That's the same excuse why Rex wouldn't go away from Sanchez last year. But Rex isn't as attached to Geno as he was to Sanchez...this is coming from Idzik. HE wants to see Geno play it out.

Someone needs to figure out why this team consistently looks lost after both a big win the previous week or after the bye. How can we the fans be fired up yet the team looks like they're just going through the motions.
I hate to admit it but he's worse than Sanchez and that's saying a lot. Like Mark, Geno is unable to move the ball consistently plus he fumbles and throws picks. The Jets have a chance to make the playoffs this season but not with this kind of play at the Qb position. They're not good enough to consistently dig themselves out of these kind of holes. Now we know why the Jets coaching staff and org has from the beginning refused to name Geno the starter. And even when Mark was mediocre in training camp leaned toward him as their 2013 starter. Hard to say we'd be 5-5 with Mark but when the Jets ran a ground and pound Mark was a lot more efficient than this. You can't continue to reward Geno with starts after terrible games like this (his 10 Qbr for today's game is the worst in the NFL so far this season). If it was me I'd start Garrard against the Ravens. I hope I'm wrong and Geno has a good game but after the past few games he's regressed. Even in the Saints game his passing was very mediocre and Marty tried to stay away from it. And why all of those sideline patterns. It didn't work.
Inconsistent preparation. When we lose our coaches are crossing their T's and dotting their I's. But when we come off a win, we celebrate as if we won a Superbowl and come back lackadaisical.
As for Simms he was basically facing a 3 man front. But even he was erratic at least on that one pass into the end zone that was right to the defender and should have been picked off. But it would be interesting to see how he would do if given a start. I'd have no problem with it. Look at Matt McGloin today. He played well and won a game and was a lot more consistent than Pryor has been as a Qb.
There's some pretty good Qbs coming out in 2014 and not all of them are going to be high first round picks. Guys like Keith Price at Washington. I am not 100% in favor of drafting one this year. And haven't given up on Geno but I think for now he should be benched. You have to learn a lesson (that was never installed with Mark): if you turn the ball over you do not play. Maybe being benched will be a better way of teaching him that. Like Mark he's throwing balls right at defenders which means he doesn't know what the hell he's doing. This isn't the JV team it's the big leagues. It's not a developmental league it's the real thing. As for Manzell he's a pretty wild kid on and off the field. Sonny Werblin would love him because he has that kind of star appeal just like Joe Willie. If available I'd draft him because from what I've seen he's the best Qb in NCAAF even better than Bridgewater. As for the Jets if I can't get Manzell I'd instead sign a decent veteran FA. Or if a guy like Price falls get him.
Let's put some talented guys around him, and give him a full off-season as the starting QB before we give up on Geno.
I think Kerley's contribution to Geno and the offense has been overlooked. From everything we see, he has reliable hands, run routes crisply, and can beat single coverage in the slot for 1st downs. I think for whoever we start, he's one of our most valuable offensive players. He provides a reliable safety blanket. Also, Hill has a been a severe disappointment still. Feels like he forgets he's so big and can just body out smaller DBs.
Holmes, Hill, Nelson, Winslow, Cumberland, Ivory, Powell --you think a different roster is going to fix his lack of pocket awareness, his patting the ball, his slow decision making, his inability to read defense, his inability to look beyond his first receiver? I don't care who you have out there -- talent on this roster is good enough for a QB to be successful.
I think Hill is invisible because Smith doesn't look his way at all - if you aren't the primary in a pattern Smith isn't getting the ball to you. Simms had Hill for a TD at the end of the game but the ball was knocked down. I think receivers lose interest knowing the ball isn't coming their way and that the QB just can't make plays.
I think they'll wind up doing just that, its gonna be do or die for Smith and the coaching staff (not Idzik though, he's got a scapegoat)
I think our skill position players were ok esp considering the state of injuries around the NFL. If there was any fault it has to go to the OL today. But still Geno has to make plays and be able to handle a strong pass rush. And he has the legs for it. Right now like last season the Qb position is really hurting this team. Could Garrard be an efficient game manager like he used to be. You really don't need a top Qb to win games. Just not a bottom one.
Take a better look at that list of names. Holmes is the most talented guy on that list, by far, and he's a fringe pro-bowler, at best. Geno's played 9 games in the NFL, and he's got a .500 record. Give him some time to develop.
.500 record because of Smith or in spite of smith? 20 turnovers -- 1 TD pass in the last 5 games...9 Turnovers....if they don't run for 150 yards smith has no chance. He seems to lack some basic NFL QB skills - working through your receivers, pocket awareness, timing....he is a cheap 2nd round pick. There is no reason to sell out the franchise for a guy on the books for 5 years and a few million. He was a 2nd round pick that failed to win the job in camp -- and failed by a long long way. He was outplayed by Sanchez and really outplayed by Simms.
