I am among the belief that we will finish 10-6. we will make the playoffs only to be eliminated in the first round. that would put us around pick 20. in the offseason, Rex Ryan is extended for 3 years. Muhammad Wilkerson is also extended for 4yr/28mil. we also go and sign a free agent safety in T.J. Ward for 4yr/20mil. and to get more secondary help, we also sign Brandon Browner to a 3yr/15 mil deal. Santonio Holmes and Mark Sanchez are gone. Antonio Cromartie is dealt to the Detroit Lions for a 2014 3rd round pick and a 2015 5th round pick. 01: Kyle Van Noy (OLB, BYU) - my favorite defensive prospect coming out of the draft. reminds me a lot of Von Miller, and with us picking later on in the round I think he'll be the BPA. I love the way he plays, in on every play and creates turnovers. he would thrive in a Rex Ryan defense, paired with Quinton Coples and our DLine we should be among the league leaders in sacks. 02: Melvin Gordon (RB, Wisconsin) - I think we need to add another RB, and Melvin Gordon has been explosive this season. he's averaging just about 10 yards a carry this year. Ivory would be an excellent compliment to him. I believe MG could do great things in our offense. 03: David Yankey (G, Stanford) - left guard has been a nightmare for us this season. Ducasse not living up to his potential and Winters also hasn't been playing well. I think we go OLine with one of our 3 third round picks. Yankey is a big guard and excels in run blocking and pass protection. 03: Cody Hoffman (WR, BYU) - we add another BYU product and a huge target for Geno Smith. Hoffman isn't the fastest guy but he gets open. he's one of the best receivers in this draft class. 03: Deshazor Everett (CB, Texas A&M) - with Cromartie gone, we aim for a more physical secondary. we signed Browner, and Milliner as of right now is a question mark. so I think we would have to get another CB just in case. Everett is a very physical corner, who could also play safety for us. 04: C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE, Iowa) - TE is a glaring issue for us, but not as big as some of our other holes. Cumberland will most likely be back. I don't see Winslow returning, so we go and draft a TE in Fiedorowicz. CJ is a great blocker and has been working on his receiving ability this year. he would be a great tool for Geno's development especially in the redzone with his 6'7 size. 05: Michael Sam (OLB, Missouri) - Sam has been a breakout for Mizzou. 6 sacks on the year, he's a force to be reckoned with. he wouldn't start for us, but he's great to plug in on third down. Rex will sink his teeth into this kid and he will be a star. 06: Morgan Moses (OT, Virginia) - OLine depth. Howard has been playing good enough to keep his job and Brick isn't going anywhere. Moses is a depth move, nothing more. 07: Andrew Miller (C, Virginia Tech) - more OLine depth. Miller has been pretty solid, but will need to add weight. thoughts?
I like it.. Really like the first two picks, but don't know much about any of the others. I hope we sign a guard in FA though.
We wouldn't be able to get a 5th round pick in 2015 for Cromartie with his play this year and his contract, never mind a third and a fifth. EDIT: That being said, I'll assume we don't get the 3rd round pick so we don't take Everett. TJ Ward is a great underrated safety, but I think we need a FS far more than a SS. Browner wouldn't be a bad signing even if we keep Cro, 'cause Cro won't be around for long even if he is around for next year. Love Van Noy. He's a playmaker. Love Yankey and Gordon. Ditto to Fiedorowicz. I have Miller in my mock as well. Not a huge fan of the Hoffman pick. Our WRs will be big enough with Hill, Cumberland, and now Fiedorowicz. Geno's problem isn't being accurate, so being huge isn't a big concern like it may have been with Mark. We need someone explosive. Geno can throw a tight accurate dart- so we need somebody who can take that dart and make some plays with the football. I don't think Hoffman fits the bill there. Good mock.
The thing is with Hoffman he is probably best receiver available at that time. I think all the big ones (Evans, Watkins, Lee, Matthews and Coleman) are all gone by our pick in the second round.
Am i missing something? Why would Big Mo only be getting 4 yrs 28? Hes gonna be looking to get Geno Atkins/calais campbell money
Not a fan of drafting a RB in the 2nd round. I would much rather take a Jordan Matthews (WR) with our 2nd rounder. We can grab a RB later in the draft. We have Powell, Goodson and Ivory - I think those 3 are good enough going forward. We need reliable targets for the quarterback. You mention we are cutting Holmes, who is going to replace him? I'm not a fan of the FA WRs.
i agree with 101, the biggest holes are in the passing game and we don't address that until round 4? without seeing how you have the first 2 rounds play out i won't criticize too much but if there is a higher rated wr available in either round that shoud be the pick
Finally someone other than myself is giving up some love for Sam...that kid just has the "it" factor. He plays the OLB/DE position mean. The kid reminds me of Justin Houston.
I would love it if we drafted Gordon; big, tall runner. I think he would fit perfectly in the system along with Powell and Ivory.
Pretty sure Wilk will be willing to take less because he is a hometown kid.. But I say make him the highest paid D-Lineman in the league.. Kid deserves it.
Yea maybe but 7 mil a year? I dont see that, hes too good to accept that imo. Hes going to get all kinds of accolades this offseason and is getting national recognition. But by all means I hope he takes that kind of discount that would help the Jets out tremendously, but I dont see it. My guess is 5 yrs 50ish
