I look forward to that day, hopefully at that point the rest of the division is jealous b/c we have Geno.
I hope you get to keep rooting for him too. Clearly means a lot to you. Maybe you could tweet him offering to help him rehab? Massages and such.
There you go back to your hypocritical inconsistent arguments depending on what QB you want to discuss. Numbers and ratings mean nothing when evaluating the QBs of today - particularly Sanchez and his peers and context means everything. You want people to take into account numerous factors in evaluating a QB. That's fair considering how complex football is . But what pisses me off is that you continually refuse to take your own advice when it comes to Namath. You want to go stictly by thr numbers and ignore those on this board who saw him play are able to provide the context you value so much in discussions about current QBs . You put down people for being simplistic , but your Namath arguments are the same as those you are criticizing in this thread. And one good playoff game against the Saints does not overcome 8 years of conservative game management risk averse QBing ( or just bad play) by Alex Smith. He has carried a team on his back once to win a game, but has failed many other times. If I had to rank QBs I would want on my team if my team were trailing in the fourth quarter, A Smith would be near the bottom of the list.
I did not want to post seriously on this topic cuz im a Alex Smith fan tbh and ive always said the 49ers fucked it up giving Kaep the Qb job that dude is all hype. Alex Smith is not a game changer i agree with you but he can make you win if you have all in place, you shouldt supose to be trailing in the 4th quarter with a mistake free qb. His ceiling is shorter then most Qbs but in his own way he is special. Lets just say if you dont have an elite QB you will do fine with Smith and by no means i think the jets should have him instead of Geno , Geno can be a gamechanger one day all im saying is if you wanna have a safe lock at Qb Alex is your guy. Here is some special video from a 49ers fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUum2i4WCwU Its 20 Min tho hope you have the patience to see its great.
First off I am not calling Alex Smith an all time great or even great so your entire point is asinine based on that. This has nothing to do w/ overrated Joe. I am not sure how many times I have to explain this to you but I factor in many things when evaluating QB play which include #s, wins, and how they play in big games/big moments. 2 playoff apps in a crappy division, 2 playoff wins and getting a "bye" they didn't deserve and hosting a game they didn't deserve to get to the SB have to be factored in. I NEVER go strictly on the #s w/ Joe but the #s and the wins are mediocre due mostly to his durability and durability counts. If he was durable he may have had a legit HOF career not based on 1 game or 1-2 seasons.
No one is saying that Geno has less upside than Alex Smith. Of course we could have drafted Geno as our QB in waiting even if we did sign Smith. There really is no way Geno Smith supporters win this argument though. Of course we would win more game with a rock steady nine year veteran (former first overall pick) who has lots of experience and keeps mistakes to a minimum over a mistake prone rookie who is still learning the ropes and for all we know will never amount to anything. Alex Smith has not even lost one game all year. That could change when the Chiefs meet the Broncos but it might not. Turnover ratio wins ball games more than any other stat. It is hard to argue that having Alex Smith start would have resulted in more turnovers or less wins than we have had so far.
Correct at the end of the day it is about turnovers especially for a team built like the Jets. Play mistake free football have a great chance to win the game. There is time in every game when a QB needs to make a play or two to win. That is what Sanchez haters forget he managed the game but in his first two seasons he made plays in the playoffs. Plays not big numbers. Geno has shown he can make plays but he has also shown he can make mistakes. Alex Smith as QB we would have a better record no doubt but who cares.
The Jets didn't have an established running attack until recently. The OL was a mess the first few weeks and our new starting power back was banged up and couldn't be relied on. When you can't run the ball and you have no real passing attack you're going to be turning the ball over on downs all day long. Plays have to be made by the QB when you have limited options. That means turnovers. So far Geno has won games and lost games. Hard to believe a formula of no mistakes when we didn't have a run game and our secondary was a mess wins games like the Chiefs or 49ers with Smith won games.
The OL was not a mess, the OL has been good most of the year and through the first few weeks Powell was among the leading rushers in the AFC.
Hypothetically if BP doesn't run Belichick out of town we have the same staff in place that drafted Brady and won 3 SBs.
Back in the Sanchez thread I thought it was put out there that you hadn't seen Namath. I apparently stand corrected......ONLY about you not having seen Namath mind you....
You never go strictly by the numbers as you once again bring up numbers as your argue against Namath, along with some mystical ability to determine how he played in certain games without seeing him. When will you accept that virtually every person who saw him play thought he was great as did his peers? That carries more weight than some internet geek poring over stats and cheapening a championship when Namath and the Jets beat two teams that lost a combined total of 3 games before losing to the Jets in the post season. The Jets did not win a SB as a 9 or 10 win team beating teams with 4-5 losses along the way like current era champs. Those are cheap championships. Denver beating Atlanta in 1998 was a cheap title. The Jets beating Oakland and Baltimore was as far from cheap as you can get. The Jets beat two teams with a combined record of 27-3. It is beyond comprehension how you can't that through your incredibly thick skull. And this in a thread when you defend Alex Smith and Mark Sanchez by demanding that other posters put context around their mediocre to bad seasons. I'm sorry, but when it comes to Namath, you are just plain ignorant. You are not even an "average fan" making an argument. You come off like a whiney little kid who can't believe something he didn't witness could be as good or better than things today.
Winner, winner chicken dinner. The OL has been pretty good. Geno has been sacked a number of times but has held the ball too long and has not always let his linemen know what he wants to do (this makes it harder to block for him). Even though our primary back, Ivory was hurt we had depth at the position and Powell stepped up. Now that Ivory is back we have our workhorse and our backup to pound the ball even better. Again, your argument is futile. Just by being more experienced and protecting the ball better Alex Smith would have given us a higher probability of winning each game and it is more than likely that with him we would have 1-2 more wins. Has Geno Smith played so well on a consistent basis that you could even hope to disagree with this logic?
you are all over the place. Every person that saw him play talks about his incredible ability not about actually performing. In that 1968 documentary on NFL network they first talk about how he derailed their 1967 season then talked about how he was screwing up the 1968 season until he conformed and these were his TEAMMATES. Great ability, not many have had the natural gifts he had but this game is about more than just gifts and he didn't play at a high level for long enough to be a true all time great. Oakland had a better record than NYJ, oak had to play another team w/ a better record than NYJ while our team sat home w/ "bye" they didn't earn. They then got oak at home when Oak had a better record and BEAT the Jets in that season. You don't se the huge advantages in that? They didn't win as a 9-10 win team, they won as an 11 win team in an incredibly weak division w/ a bye they didn't earn and homefield despite not having the 1st or 2nd best record in the AFL so you are right. I am defending mark and Alex being better than a rookie Geno Smith who was not ready to play this year. At no point did I argue either was or ever will be great. I get you have to deflect since you have such a weak argument but take a step back, take off the broadway Joe underoos and see the situation logically.
