There was no game film on Sanchez and no game film on Smith, but they both got the start. Simms has his preseason time, some mop up duty time, and had 11 weeks of the regular season going through prep, film study, game planning, working with guys that are on the field. I have more faith in Simms playing in Baltimore as an unknown that Smith starting in Baltimore as a known.
They were both high picks and picked high for a reason. This doesn't mean Simms can't play but it is a monumental difference going from late game preseason action and mop up reg season action to reg season in the NFL. everyone prefers the unknown to the known, last year it was "anyone but sanchez"- well you got anyone but Sanchez and we see what has happened.
Actually Rex Ryan "ran" him out of town. In a meaningless game. Add Sanchez to that list. They had two weeks to get "ready". How'd they look? Yep. In the playoff hunt. But you're right in one regard. They should have hammered the run yesterday....and probably shouldn't have done their prep at Dave & Buster's.
I like Sanchez and I think he really could have had a good season this year. I didn't like the Geno pick and felt they had other needs they could have filled with that pick instead of reaching for a QB that they didn't like the first time they saw him. Geno was a high pick because he played at a school that for part of his senior season challenged for a BCS Bowl game, but he lost his last 5 including the always impressive Pinstripe Bowl. He strength was throwing 5 yard or shorter passes to NFL caliber receivers and watching them run for 70 yards. Simms played at Tenn in college which is a program in a tough conference so he has played against future NFL talent. Until Tom Brady played he was a guy that had a good college career but was often times benched on his college team because someone else was supposed to be the guy. Maybe Simms is just a diamond in the rough looking for the right place to shine. Why not the jets? Why can't they make a move that works out big time for them now and again?
He could be the next Nick Foles or the next Mark Sanchez. At what point does Geno get the hook? You have to think Rex will play whomever gives the team the best chance to win as its probably his job on the line as well.
whiny fans ran him out, it's why we got a new GM, it's why that new Gm made the sham competition and why Rex played him in that meaningless game. w/ Mark we lose yesterday, the team wasn't ready but if mark started all year we'd have at least 2 more wins and be battling NE for the div title but congrats! you got your wish and now the next wish of the average NYJ fan is to get rid of Geno then it will be to get rid of Simms then get rid of whoever we draft next year!
Brady shared time w/ the guy that was supposed to be the greatest prospect in decades. Brady was excellent in college. Maybe Simms will be great? maybe he will be worse but I don't think our season will turn on Matt Simms. you mean he could be a guy that throws a lot of TDs in meaningless games vs. a guy who won a ton of big games?
If Simms can give the offense even a little spark is it more than Geno has done in 5 weeks. Way too many 3 and outs, awful passes, turnovers -- i don't see what he is actually bringing to the table. There best pass play in 5 weeks was Josh Cribbs throwing the ball.
And in your mind Sanchez was just short of perfect. Don't forget, the same coaches you have so much faith in were the same coaches that inserted Sanchez into that meaningless game. Ironic, ain't it?
as great as Marty has been he needs to have a more Saints like gameplan, we abandoned the run way too quickly yesterday. we need to ride the run game and give Geno safe throws to make.
I agree. The Jets would be much better with Sancez right now. Last year in the early part of the season, Geno looked good. But when you break down the film, this poster is right. He had great receivers and he still struggled to win. That is why I was very much against picking him. Plus he seems a little head case.
Part of that was he had the wind at his back in the 2nd -- that was the opportunity to make some plays through the air. The running game was below average - ivory's late run skewed the numbers a bit. At some point you need to be able to say I believe myQB can make some plays through the air...who thinks Geno is capable of that?
Geno has made a ton of plays through the air this year. yes the wind may have played a role but down 10-0 they needed to get something going and abandoning the run game wasn't the way to go. we didn't run well but we barely ran, just b/c you struggle part of the game doesn't mean you stop. if that was the case Shonn Green doesn't get his chance at Cincy and SD in the 2009 playoffs as we struggled running most of those games.
Name the last one? What plays has he made through the air since the Atlanta game? If he had kept developing post Atlanta he would be playing some great QB right now, but since that pinnacle of his season he has been on a free fall.
We never abandoned the run common sense says you must pass sometimes to clear the 8 man box. Buffalo did not respect Geno's ability to throw even a little bit, they played the run all the way same way the Saints did. We didn't have the luxury of the Bills blowing containment and allowing Ivory to break a long one like what happened against the Saints. The fact is the coaching staff has been slowly taking the ball out of Geno's hands more and more every week and it makes you wonder why. He is horrid under center, never adjusts his protection, his throws outside the numbers have been inaccurate and his throws over the middle late, and he stares at his primary receiver all day long. I honestly wish Sanchez was healthy right now because we need a veteran to step in and take over the helm.
