Jones had 1200 and 1300 yard seasons Back to back before coming to the Jets. Having a decent backup isnt just about running, its about blocking, blitz pickup and pass catching too.

My post count isn't high enough to create a thread, so I thought I would put this here. I didn't see a thread on this. Sorry if I just missed it. Feel free to make a thread if you feel this is news worthy.

New York Jets sign running back Kahlil Bell

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The New York Jets have released running back John Griffin with an injury, and signed running back Kahlil Bell and wide receiver Rahsaan Vaughn.

Griffin broke his left leg in the team's 26-17 loss to Detroit on Friday night, when he was taken down on a horse-collar tackle by Travis Lewis. Griffin was trying to win a spot in the Jets' thin backfield.

Bell played in three games for the Jets last season, catching one pass for 2 yards and also losing a fumble. He was waived in December by New York before being signed by Chicago, where he played his first three NFL seasons.

Bell had a career-high 337 rushing yards for the Bears in 2011.

Vaughn was an undrafted free agent who played two years at the University of Oregon after two seasons at the College of San Mateo.

So those practices and games he missed in August don't seem so important now do they?

So Ivory is our #1 RB?

This week he was. Week 11 .. who knows. I think both bring something different, so the Jets will use both. Ivory does have the ability to enforce his will a bit more though.

I don't think we necessarily need to go RB that badly in the 2014 draft. If there is a CLEAR BPA, by all means take him, but definitely don't reach for a RB at any point in the draft.

Ivory, Powell, and even a returning Goodson (who looked great in his limited action when you keep in mind he had no TC or pre-season really) is a really good stable of RBs.

I agree with you about the RB, but it is clear as day that we need to upgrade TE, and WR. It couldn't be more obvious that our pass reception skill is the biggest weakness.

I agree about WR, although I could see Sudfeld becoming very good at TE. The Jets are lacking that reliable main target or two. I could definitely see Nelson making the team next year, and Kerley will be great in the slot. Not feeling too confident about Hill though, and I think Holmes is done here. So- yeah, that's the biggest area where the Jets need an upgrade.

On defense, hopefully Rex will be right about Millner, but I think CB is also a big priority area with Cro' seemingly in decline (although he had 1 pick and almost had 2 - 3 more. Maybe that was more the result of the D-line forcing Brees to hurry all the time and not giving him any time to make his reads.)

Upgrades anywhere are good- but I think that to build a really good team, I definitely agree that the Jets need some better targets for Smith. Also very important for Smith to keep developing (which he seems to be doing, even though today he needed to be a game manager to give the Jets the best chance to win). If the Jets' defense can keep generating turnovers (like it did against Brady in the second NE game, and Brees- two QBs who almost never throw interceptions) then the defense will be truly great.
