Don't act like there isn't a tendency in the NFL to make flippant decisions after a promising team has a disappointing season. It happens to great HC's and coordinator's, every year. I never said he was elite, but it's disingenuous to argue that he's not a solid DC, or that this Saints D isn't top 3rd in the league.

If you read back, the argument is whether it is a big deal to beat a Rob Ryan D.

I say it is not. Again, 2 teams each fired him after 2 years. Not a sign of a good DC.

This year, he started with the worst D ever. He cleared out guys, put some new guys in and made them respectable. This is not the work of a genius. A good job, sure, but what has he done to make it seem like a huge accomplishment to beat one of his defenses?

I say a DC on his third team in 5 years just isn't that great. How do you argue that?

On the grounds that the Rob Ryan defense took the field today was 4th in the league in points allowed? It's indisputable that beating a defense that strong, with the personnel we have is an impressive feat. By your logic, any coach who finds success after being fired a couple times should be discredited.

How did going from you are completely wrong by saying today was his best game, go to saying he is the savior?

    Here it is.

I thought the Jets would be 6-10 this year. It would appear I am very wrong. (fortunately) I am happy to admit I am very wrong. I am enjoying the hell out of this year.

You said today was Geno's best game. You have been provided with solid evidence why you are clearly wrong, yet you can't/won't admit it.

    It's not that hard.

You are wrong. It's not a knock on Geno. You are simply a buffoon to continue to insist today was his best game.

Did I say it should be discredited? I already stated the original argument (before you were involved) is why beating a Rob Ryan D is not some amazing feat. And yes........he is doing a good job this year. Is he a great DC? No way in hell based on his prior track record. If you think he is, based on 9 games this year, you are crazy. To dispute your 4th in the league in points allowed, they are 25th against the run. 25th!! Is that elite or something? The Jets HoF runners (sarcasm) shredded them today. The Jets OC figured they couldn't stop the run, so they ran against them.

Wow.....you are clearly impressed easy. The Jets did a very nice job today. Ask Dallas fans or Browns fans if beating Rob Ryan is something to get excited about.

Nice job by the Jets, but Rob Ryan simply isn't that good.

Look, I don't know who supposedly died and made you the expert on all things football.

You clearly enjoyed Geno's Monday night performance against Atlanta where we won by a whopping 2 points. It is your opinion that Geno did so wonderfully great in that game that almost nothing else he does this season short of winning the Superbowl will top that performance. Just because you have this opinion does not mean that everyone shares that opinion let alone make it fact.

Rob Ryan's Saint defense is in the top five this year by just about any measure you would like to apply. The only other game the Saints have lost all year was to the Patriots. As good as they are (I do think that they are a good team), they had to cheat on the last play of the game to win. Rob Ryan is highly regarded in the league as knowing a thing or two about defense despite your opinion of him. Whether or not you think Rob Ryan is a good coach, beating this Saint team, this year without turning the ball over (not even once) is an accomplishment.

What you have also clearly missed were my many, many posts throughout this season posted in this very thread that were highly critical of Geno Smith. Many, many people posting in this thread are huge fans of Geno Smith and strongly believe that we should be committed to him as our franchise QB despite his glaring faults (specifically his failure to hold onto the football and his inconsistency which seems to cause us to alternate wins and losses on a weekly basis). While I answered your post, not everything I had to say was entirely in response to you and your highly opinionated posts.

One thing I would like to believe is that Geno Smith is capable of learning from his mistakes and improving his game. Losing every other week undermines that belief. If the Atlanta game was his best than it is possible that instead of improving that Geno has regressed and is playing worse than he had played then. For now I will stand by my statement that this was Geno Smith's best game so far and hold onto the idea that he is getting better and that a loss in our next game is not guaranteed.

His defenses are consistently competitive, if not in top third of the NFL. This year he took a historically bad defense, and made them respectable, in one offseason. Again, the defenses he had in Cleveland and Dallas were worse before, and after, he coached there. As to why he was fired from those positions, I have absolutely no idea, could be the fact those those teams have been perennial losers the last 15 years, and coach's are always the first to go.

Their run defense is suspect, no question, but overall that's a solid group that comes to play every week. If you're not impressed that this Jets team beat them, I don't know what to tell you.

It is impossible for anybody to miss your endless and repetitive posts criticizing Smith. What you repeatedly fail to comprehend is what it means to be a rookie QB in a league where veteran QBs are inconsistent.

    1. Impossible or not, SufferingJetsFan seemed oblivious

    2. Perhaps waiting 43 years for a Superbowl win has made me impatient but rookie or no rookie, there has to be some accountability. A couple missed field goals or bad plays may have turned one or more of our wins into losses. So our record (currently 5-4 woot!) does sugarcoat some of the problems we have had (turnovers chief among them).

At some point, even with a rookie you have to pull the plug. This week being an odd week we got the good Geno and we got a win. My concern is the even weeks when we got the bad Geno and had teams like the Titans and Bengals beat the snot out of us. I just find it frustrating that some people do not seem to have an answer to the question, just what would Geno have to do to get benched?

    2) Well the Jets shouldn't be making decisions because fans are impatient. The should make football decisions based on football things.

You don't necessarily have to pull the plug on Geno, especially when this is a year to you know decide what we have in Geno.

What would Geno have to do to get benched? Stopped contributing positively to the team for 3-4 weeks probably. With now 7 games left, he would really have to suck it up for the next 4 weeks to get benched, but that if the Jets are out of the playoff race by then, they might just let Geno played it out to make sure to see what they have in Geno.

As of now, Geno has probably exceeded many peoples expectations because well their expectations were terribly low. I think there are definitely positives for him as a QB, but he's struggling like most rookies QBs with consistency and protecting the football. HE has shown improvements in areas of the game and done a better job overall the last few weeks. He will probably stick around next year, whether it be a backup or starting who knows, but he will stick around.

I sincerely hope that after today, the whole "AIR RAID QUARTERBACKS WILL NEVER SUCCEED IN THE NFL!" gets buried and then some. Case Keenum has had a strong 1st two starts, Nick Foles for the most part has been sensational for the Eagles including a magical game and Geno has done more good than bad year 1 in his rookie season.

That's not to say all 3 become superstars or hold this but I think it at the very least shows it doesn't matter what college or what system you come from, if you have the tools of a Quarterback and proper coaching, you can succeed.

Lets slow down, Geno has like 16 turnovers on the season already and we won a game despite only 8 completions.

He didn't need to make completions because of the running game and because there's no reason to score early with bombs and give Brees the ball. The Jets HAD to grind it and win Time of Poss. to beat the Saints. You don't need or want to get in a shootout with the Saints, especially if you don't have a deep threat since Hill was getting covered and could not get himself open.

And I get he has turnovers but he also has 8 throwing TDs and what 3 or 4 rushing TDs too? He's up and down, I am not crowning him anything but he HAS shown the ability to be a good QB moving forward just like he has shown some bad tendencies too, as with any rookie.

What I've seen is a coaching staff losing confidence in Geno as each week the offense has been especially simplified and more wildcat calls. Blame it on personnel? Sure, can't say we have any viable weapons on offense at this point but its a troubling sign IMO. Also out of those 8 completions I think like 3 or 4 were screens? That's almost Tebow like to be honest.

I disagree. The running game was working to perfection today, so we utilized that a lot more.

And personnel is absolutely a factor.

He also threw the ball under 20 times and had I believe two drops from his targets so he should have been maybe around the 60% completion total. Not that completion pct. really means a whole lot.

Geno's purpose was to catch the Saints off guard so they had to at least respect the pass/deep pass so Ivory/Powell can pound them. They know they need Geno moving forward, it is just some games calls for running it over passing it. Marty's bread and butter is to dial up constant passing plays.

Blaming Geno today is asinine. His receivers couldn't get open for shit, and he made quite a few VERY smart decisions by throwing the ball away instead of forcing balls into non-open receivers. If he tries to force some passes, he may have a few more completions, but also likely has an interception or two.

Our current TE is a UDFA rookie that was cut a few weeks ago by a TE-needy team in NE (one that LOVES to use TEs and makes the most of TEs) without Hernandez or Gronk. Our current WRs are an extremely raw 2nd round pick from a year ago that has arguably been our worst WR, a UDFA that was cut by a WR needy team in Cleveland, and another UDFA that was signed off another team's PS. None of these players (Hill excluded) were on the team week 1, and have little to no chemistry with Geno.

It's a shame, with Holmes coming back, our WR corps could've finally had some stability, and then Kerley gets hurt. His wrist looks bad, could be a season-ending injury.

the running game was working wonders, while passing was a necessity to keep the defense honest at times there was no need for Geno and the passing game to be a major factor.

It has nothing to do with losing confidence in Geno and everything to do with adapting to what was working and what would win them the game. he may not have a sexy fantasy stat line but he played well for the most part, even scoring once. hell you could put the best QB out there with this bunch and the run would be the better option.

With the way we've been running the ball it would've been asinine to ask Geno to dropback and throw a lot.

    You are oversimplifying the situation.

Rookie QB loses his weapons in rotation and the coaching staff decides to go with the one area of the talent pool not crippled by injuries. They go with the one area where you can argue that an effort to import talent occurred.

    Think about it.

David Nelson, Greg Salas and Zach Suderfeld OR Chris ivory and Bilal Powell, hmmm?

Geno's receiving options yesterday were from the cut pool.
