No, geno was not ready to play but was forced into action after mark got hurt. They have a lot more invested in geno to play him through the growing pains and Simms isn't ready to play(please don't discuss the garbage time drives yesterday).

Can someone tell if when was the last time a QB has completed 8 passes or less two weeks in a row in the NFL?

Sure you can blame the line the WR whatever but in reality it was Geno. He looked horrible when he had time and worse when he did not. He has played OK at times this year with some masterful game plans by MM. The DC around the league have caught on Geno has some huge flaws and now they are on tape he needs time to fix them.

Geno stands tall in the pocket but he has no pocket presence. He does not move in the pocket well. Geno can only throw from the shotgun which limits our run game. When he is under center we are running the ball. Inclement weather he just can't play in bad weather so it seems and that is not good for a NY QB in Nov and Dec.

When do you sit Geno? You sit Geno this week if nothing else there is not a lot of Simms on tape. At the very least Simms gets reps and if Geno sucks on the first couple of drives you replace him.

If you do not you are giving up on the season.

I agree. Geno was very bad yesterday but he wasn't the only one. There was poor play by the Jets all over the field and anyone who doesn't think the Jets coaching staff wasn't severely outcoached by the Bills staff with a team of equal to less over all talent isn't being real. The Bills were ready for us yesterday and we were clearly not ready for them.

Their rookie QB with scrubs at WR looked awful good by design.

His garbage time drives came one series after Smith turned the ball over for the 4th time. The Bills didn't pull their starters and say ok garbage time.

The have nothing invested in Smith. They have as much invested in Smith as they do in Vlad and Hill.

They have a ton more invested in Dee as the 9th pick and he has been benched twice this season because his play has hurt the team. For some reason Geno as a 2nd round pick, whose play is killing the team, gets a pass. I don't get it.

Geno was drafted to be our long term solution at QB, they will give him every chance to prove he is not. it is maddening watching him play but it doesn't mean he wasn't get better.

If he plays awful the next 2 weeks. I figure that Geno should get at least another home game.

I thought that despite not having good stats that Smith's performance in the NO game was something of a step forward since at least he did not turn the ball over. I knew it was only one game, but it did contain a basis for hope, that he would not go back to turnovers.

That went out the window yesterday.

In hindsight he has not done anything showing improvement since the Atlanta game. Worse than that Buffalo has shown everyone else the way to play Smith is to load up the box. Smith so far has not shown he can beat that with touch screen passes. The couple of times he threw it fifteen yards downfield over the middle he made Byrd look like the greatest safety to ever play the game. His one nice completion was to Holmes, but Holmes had his man clearly beat when Smith threw the ball.

So, on balance we see Smith with poor pocket awareness, lack of touch on short passes, telegraphing his throws with his eyes, losing track of safeties, and still fumbling the ball (four times) way too often. He is not getting better.

I think he needs to sit and let's see what Simms can do with a week's preparation. I doubt that happens, at least this week, but I do not have confidence in Smith at this point.

If its not windy, Geno should be the starter, if there is a wind above 5 mph you can bet its gonna be an ugly game for him

I do not think the Jet CS did a great job, but it's not the fault of the coaches when Smith threw a pick six on a touch pass, or lost track of Byrd, twice, over the middle. Those are just some examples of poor execution.

I also remember that Sanchez defenders constantly blamed his shortcomings on the OC. Of course Schotty was not a great OC, and Sparano was a really bad one. But did that mean Sanchez was free of blame?

    No.

I think one can isolate problems with Smith that do not have any clear connection to coaching issues.

Poor execution after a bye. Geno didn't take a week off without the coaches permission.

New O, QB competition and injured. Why wouldn't you use the bye to have the O walk through the issues we see every week. What's your excuse for Colon, D'Brick, Winters and Mangold's poor execution?

On one level you are correct to point out that apparent disparity between Milliner and Smith. But some would argue that even Milliner is getting more playing time than his performance would indicate. Still, your point there is somewhat valid.

But where it loses steam is that the Jets have to have someone play Qb. Sanchez is out, and imo will not be back. Garrard is back on the team, but I would imagine he's still pretty fragile. And of course the Jets got him and not some other and higher quality Qb because, the excuse went, they did not have much other money available, and a lack of talented alternatives in the first place.

Apparently Simms outplayed McElroy in pre-season, but imo it was more my recollection that McElroy had limited time to show he belonged compared to Simms due to injury. Was it the right move to cut McElroy? I don't know. but the Jets thought Simms was the guy to keep.

So that is where the Jets are today as far as teh Qb position is concerned. In effect they have to either play Smith or Simms.

I do agree with you that they do not have all that much invested in Smith. His defenders overrate that factor. But that's not really the main reason they are playing him.

Geno was a luxury that happened to be there at 39. He was drafted with the belief that he could beat out Sanchez for the starting job in camp. He failed to do that.

He was drafted at best to be a hope...they hoped he could do things. He isn't as mobile as people would like, he has poor pocket awareness - backsup instead of steps up too much, pats the ball all day, doesn't see the field well, is not good with timing, doesn't trust receivers, makes too many bone headed mistakes, doesn't read through his progression, and the deep ball has vanished from his game since week 3. When was the last deep ball even attempted? Not a 20 yard crossing pattern..a 40 yard go route.

Ftr I am not saying that Rex did a great job managing the bye. He clearly did not. But on balance i do not tend to excuse players for poor execution, and blame the coaches exclusively.

There was poor execution all over the field on both sides of the field. Geno sucked yesterday but nobody is talking about benching D'Brick, Mangold, Colon and Winters.

Regardless of how Geno plays Sanchez is not the answer either.

Rookie season aside, he's constantly making huge mistakes. I'm sorry, but what was the point in a QB competition when both QBs are essentially the same?

I think it's clear that our franchise QB isn't on the roster.

It maybe time to see what he has to offer, especially if Geno plays awful against the Ravens. The QB from the Raiders wasn't ready, but he had a decent game and led his team to a W.

Coming into the draft, I knew Geno Smith wasn't ready to be a starter, he showed flashes of being a decent QB, but his inexperience is really starting to effect the entire team.

I think if he has another stinker in Baltimore Simms may get a chance against Miami.

If we lose against the Ravens, the season is over anyway. Technically IMO it's over now because of our conference record. It's a POS.

Anyone upset with Geno does not understand football. I didn't want him drafted by the Jets, but when he was, I said fine let him sit on the bench for a year or two. Throwing him into the fire (Due to Rex's mistake that should get him fired of allowing Mark to get injured) was never going to work. Geno has looked bad pretty much every week but Atlanta. Not his fault though. Nothing Geno has done has shocked or upset me, but it makes me furious with Rex and Idzik for not giving the team a better option.
