I normally don't start threads but this is honestly one of the most absurd things I have ever seen: http://bit.ly/PWR11NFL I don't even know where to start..
We are obviously worse than the Buccaneers with their 8-1 record. We obviously didn't just beat the #2 ranked Saints. Or the #5 ranked Patriots.
The formula has to use points scored as a large part of it, I am sure. The Jets have 5 wins, but all of them were by 7 points or less. Where as the Titans blew the Jets out, Steelers won by 13 and Bengals won by 40. That is all I can think of.
Yep, looks like some formula used to calculate it. Our bad turnover/takeaway differential and points for/points again definitely would rank us as a bad team. Doesn't mean it isn't still a bad list.
have blog nobody reads. make dumbass power rankings that make no sense but gets people's attention. people read blog. mission accomplished.
Yes actually The sad part is that if this was Cimini or Mehta ... Ranking would've been about the same. As much as this jackass is a Pats homer, at least he props his own. Our beat writers meanwhile are best shitting on the team they are covering.
haha that's so true, Cimini is rarely positive about the Jets. I'm now really curious about what Francesa's Power Rankings would look like as well.
There's six teams in front of us that have no business being there. Typical pats d-rider just hating.
By Pythagorean W-L, we're we're a shade under 3-6. We've won close and lost big. Over time, that stabilizes; "clutch" isn't a real phenomenon, but a shadow produced by small sample sizes. Any mathematical formula assessing team performance should consider more than wins and losses, since process, in the long run, trumps results, in the short term. Granted, we're certainly not a bottom five team, but I take no issue with this formula; the fact that it's produced by a Boston writer shouldn't undermine its general accuracy. The Jets this year are an outlier, just like the Bucs who've lost 4 games by a field goal or less. There are far more important things to get your panties in a twist about. Let's just hope our true level of play stabilizes in the second half, because Patriots and Saints games aside, the Jets hardly looked like a playoff team. We have reason for optimism, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. If Lavonte David doesn't give that late hit, or the refs don't call a penalty on the New England push that none of us knew was illegal before the fact, we're 3-6 and wondering when Rex would be fired. The margin is razor-thin, and we've been on the right side of it every time.
GTFO with this bullshit, the same can be said for almost every team in the NFL this year, save Denver. The pats could easily be 3-6 or 2-7 even so why aren't they ranked lower? even if you disregard the Jets here, this power ranking from top to bottom is garbage, don't try to defend it.
The real question is ..why are you following a Pat's writers power rankings? Btw, I'm a Pat's fan and these might be the most retarded power rankings I have ever seen for any one week of football in my life. There's a reason I don't read PFW. Ever.
