The secondary was miles better last year so the Jets were not getting gashed by these big plays that forced Geno to have to play catch up(Ala TEN and CIN games) The front 7 have been much better admittedly but the games Geno has been poor are the games that the opposition has jumped out to early leads, take away our chance to dictate the tempo with our run and made Geno have to throw 30+ times. The front 7's success has come in flurries but games vs TEN/CIN for instance the pass rush was non existent where as for just about most if not all games, Cromartie/Landry/Bell/Wilson was as damn good of a secondary as one can have where teams did not destroy us with big plays. Geno's okay/solid/strong games(vs TB, vs BUF, vs ATL, vs NE, vs NO) have all come when the Jets strike 1st blood on the scoreboard. Pittsburgh is the lone mulligan in this. Anytime we get down by double digits in the 1st quarter like vs the Bengals or Titans, Geno's brutal games come. New England is the lone mulligan in this. What this shows is if Geno is to have any success, the defense needs to be steady and the Jets need to score 1st and not be down by two-three possessions. It is tough to expect 2nd half comebacks like vs the Pats all the time, so for Geno's sake....this team can't get off to slow starts and if anything we need to get on the board asap.
Likewise, the Jets have been the most penalized team(Though the BYE week might have helped us in that department) in the NFL and some of Geno's successful passes or plays have been brought back by holds or off. pass int(Hill's one was a pure flop by McCourty though) or other gaffs by his teammates. Sanchez did not have to deal with this. No 2nd and 20 or 3rd and long for Mark last year like what Geno has had to experience so far. Geno's feet have been much better than the damage Mark did on the ground and Geno's decision making minus one fumble vs TEN have been great when it comes to his running.
You don't have a prayer in this argument because now Junc has '09 and '12 in play and he will weeble back and forth between them in ways that you're not sure which he is talking about at any given point. Then he'll wait for inflection points where he can jump all over you using a half truth or distortion based on one of the years but applied to the other. He's a troll pure and simple. He just puts a lot more effort into it than most trolls.
We aren't on the same page here, we are comparing rookie seasons, not a 4 year vet vs a rookie. 1. Bucs, still made plays to win. A game where he had limited experience because he had an ankle injury 2. Patriots round 2, Geno still had 2 touchdowns. 3. Geno's game against the Falcons ON THE ROAD, was prob more impressive then any of Mark's rookie season games besides the Titans game. 4. Buffalo, he made some mistakes but immediately came back and throw a dime to Holmes. Ivory is more dynamic, but Jones is far more consistent. Nothing better than a consistent RB that can get you yards each and every time. Hopefully Ivory continues to play well.
Yeah and that makes this whole argument full of shit and a waste of time. Junc knew we were talking about rookie years and immediately brings up last year's trash. I give junc credit he doesn't give up, but this is a battle he has already lost. It makes me sad junc had to resort to changing the years to get a head's up on the argument.
Also our special teams last year was much better in terms of field position(Westoff did get gashed on some plays though). If I recall, Robert Malone had a steady enough year minus a few duds last season. This season Malone shit the bed in the week 2 Pats game after an okay game vs the Bucs and Quigley has been hit/miss/hit/miss/hit/miss. Folk has been money both last and this year, with this year being of epic proportions but his kickoffs have been off so far this year compared to last season. Likewise, Joe McKnight last season was a monster for us when it came to field position help. This season, our kick return game thanks to Clyde Gates(Cribbs has been a good find) has been non-existent if not lousy. McKnight's big kick return runs put the Jets offense last year in good spots to succeed. Punt return units last and this year have been non-existent but this Cribbs has been again a nice little help since coming to us. Also Vlad Duccasse....or should I say Bad Ducasse's role against Geno in the 2nd game vs the Pats cannot be excused. Geno made some silly mistakes that game but Ducasse's lousy game(I think that was the game he had 3 holds or was that vs TB?) and his mistake prone ways put the offense behind the 8 ball. Winters has had a few hiccups here or there but he has been a warm welcome to the LG position. Slauson may not have been loved at times but no doubt in my mind can one say Slauson was and is better than Ducasse.
I don't give him credit for that because I'm not here to argue and watching the littlest things blow up into big arguments because somebody thinks he's better than the guy he's arguing with is a waste of my time. Junc is Khan Noonien Singh to the average poster's James T. Kirk.
I think he will be signed by another team at minimum salary and begin an excellent David Carr career as a backup quarterback. For his own sake, it would be best if that team had a durable young QB so that a backup only gets on the field except in preseason or mop up duty
We have been playing catchup thanks to Geno TOs not the D outside of the Cincy game. Our D is much better this year than last year, don't let #s fool you. our O was so bad last year opposing O's were very conservative making our #s look much better than reality. The Ten game we allowed 38 pts, 28 of them came after or b/c of Geno Smith TOs. Ten had one TD drive that wasn't TO aided and it was later in the game w/ the game out of hand. we got down 10-0 to Ten in the first qtr b/c geno threw an INT that set up Ten w/ a 1st and 10 at our 18 for a 7-0 lead to start the game. At Cincy the D was terrible getting us into a hole. That's interesting to know- so we didn't have any penalties the previous 3 years? our STs in 2012 were the worst we have had since the pre-westhoff days. 1. he got hit OOB, I wouldn't credit him w/ that. 2. 2 TDs(1 rushing, 1 passing) and threw an INT for a TD. 3. I would agree w/ that. 4. he threw a ball up for grabs that Holmes made a great catch and run on. Let's not go too crazy. Great job giving his receiver a chance to make a play but he struggled most of that 2nd half. No, pay attention. Go back and read the posts. I have never lost in this argument, just b/c the mob is against me doesn't mean I have lost. I shred weak arguments but they get lost b/c we are a forum of mostly average fans that hated mark sanchez and are now pretending like Geno is great and the reason we are 5-4 when in reality he's been good at times but we'd be better w/ Mark.
those afraid to debate should just slink away though I do give you credit. You have learned from your mistakes of being humiliated trying to debate me so congrats on learning. those that refer to any man as "suckchez" should never watch the Jets again and really should be embarrassed to even be alive.
Our secondary is not better than last year......our secondary have been prone to the big time plays this year. The Pats had a ridiculously easy 1st drive vs the Jets that Thursday night, including a laughable blown assignment on Dobson. Our defense lucked out with the Pats being out of sync that game, where Brady and his WRs somehow matched Geno and his WRs. Geno did screw up with the turnovers though. Our secondary has dodged deep dropped/missed TDs by Thompkins(Week 2), Toon(Last week), Gronk and Dobson also each came very close to clinching it vs us. Our secondary has been that bad....we have just dodged so many bullets. Jets offense could not sustain long drives, in part due to the playcalling and Sanchez/Tebow experiment failing last year and thus the front 7 got worn down. Jets have done a bit better of a job this year in this regard. Jake Locker before his injury had absolutely no pressure put on him and was able to find guys like Justin Hunter and Nate Washington with ease down the field. The Steelers game our defense looked lousy vs Big Ben and he killed us with 1st down conversion after 1st down conversion. Geno didn't star to gaff up until we were down by 2 possessions if I recall. Were we the most penalized team at any point of the previous 3 years? Nope, in fact we did great in this department. Not for field position. We got killed on some returns admittedly that have put us down scores(Though we also had some scores because of our special teams) but our kick return and even punting units were better last year.
Our secondary isn't better but our front 7 is miles better and our D overall is much better. we didn't blow assignments last year? the Dobson play was bad but do we forget about 2012: Mike Wallace abusing us brian Hartline behind the D in OT(if a good pass by Tannehill we lose that game) the 83 yd pass to Vereen before the buttfumble the 94 yd Chris Johnson TD no one has ever dropped a pass against our D before this year? stop the worn down excuse, the D was being toyed w/ by opposing offenses last year. when they needed to score they scored. but the first 4 TDs by Ten all came after Geno TOs. The D wasn't great against Pitt but 2 RZ TOs didn't help. that was a team loss. we have had a ton of penalities but it is skewed a bit by the 20 penalty game. our STs sucked last year, we had a couple of nice returns top make the overall #s look better but the STs as a whole were disastrous in 2012.
This is a silly argument to the max...but the Mike Wallace TD last year was not a blown assignment. Cromartie turned the wrong way. A blown assignment would mean he was standing wide open in the EZ.
