How was he lost vs the Saints? He knew what he was doing that entire game, he just wasn't asked to do much at all in the game. He just needed to get the Saints D to respect the pass game enough for Ivory to kill them on the ground.
8/19 115 yards is not exactly NFL caliber. Think what you want though. The Jets won, which is all that matters.
vs a Bills defense playing prevent defense.....down multiple scores who didn't want to give up new looks so they can head to the BYE without more gametape pressed on them. I know that's not Simms fault and he did what was asked but even on that final drive, he should have been picked off by McKelvin and got away with a pass. I don't think Simms is a slam dunk and starting Simms would be simply "Starting someone just to have a different QB in command". Simms doesn't have much chemistry with the top guys, is somewhat limited athletically and it is unfair to Simms to throw him to the fire in a middle of a playoff race.
He had a rushing TD too..... 11 in-completions happens to many QBs.....it was just done in a short sample size here and that's because the Jets needed to control the time of poss. by running it on a vulnerable defense and to keep Brees on the bench so he can't expose our lousy secondary. I never said it was a great game but to say he played poorly or looked lost is a huge stretch.
Geno Smith was horrible in the Saints game. Just because our run game was great doesn't make him less of a disaster. You can use excuses like well we wanted to control the clock but the truth is if they had any faith in him he would have been throwing the ball and helping us score instead of handing it off and controlling the clock.
Geno Smith; a.k.a. Mark Sanchez v 2.0 You will have haters. And you will have blind supporters. Oh, by the way, he is turning the ball over at almost identical rate as Nacho did. Check this out: http://www.newsday.com/sports/footb...9/smith-v-sanchez-re-jets-turnovers-1.6455067 What else is new in Jetland?
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 2m 2013 Geno: 16 INT, 4 fumbles; 2009 Sanchez thru 10 games: 16 INT, 3 fumbles #nyj that's pretty eery
How is the Saints game horrible? Week 2 vs the Pats or the Bengals or yesterday's game is horrible. The Saints game was okay/alright. Didn't help us, didn't hurt us. He just had to make a few plays and had to get the Saints defense to not stack up against the run. The Saints Run D stinks while their pass D is not that bad. It would have been awful offensive coordinating if we threw it at the Saints and Marty would have deserved heavy criticism for doing so.
his 8 completions traveled 7 yards in the air - that is not going to make a defense think they need to respect anything off the line of scrimmage. he failed to complete back to back passes against buffalo. You are just asking teams to put 8 guys in the box and say try to hit your first target rookie.
In what world is a QB throwing for 119 yards with a 42% completion not hurting the team. With the way we were running the ball he should have been able to do better than that. Im not saying we should have gone to him more that would be dumb seeing as how he was playing. I'm saying he should have been able to do more with the plays he was given.
they arrived at those #s very differently. mark's came in bunches w/ 12 of his INts coming in 3 games, he played pretty well the other 7 games. W/ Geno he has been consistently turning it over only not turning it over in 2 of the 10 games. Mark looked MUCH better through 10 games.
The question every team has to ask themselves with a QB is. "Can we win a SB With this guy under Center?" As of right now, the answer is NO. but, The answer was the same for Sanchez's rookie season... See if we can at least get to the dance and maybe Bad Geno will "Go away"
Better OLine and more consistent running game. Overall better defense too. That 09 team was more talented than this 13 team. Only thing the 13 team has on the 09 team is the pass rush and OC.
Sanchez also had the benefit of the best line and running game in football. We're expecting too much out of Geno right now and our WR's stink. If the oline isnt winning the battle up front(something they won mostly every game in 09) we're screwed.
I was going to comment on this actually. Mark threw 5 picks in one game against - yes, you guessed it - Jills. He also had 4 picks against NO [that cost the game] and 3 picks against NE. And he didn't need the BS luck calls to come from behind. Jets would have won the 5 pick game if they had that kind of luck that year.
Yea I was happier with Mark as a rookie than I am with Geno honestly. Mark's first 3 games were a better stretch than 3 games Geno has had this year with better offensive coaching. Geno under Schotty Marks rookie year would be a disaster. I'd take Braylon and Cotch over what we have going now but Mark never started the season with Braylon.
Nelson got hit for a long completion. Salas got hit for a long completion. Yeah no doubt his WRs helped with YPC but that was part of the plan set by Marty to hit those WRs to get those yards. He executed it. There was no reason to chuck it deep vs the Saints.
This guy throws the ball with no conviction. He throws the ball where he HOPES the receivers will be. He does not deliver the ball on time with confidence. His ability to throw the simple out is questionable. His passes over the middle make one cringe and expect the worst. Worst of all, he had the Sanchez, lost look on his face yesterday. I so wanted this guy to be the answer. So far I dont see it.......
