Technically the jets still control their own destiny. They play all the teams behind them. They need to beat the Ravens and dolphins. They do that 8-8 might actually be a playoff spot.

The other three games - Panthers, Raiders, and Browns

If they are going to stick with Smith he has to learn how to play QB in a hurry.

That's far from true. It is basically going to come down to us vs Baltimore at the end of the season with since the Titans do not have Locker. The Chargers still have KC x2 and Denver. And we play the Fish twice. If we win against Baltimore, it will most likely knock them out of the playoffs. If we lose, we will be tied and they will have the tie breaker h2h. They have a very, very tough schedule at the end of the season. @ Detroit, New England, and then @ Cinci.

I don't think it is over, when we get to the 8th loss it will be over.

I see at least 3 more loses this season. Ravens, Miami (once), and Panthers.

If all 3 teams finish 8-8 we will not make the playoffs. Miami finishes with an 8-8 record, they will have the tiebreaker, if the Ravens finish 8-8 they will have the tie-breaker.

We are asking the Jets to do something that they haven't done all season. I hate being a debbie downer, I'm normally not like this - but my faith has been shattered.

Tebow only completed 2, 9 and 9 passes in a 3 week span in 2011

So even Tebow can complete more passes than Geno. At least Tebow could run for some yards...Geno just throws the ball to the other team or drops it.

I don't think there's anyone on the OL bench who is likely to play better than those guys.

On the other hand I have no reason to think Simms would play worse than Smith right now. I am not saying I am certain he would play better, either. But I do see some upside potential, and the Jets to my thinking have little reason not to see what Simms could do with a week's practice with the starters.

    1TD -- don't forget the 9TO, 51% compl, and some amazing QBR numbers like 4, 7, 6, and .7

I agree he was a luxury but disagree that he it was with the belief that he could beat out Sanchez. I take the FO at their word that he was drafted to provide competition. They were hedging their bets. Whether he beat out Sanchez was irrelevant as long as the competition yielded the best QB on the roster as our starter.

The hope you speak of was really with the fans not the FO again he was just a 2nd round value pick. John Idzik's fate is not tied to Geno just like Tanny's faith was not tied to Kellen Clemens. Most of what you've written about Geno, is on the money is on point except for the part that he doesn't trust his WRs. I would argue he trusts them too much. He's got burnt with INTs several times because the WRs did not compete for the ball to at least cause an incompletion. At the moment our WRs, Geno's timing and ball placement are not good enough for him to throw the ball even in one on one coverage. That said, it doesn't mean he can't or won't get better at those things in the by the end of the year, next year or beyond.

Why wait to see if Geno screws up in Baltimore???? We are still in the drivers seat for this playoff spot.. Simms showed enough on that touchdown drive for me... Put him in for the rest of the season and lets hope for the best.

I agree that Geno should not have started this season, it's definitely a mistake.

There is a difference between a bad game and a truly lost game. Geno has looked lost since the Bengals game. Put ANY kind of pressure on him, and it is lights out. I think the final 6 opponents have to understand this by now.

What I don't understand, is why after he throws a pick is he going onto the bench and sulking?? Its Sanchez 2.0... Get your ass on the bench and go over the plays with your OC.... Every time Andrew Luck throws a pick he runs onto the sideline to see what he did wrong...

Geno's excuse is "my receiver wasn't where I should have been"....

    SMH.. Guys attitude sucks.

Geno has 20 turnovers...very few of those were a bad route or a receiver not fighting for the ball. The WCO should feature a slant play - Geno can't throw in between the numbers so the slant is out, Geno can't throw a crossing route 10 yards from the line of scrimmage because he can't account for a safety and has tunnel vision, he can't throw an out because he has poor timing, the only thing he can do now and again is throw a ball 20+ yard on a deep cross. So the only thing he can do require a lot of time..he does nothing to scare a defense into slowing down their rush or bringing extra. bring 5+ guys and get to him because he will panic on short throws. If Idzik isn't so tied to Geno how can he still be named the starter after the last 5 weeks?

In 8 of the 10 games played Geno has 1 TD pass or less. In 5 of those he has NONE.

That is the definition of totally lost and needs to be benched. He's beyond awful and if the coaching staff doesn't do something about it now they risk losing the locker room and their jobs.

For the life of me I don't understand how they can stand by him at this stage. Geno's head is gone and its not coming back again this year.

I'd start anyone right now over him.

I'm actually not a big Geno fan, but your over the top attack on him is making me, who has been very critical of him, come across as one those Geno-can-do-no-wrong posters. At the end of the day, he is a rookie playing with not a lot of talent. To act as though the book is already written on him is as extreme as those Suckchez, Buttfumble...etc...blah...blah posters.

Am i saying the book is written? No. Has the book been started? Yes. Right now at this point in his rookie season he has taken large steps backwards compared to his first 5 games. He is making the same - if not worse mistakes. He threw the same interception twice yesterday. He didn't even learn from one interception to the next to look for a safety sitting on a shallow cross.

The talent - Ivory, Powell, Holmes, Hill, Nelson, Cumberland, and Winslow -- that isn't garbage talent and they are good enough to make some plays with an even average QB.

Using phrases like "he can't..." expresses a pretty definitive point. A player may struggle with certain aspects of their game but they either can or can't do certain things. I know Geno can throw between the numbers, can throw crossing routes, can throw outs.

you prefer - he didn't , he couldn't, he failed to?

Use any of them because the all fit.

Can he make the throws - he did make some in the first 5 games but in the last 5 games he has no made those throws and seems more and more like a deer in headlights.
