Not really, they just weren't passing. The pass throws that were called were mostly designed screens with one option or a throw away.
Exactly. The Saints had many of the same issues we do on O. By the end of the game they had very few reliable weapons for Brees to actually throw to. We were able to really go after Brees. If he had a full compliment of weapons we likely sacrifice pass rush for coverage. The personal allowed us to have our best players on the field on D because it gave us a great match up. The Saints were able to do the same to us when we were on O at the end the difference was we were ahead and the likelihood of us breaking a run with our best Offensive option was still pretty good even though the Saints were playing that match up. We did it all game and we didn't need to take any risk at that point.
I wouldn't have been passing either with a rookie QB, a lead and a bunch of unknown players at WR and TE. I don't get the people criticizing the Jets for not throwing the ball on Sunday. It's like the critics are playing Madden Football in their minds and expecting the Jets coaches to go along with the fantasies that creates.
The reality is our D's under rex have had a bad habit of playing their worst w/ the game on the line, thankfully that did not happen yesterday.
stop, NO had the ball for just under 30 minutes. The D just made plays(and got a big penalty on the last drive. No excuses in failures of the past.
This is an exciting young defense and team, exciting season and very exciting to see what the future holds for this team
That means the Jets had the ball for just over 30 minutes winning TOP. Please by all means tell me how many times our D has blown leads in games when the offense has committed no turnovers. This whole "defense always chokes late" thing is a myth. It only happens when we cough up the ball multiple times keeping our defense on the field longer. Glad this myth was dispelled today. Those games in the past were lost by SANCHEZ not the D. You used to cite games like Tennessee last year as defensive collapses, when Sanchez threw 4 picks plus a fumble!!! Yeah it wasn't that, it was the D.
It's not a myth, it has been reality. let's look back at our late game chokes since rex took over: 2009: at Miami: ZERO TOs, allow Miami to go 70 yds for the TD trailing by 3 to win the game. vs. jax: multiple TOs but jax had it for 31 mins, we had it for 28 mins. allow last min TD to lose game. vs. Atl: we had ball for just over 30 mins, Atl just under 30 mins just like yesterday. we allow Atl to go 73 yds for the GW TD late 2010: at Cle: had no TOs when D choked. D was on field for about 20 mins prior to last drive when they allowed Cle to score TD to send game to OT. vs. Hou: had 23-7 4th qtr lead, turned it over twice but held ball for 34 mins vs. 25 for Hou. I can go on and on, as wee see they have choked when O has dominated TOP and haven't turned it over as well as choking when O has turned it over. There's no excuse, big time Ds get big time stops. They did it yesterday but have blown a million like it under rex. I feel this D has the makings of a truly special one, this is the beginning stage of that but yesterday was a big step. and no I never blamed the D for Ten, mark was the 31 culprit BUT the D was far from great. Every time we got a lead the D gave it right back. mark gets most of the blame but the average fan thinks the D was great that night and they were not.
