Do the Jets have a top 5 Offensive Line? NFL analysts incessantly say Jets have a top 5/superior offensive line, do you agree?
You could maybe make the case that we sneak into the top ten at OL but top 5 is a joke. I do think our unit is better than average though.
I wouldn't rank our line top 15, probably not even top 20. Geno is pressured, a lot. Then run game hasn't always been as good as the NO game. Ivory vs the Patriots had 100 yards, and 60 of them came after contact. You look at Brick and Winters on that left side, and they're both getting beat multiple times a game. Best out of the 5 is Austin Howard.
To be fair - Geno hangs onto the ball a little too much and brings the pressure on himself in many instances. I will say some of the guys on the OL are having bad years. Mangold / Ferguson, but hopefully they will step it up after this bye week. LG is the biggest weakness, but Winters in the best option. You got to roll with what you got.
I read some FBO article that said the Jets were #1 in the NFL in the 'amount of time their QB has to throw the ball' stat stating that most of Geno's sacks can be attributed to him holding onto the ball too long.
True, but as of now, I've seen DBrick on his back a couple of times already. Not just beat, but on his back laying down after the defender throws him.
Jets having a top 5 o-line would mean a lot of the sacks and pressures may be attributable to Geno holding on to the ball and not moving efficiently in the pocket. Since we are not ready to start criticizing Geno yet, so the Jets line can't be that good.
WE have a bottom 5 OL at best. Colon, Mangold and Ferguson have been graded by PFF as 3 of the worst 10 run blockers in the league this year. Ferguson has been terrible in pass protection getting beat on the edhe all game long almost every game. Winters has struggled in run blocking and pass protection. Mangold has played poorly. So has Colon. The only bright spot has been Howard. Last year we had a top 5 OL this year its bottom 5. Hopefully we can straighten it out after the break. The game against the Saints was the worst jobs of pass protection a team could have. Watch the game almost every play there was an uncovered free rusher with a straight line to the QB. Geno had 1 sec or less in most pass plays to make a decision and get rid of the ball. It was a miracle there were not multiple TOs. Our QB has been getting pounded all year. We need to fix the pass protection its the big weakness on this team. If one think the Saints game was a turn around for the run blocking. Take a closer look. Most of the yards we gained on the ground was after contact and from missed tackles. Of Ivory's 139 yards 100 was after contact. The Saints missed 12 tackles well above their average of 4 missed tackles a game. Great running by Ivory by not something we should count on.
Lol you're a dummy if you think we have a bottom 5 o line. The Saints were blitzing over and over forcing the QB to make good quick throws. What O line of 5 is regularly blocking 7. Theres a reason all the analysts are saying we have at least an above average O line.
If you watch the game you can tell that the line isn't as good as they're making it seem. Unless of course all other teams' lines are just awful and we have one of the least awful.
The line may have stepped up, but Ivory was averaging 3 yards a carry before this Saints game, and if you paid attention, it wasn't because he wasn't finding holes, he was just getting hit before the line.
I don't think where top 5. The play has looked worse at times due to the fact that Geno is a rookie and holds on to the ball a little too long. I say where top 15 as of now.
WOW from the bottom at 32 to start the year to a top 5 offense how things have changed since the beginning of the season. TOP 5 NO we are not, middle of the pack maybe a little lower yes,, Better then last year YES.. Top 5 NO
