I think Sundays game at home will show where the Jets are...this should be very similar to the fins game last night...2 strong offensive teams going on the road.
I'm actually at the point where the only thing that matters is either a W or L. Score does not prove anything at all, nothing. You can't predict the momentum in a game, one play can change everything, the gameplan can get tossed out because of one play.
The Bengals are areal good team and showed it against us. What goes widely unnoticed, unaccepted and denied around here and with other Jet fans is that Miami is a good team, a lot better than us. Are they truly better than the Bengals, no but they were last night. There is a much higher probability that Miami sweeps us than we sweep Miami. Most likely though it will be a split
A combination of a Bengals team showing how good they can be, vs a Jets team showing how bad they can be, we gave up almost 40 to a mediocre titans team , if this team pulls there heads out of there asses an beats the saints, then you have to look at the coaching staff, the 1 week on next off, is a god indication of a bad coaching staff.
How the hell in the world did Phins beat the Bengals last night ? and we got beat sooooo badly by the Bengals? I guess we need to really WAKE the FK up!
An ex-pro coach was hanging out in my office Friday afternoon. I asked him point blank...."Is there any way the Jets win against the Saints?" He looked at me like I was an idiot for even asking the question.
I'm trying to think of another coach that might have gone 5 of 9 against the schedule the Jets have faced, against the injuries the Jets have had on offense and with the point differential they've had. The only guy I can come up with is Buddy.
DEEP DECLINE  the only team I see in deep decline is us ,Tampa would rip us to apart ,and I wouldnt be betting heavy we could beat Jax...
To add my value, I did some background check: By picks: 2013: CB, DT, QB, OG, OT, OG, FB 2012: DE, WR, ILB, FS, SS, WR, RB, OG 2011: DT, DT, RB, WR, QB, WR 2010: DB, OT, RB, FB 2009: QB, RB, OG Top three rounds in bold. You can clearly see this is going nowhere. 1. In the past five years, Jets blew two early picks on QB, with minimal return. 2. On top of that, they blew 2 #1s on CB - frankly, this is where I strongly disagree with Rex. I believe it was either abyzmul or br4d - one of them [I don't recall which one it was] posted about 'central' players and 'sideline' players. [I am inclined to think it was br4d.] Central players are literally those who align at the center of the field - safeties, OL/DL, QB, RB, LBs and TEs. Sideline players are just that - WRs and CBs. Of course value lies with the central players, as they make themselves more useful regardless of the situation. WRs and CBs mean something in passing game mostly. [You don't recall Calvin Johnson being praised for his monster block, do you?] 3. Another salient figure in that draft figure is the constant project picks at round 2. I have maintained for some time - with the possible exception of QB, you just do NOT draft a project player in the first three rounds. That's where you get a solid contributor to the roster. I don't know who is responsible for this, but whoever called the shot on these picks don't know jack shit about drafting - that's for sure. We will see if this stupidity trend continues from next season on - then we will know Rex was pulling this stunt all the time. For now, I'd have to say it was T-Bomb fucking things up. 4. Probably it was BPA thingie, but still too many picks went to DL - and the best one didn't even come from the draft either. I'd see if Coples can be unloaded for picks. As for OL, other than the one pick at 3rd last year, Ducasse is the lone selection in the top 3 round. This is with Faneca leaving and Woody retiring. No wonder the OL is in shambles now. On top of that, there is no S/OLB selection in these positions, even with massive needs at that spot. Of course, not enough offensive picks during that span either. 2010 was about the last time Jets had a half-semblance of functional offense. Then Braylon was let go, Tomlinson retired, Woody retired and hell broke loose in 2011. Again, even with these retirements/leaving imminent, Jets FO did nothing to groom a successor to replace them in the first place. 5. The back breaker is that, of these picks, not many are still with the Jets - and we are talking the draft of the past 5 years only. 2009 draft looks like it went down the drain. Sanchez, the only holdover from the draft, will be gone by next season. 2010 looks just as bad - Kyle Wilson will be the lone holdover, with Ducasse sent packing this season. Conner and McKnight are both gone already. It's same shit for other drafts too. It's really ironic that the most salient contributors came from the late few drafts. No wonder this team is in train wreck. 6. Since this depletion of roster did not happen overnight, it won't be fixed overnight either. Jets will have to keep blowing at least 1 top picks on QBs until they find the right one - which makes this rebuilding harder. Other than that, you all know what it will take. Jets still need 2x OLBs that are here to stay, 2x S that will stay, and then a whole slew of offensive crews, starting from minimum 3 OLs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 RB and maybe 1 QB. That's 12 roster spots to fill - a daunting task, if you ask me.
It's a good post but I think you're being harsh coming up with 12 holes in #6. I really see no RB need, Ivory is an above average back, Goodson might be even better or at least a good complement and Powell is shitty but not for a third option. Even without Goodson this year the RB's are a semi functional unit and they'd be good with him for low salaries. Sure it could be improved but why mess with a cheap above average unit? I also don't see 2 OLB's. I think we could try again with Barnes on the cheap and if the idea is you're dumping Coples he should be no giveaway so bringing in a more natural OLB or other position of need should result. I think Allen might be workable for 1 S but won't argue too much there because if he is maybe Cromartie or Milliner, (with Walls unable to step up e to step h Up or maybe more likely not given the chance to) isn't which would be a wash at DB. I also think Howard is very workable based on this year. Can't give up on Ferguson by a long shot so it seems like just the 2 guards at least for 2-3 years until something changes. It isn't at all pretty but there is plenty of cap for FA and extra picks, the team could be built to compete next year if there was a QB, but there isn't. That's the main problem for next year. The injuries and lack of depth is definitely making the roster a joke this year but I'd take another cheap shot on some of those guys next year hoping for a better outcome. Basically I think the QB situation is worse than it seems while the rest of the situation is better than it seems.
I think the real question is whether Rex is here next year or not. If he's here then the Jets will be rebuilding the offense and making minor patches on the defense, with maybe a safety drafted at some point. Maybe an OLB. If he's not here the Jets will be rebuilding on both sides of the ball, because very few people have the chops to take the Jets current defensive talent and make it shine the way Rex does. The Jets are playing 4 DT's in a regular role on defense at this point between Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison and Coples. Nobody they bring in is going to look at those 4 guys and have even a remote clue how to get the most out of them. They don't fit in a 3-4 or a 4-3. They fit in Rex's defense.
If they let Rex go we're so screwed it isn't even funny. Maybe he isn't the best HC in the world but he's the only guy that's even possibly available to win with the core of this team. If he gets canned it's going to be 5 years basement dwelling minimum before the whole thing can be restructured and talent rebuilt, and that's making a huge assumption that the next guy will be good enough to get the job done even if all of that goes well enough. I also happen to still believe that with a strong GM and OC to keep Rex from himself combined with a real franchise QB he can easily be the guy to keep the team competitive for a long time and one of the more effective HC's in the league. Try to minimize what he gives up on offense, while maximizing what he adds to defense compared to the pack and there is a lot of potential value there. The first round has gone CB, DT, DT, CB; the bed is made now it has to be slept in.
I call horseshit on the nobody can coach this defense but Rex argument. Thurman can coach it under a new HC. Fixing the offense will be the big task since we let it go to pot during Rex's tenure. Let's say we retain Rex, is he going to sign off on a Offensive pick in the first round? Fuck no, Rex doesn't need an offense. His guys can get turnovers and score. At least that looks like what his plan was from the get go. Time for a change, hell it was time last year.
