pressure of any kind whatsoever...

A Bills offensive line that was pretty much trampled all season by just about every defensive front they have faced, all with allegedly less talent than our guys

You don't think Geno having 4 turnovers on only 21 passing attempts is a problem?

It is easy to blame a defense when they are on the field all day. Guess rex wants it that way. It backfired . I really believe that rex's gameplan was to punt and try and get turnovers so lil geno does not have to win the game but not lose it.

bal's D was better than ours, many D's were better than ours but the rankings don't tell you that so I can see how you get confused.

I am with the guy JETFAN . Geno's a bust. I just wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

they had a quick passing game, great game plan. even the deep balls were basically jump balls thrown up giving their players the chance to make a play, it wasn't EJ standing in the pocket forever waiting for them to get open.

I'm curious to know what the carries were as that is more of a reflection of the what the commitment to the running game was. Also, if my memory serves me right, I believe in 2009 we racked some huge rushing #s against some very poor rushing defenses (i.e., OAK, BUF, IND...etc.) which may have skewed the average a bit. Lastly, when you get behind early because of points off turnovers, the running game is the first thing to go. In 2009, we were close enough in games that we could still run. That really hasn't been the case in some of our losses this year.

That #1 ranking was based on yardage allowed. For someone to say we had the best D and "it wasn't even close" is revisionist history or plain lack of football knowledge.
