Our receivers were shut down the entire game. Our run game was.. well there was no run game. Our RBs aren't Jamal Charles who are effective in the pass game. I don't see how Alex Smith wins that game.. I don't see how Geno won that game.
Is Smith good enough to hit those deep balls that Geno hit in that game? He might of won some other way, but Geno exposed their weakness, and he delivered. Then again, we did have a decent run game that game. All in all, if Smith had to make those throws Geno made in Buffalo, I don't think we win it.
Geno's TOs and bad sacks kept TB in the game. W/ decent QB play we easily win. Alex has done that in the past, why couldn't he? Alex Smith has 4 TOs Geno has 16 TOs The only place this is being debated is on a Jets board. Nowhere else would anyone say the Jets RIGHT NOW(the future may be different( wouldn't be significantly better w/ Alex(or Mark or any decent vet).
I agree with most of what you said throughout this thread. Geno has been more of a liability then an asset so far this season with all those turnovers. With Alex Smith I think we would be 7-2 right now.
I don't want my comments to make it seem like I don't like Geno b/c I do. I don't think he was ready and he was forced into action. he's been brutal at times and very good at times like we should have expected. recently his receivers have been decimated w/ injuries too but clearly we'd be better now w/ a vet QB.
I haven't seen many of Alex Smiths games, but one thing I do know is that he is not a QB to throw the deep ball. Against the Jets last year he missed Manningham wide open like 3 times. By no means am I saying that Geno is better than Alex right now.. What I'm saying is that if he was put in the situations that Geno was on, I don't think that he could make the plays. If we start the game from scratch, then yeah maybe Alex Smith could of beat the Bills some other way, but I don't think that he targets that corner the way Geno did.
Alex Smith is doing virtually nothing. He is completing about 1% more of his passes then Geno and his Y/A is almost a yard and a half lower then Geno's. He has a good running game. I'm not convinced that Geno Smith running the KC O with a full training camp wouldn't be doing just as well. Alex Smith is doing a very good job running the ball I think Geno could do that as well.
and Geno hasn't missed anyone? do we not remember the wide open Stephen Hill vs. Pitt? It's hard to win in this league even against an easy sched. I don't care what the #s say, I just want to win and we'd be winning more w/ Alex.
This is a pretty stupid discussion if you ask me. We couldnt have "signed" Alex Smith. He wasnt a FA. He was traded for, and the Chiefs had to give up two 2nd round picks (I believe it was a conditional 3rd that moves up to a 2nd if they win a certain number of games- Im pretty sure they already passed that number). So this is more like, should we have traded for Alex Smith and given up a couple high picks for a QB that isnt a franchise QB and cant be a focal point of the offense? Or might as well say "hypothetically, what if we signed Aaron Rodgers"...
Just like we'd be winning more games with Mark Sanchez. This is all hypothetical (and the basis of it wasnt even an option to begin with- "signing" Alex Smith). Jamaal Charles has literally saved Alex Smith's life. I think something like 40% of his targets are to Charles. We dont have Jamaal Charles. Not even close. No one knows what would happen, so definitive statements are pointless and hold no value.
Right. Probably being the key word. You have no clue Junc. No one does. Lets go join Dave Damesheck in the NifL.
It really comes down to your personal opinion of how Alex Smith plays the QB position and then how strong you think the Jets team actually is. Alex Smith has started 15 or more games in 2 out of his 7 seasons in the NFL (this year being his 8th). He has routinely kept his turnovers down in the NFL after his first year, but he has never thrown over 20 TDs in either full year or partial year he played. He does a good job not affecting the team in a disastrous way, but he also doesn't really impact a team in a very positive way. The KC defense has scored 6 defensive TDs, to the Jets 1. Recovered 11 fumbles to the Jets 2. Picked off 12 passes to the Jets 5. No opponent has scored over 20 points against KC and they have played one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. I give them all the credit in the world for playing well and being undefeated heading into the bye, but Alex Smith isn't one of my top reasons why they are playing so well. Me personally, I don't think this team is strong enough or consistent enough to prop up Alex Smith to get to 7 wins. While Alex Smith doesn't turn the ball over as much as Geno, he also goes games without scoring, which in the close nature of the Jets wins, we sorely needed in our wins. The Chiefs have only been down one time in a 4th quarter this year, partly because of Smith, partly not because of him. So it would be interesting to see how he would respond to us needing a late drive. I'm not sure he could handle the revolving door of WRs and change in RBs and I think we would be right at 5-4 maybe 6-3. Give me a QB like Rodgers, Brees, etc, I could buy 7-2 much easier.
Yeah if you could tell me what Mark Sanchez we were getting this season, you would have the lotto about 100 times by now. Nobody knew what to expect from him, and if we go off the preseason we still see the mental mistakes still affecting him. It's silly predicting him, because even in his better years, you never knew what Sanchez you were getting. It's what made him so exciting yet so frustrating to watch in his 4 years with the Jets. For or for worse you were getting a QB that looked like he could be a top QB in the league, or you got a QB who looked like he didn't belong in the NFL from game to game and even drive to drive
With Geno teams would fear their offense. It would have that air-raid image to it like Denver. Right now they have a defensive image to them. And they would certainly be undefeated but they'd put up a lot of points and quick. Andy Reed always loved his one or two bombs per game when he was in philly with mcnabb. And I've a feeling the Chiefs might still pick a QB high if the chance arises like the 9ers did.
How do you know Mark doesnt play as poorly as the 2012 season? He flashed some of the same dumbass mistakes in the preseason. Our talent level on offense is horrible, on a very similar level as last years. There is no way Mark makes the plays Geno has made with his feet, and they have been critical in some of our wins. The fact that we may win one more game with a QB who has 4 more years of experience is pretty telling. This "argument" has no end; it is pointless. There is no basis for any statement on either side. Think what you want Junc.
You're a delusional whiny. Alex Smith can't survive in a system without great weapons. You can't succeed as a game manager on a team with very limited weapon which is the Jets situation right now. The 9ers were mediocre for a long time with Alex. The Jets are NOT with Geno in his first year and barely had a full off season as the starter.
