I think this is the main point in the overall discussion. If the Jets think Geno is going to be really good then they don't take another QB but if they're still in the question then they take a QB if the BPA on their pick is a QB.

Fans aren't the only people who should be rooting for the laundry.

I believe that if Geno is the guy in the eyes of the brass, then you still draft a QB in the mid-late rounds. Next year, and every year after.

You never can have enough quarterbacks, and you never know when you'll fall into a late round gem.

It's an easy call to take a QB at some point next year with 11+ picks on tap. It's harder to make that pick in a 7 pick draft unless you really need a QB. Lots of guards and runningbacks taken in the later stages of the draft turn out to be good, not so many QB's.

I guess that's the crux of the matter. With 11 picks, you're not getting a potential franchise guy with the last 9 of them- and I'm not saying that's what we're looking for. Geno has surely showed a lot this year, much more than I thought he would and he's right on the cusp of making this an easy decision for the FO next year. If he continues at about this pace, they aren't looking at a QB in rounds 1-2 next year which is when all of these really good QBs are going to go. I count about 6 of them IMHO. If he continues to do what he's doing, there's no reason to look. If he falls off or weather effects him, then they have to think about it.

With Holmes and Winslow coming back we will see if Geno can make things happen. Those two coming back instantly makes Hill better and Nelson will have to step up.

Now that D-coordinators have tape on Geno his jobs becomes harder lets see what he can do.

If not Garrard I can't think of too many decent vet QB's that's gonna be available next year. I do feel like the Jets need at least one year with a decent vet to mentor Geno.

Thank you. And ftr I agree it is close to likely the Jets will take a Qb if one is available, as it looks like one well might be. I would vote for that unless Smith really jacks up his game AND we get to see some proof that Simms would be a good backup.

Very good post. I totally agree, and disagree with Falco. The Jets are just coming off a piss poor way of handling Sanchez by being way too deferential to him, and hoping he would go to the next level. Having no real competition certainly did not help Sanchez get better, to say the least. The Jets should not repeat that mistake.

Unless as you say Smith really steps it up. Which would be most excellent.

I would just state that we have far bigger needs than quarterback. We need a top flight safety and wide receiver. Get Geno some weapons and a QB for the secondary.

That said, Idzik takes a BPA approach. Could be fascinating when we are on the clock.

The Bill Walsh school of thought is take a QB every year! One will stick as a franchise QB eventually. The guy does not have to be a high pick. Look at Brady. Llook at Warren Moon and Kurt Warner. Its no slight on any QB to keep looking at talent! Its a team game and if a franchise QB steps up out of the blue everyone wins! II happen to be of the opinion that the future is very much in the hands of a very talented guy named GENO!

I would just add here a subject discussed more on the Simms thread, which relates to the upcoming draft and the qb position.

Even if Smith ends the year with an improving performance and what should be a relatlively firm grasp on the starting Qb slot, what if Simms has not gotten on the field enough by then to give the team a good feel for him? This is one of the reason I would like to see him play some.

This could be another consideration in drafting.

The toughest thing weighing on Geno is that next years draft is loaded with interesting prospects at QB.

Then he'd just get traded and start somewhere with better wide receivers.

Yeah because you know, maybe he's good and maybe he isn't. 9 isn't enough to know but 16 is. (4 more posts to go.)

This, while the next qb struggles just like Geno because of the lack of talent out wide

Lol, why should we "trust" you Mrs. Smith?

Because you love your son unconditionally?

We all love our sons. There is no reason to be delusional and hate on Andrew Luck. You sound like a drunken old grandma doting on her grandson.

    Stop embarrassing your son.

    He's good.

He's not Andrew Luck you drunken lunatic.

I'm pretty sold on Geno but if we have a shot at a blue chip prospect I say you have to go for it.
Bring them in and let them fight it out in camp, you can never have enough good QB's in todays NFL.

I know this is easier said then done $ wise and all but I don't want to blow a shot at a good prospect.

The guy not on the team is always better.
