That's because teams know the only way Geno can hurt them passing IS with the deep ball (see the first Buffalo game). Force him to throw 10-15 yard patterns and he implodes.
Exactly and that is why you need to say -- hmm maybe we need to make a change because if teams are going to stack the line and stop the run and geno can't throw the ball to soften the defense -- what do you expect to do? They need a spark plain and simple.
I get it, you don't like him. There are more problems then just him. Geno didn't give up two long TD passes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
No he didn't but turning the ball over 4 times, being unable to throw anything, not being able to run because you can't throw anything. It brings the entire team down. Is he the only issue no -- is he by far the biggest and most glaring issue over the last 5 weeks? YES. Is he an issue you can replace and see what happens more than anyone else? YES
With who? If he's not the answer you will see it when he plays Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I will say this i was a big Geno supporter but he starts to get to me, Im not sure he is the answer at all. Im ok in drafting a QB next Draft just not in the first round. And no Tajh Boyd.
HOUR nineteen 72 HOUR rule in effect a special time to allow the FIRE EVERYBODY, SKY IS FALLING crowd to enjoy their ranting, raving and thread starting why? HORRORS the Jets lost a football game...a world ending event
This is 5 straight weeks of Geno regressing...way more than 72 hours of evidence, reflection, and opinion. All season the mantra around the Jets - competition! Now rex decides to come out after a 5th straight bad game and says Geno is the starter? Geno wasn't given that nod after the first Bills game where he tossed for 300 yards or after the Atlanta game...but now he gets it?
5 straight weeks?? including the weeks in which the Jets beat two division leaders (Patriots and Saints) seriously... what games have you been watching?
he did nothing against NO and had moments against NE but w/ the game on the line we ran it. he's been good at times but coming off a bye w/ 3 key guys coming back against a mediocre team we should have seen a much better showing. I just wish we never inserted Mark into that damn NYG preseason game.
Here's a question for the group: At what point this season do you bench Geno if his play doesn't improve markedly? When do you send the unmistakable message that turnovers aren't acceptable and there will be consequences?
In the last 5 weeks what has he really done? Against the Saints and Pats they had what 400 yards rushing? Against the Saints he completed 8 passes that traveled less than 7 yards in the air. In his last 5 he has 1TD pass and 9 turnovers. He hasn't hate a QB Rating over 80. His QBR is awful - none over 40 - 4 under 14, 3 in single digits, and 1 at .7. So yes since the Atlanta game he has been a sub par to awful QB.
I think if he continues to play at the level he has played at recently you sit him down for awhile. Nothing is gained by beating him into the ground while he is failing on the field. That said, the barrel he is rolling in right now has jagged nails all over the inside of it. The Jets receivers have been catastrophic this season in terms of injuries, suspensions and performance. No sooner does Geno begin to develop some consistency with a receiver than BAM he's missing games. The offensive line is also doing a subpar job under pressure. When teams don't blitz the pass protection is ok but as soon as extra rushers are coming things fall apart.
The reason to bring up Sanchez is to say if you bench him for reasons XYZ why would leave in smith is he is doing the same things and on top of the mistakes he isn't making any positive plays to counteract them. It's not like he us turning the ball over but making plays and just failing in the red zone. He turns the ball over inside his own 30 time and time and time again. if this was Sanchez out there people wouldn't be calling for the backup to get a chance? Why is Geno looked at as a savior or the future? At this point he is looking more like a liability than anything else.
The Jets running game is nowhere near as good as it was in 2009. The only thing that kept Sanchez from spiraling out of control that year was that the Jets had the best rushing attack in the NFL and they began to lean on it heavily. Geno is going to spiral out of control soon if the Jets can't find a way to relieve the pressure. Not saying he is good but no rookie QB would be doing well in this environment at this point.
Do they have a starter that is ready to play? Sanchez has what 12 college starts? Smith had 3 season of college ball? What made them more prepared to start an NFL game than Simms? Simms has also been able to sit on the bench and learn for the last 11 weeks. That is where Smith should have been all season. Simms came in and move the chains. He completed passes, he put points on the board, and seemed to spark the offense a bit. At least the kid had some emotion and fire.
