We finish the 2013 season at 8-8. We resign RT Austin Howard with caution. If he gets greedy – let him go test the market. We can keep an eye on RT Eric Winston coming off his 1 year deal and then draft a long term solution in 2015. I’m thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of a little less than what a better Patriots RT Sebastian Vollmer took back in March 2013 = 4yrs $17million – 8/9 million guaranteed. We sign Jon Asamoah (OG) from KC --- FA guard who will turn 26yrs old at the beginning of 2014 training camp. All we have on the roster is 1yr Willie Colon and rookies Brian Winters, William Campbell and others. We need a young experienced capable vet. Extend TE Jeff Cumberland for at least 2yrs --- JC seems to have a connection with Geno Smith. No big FA splash because we use the $$ this year to get Muhammad Wilkerson under contract for a long time. Good riddance to Santonio Holmes go and resign David Nelson to a short term deal. Some of you will laugh at that saying prior to October 1, Nelson wasn’t even on someone’s roster. But after only about 4 weeks he has made a decent connection with Geno Smith & I feel that whatever Geno wants, - then Geno shall have. And obviously, adios Senior Sanchez. 1 (15) Khalil Mack - OLB – Buffalo 6-3 248 Calvin Pace is finally done. Guy McIntyre & even Antwan Barnes are not starting material. Hate going defense but we have such a glaring need across from Coples that we need to plug it. BPA with a dire position need makes this an easy selection. Mack currently plays OLB in the Buffalo 3-4 defense so the transition should be easier. 2 (47) Austin Seferian-Jenkins - TE - Washington 6-6 276 I might be smoking weed on this one, but there’s a chance that ASJ will be somewhere around here. I’ve seen more than a couple of mocks putting him in the 2nd round. Univ of Washington has incorporated more options into their O & its actually hurting ASJ draft stock. Don’t get me wrong, I like Cumberland & want to resign him to get some 2 TE sets working. Geno needs young weapons to grow with & he needs them as early as possible in his career. 3 (66) Brandon Coleman - WR – Rutgers 6-5 220 This is the TB-Revis trade. I’m going to take Mike Evans twin brother --- only I get him at the top of the 3rd round because he doesn’t have Johnny Manziel tossing him the ball. So long to Santonio Holmes and Clyde Gates. Talking Brandon Coleman, Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley & KEEPING David Nelson for our WR corps. We can certainly find an established veteran (something like what San Francisco found with Anquan Boldin). 3 (79) Deone Bucannon – SS – Washington St. 6-1 215 Despite the relatively successful annual experienced (though older) vet plug-in at the safety position, its time to draft a young thumper with some speed. Bucannon has been a tackling machine as well a solid hitter. Antonio Allen could easily be better moved to FS. 4 (111) Morgan Moses – OT/OG – Virginia 6-6 325 Austin Howard could possibly be elsewhere in 2014. And even if we resign Howard for 2014 season, we have zero depth behind Ferguson & Howard for 2014. Last year’s 5th rounder Oday Aboushi is more like a guard. We get our 3rd Cavalier OL on the team, - powerful drive blocker. Long arms. Has held up well enough with pass blocking. 5 (143) Max Bullough – ILB – Michigan St. 6-3 245 David Harris is a free agent after 2014. Not sure what we’ll do about him, but if he goes, I just don’t see guys like Nick Bellore & Josh Mauga as possible replacements. Bullough has 3 years starting experience in the Big 10. 2 time team captain. Good instincts and he actually does well dropping into coverage. 6 (175) Demarcus Lawrence - OLB - Boise St. 6-3 245 Again, - our LB core isn’t that great & there could possibly be some openings after season. Garrett McIntyre is RFA after 2013. Ricky Sapp is on & off the roster constantly. Calvin Pace will be gone & A. Barnes coming back from knee injury. DL has good size & athleticism for the 3-4 OLB spot. 7 (206) Alfred Blue - RB - LSU 6-1 222 Powell is signed for 2014, we just spent last year’s 4th round draft pick on Chris Ivory & I saw enough of Goodson to give him 1 more shot. I like Goodson, but after this season ending injury & legal issues down the road, the future for him is a little murky. Blue has deceptive speed & great size. LSU has been passing this year so he doesn’t have a lot of wear & tear on him.
Clinton haha , Craig loston better choices for the safety position. But tight end either that dude or eric ebron for sure. And about Khalil Mack why him and not Kyle van Noy assuming anthony bar is gone when we pick.
HaHa Clinton Dix has been projected as a 1st rounder, but IMO his play has been inconsistent. I would rather spend our 1st rounder on Mack. KVNoy is a fringle/late 1st rounder. If we happen to trade down, then yes - I want KVNoy. Same thing with Loston who probably wont be around at 78/79. If he is, I'd reconsider. Ebron will be well gone by 47
If this draft happened, I'd be fucking ecstatic. That being said, I'd be ecstatic because there is no way in hell ASJ drops to the middle second. I also don't think Coleman has a shot in hell in lasting till the third. If they do, I'd be all for it obviously. Disagree about AA though. He's definitely a SS. He played a SS/LB hybrid at SC, and one good game against Gronk doesn't make him a FS. I'd rather draft a FS.
Nice work WWS. There is a lot of great receivers in this draft and as much as I love Mike Evans I would pass on him to fill another hole and get a WR in 2 or 3. I do love Khalil Mack, kid is having a lights out year. Him and Van Noy are my two favorite LB's coming out. ASJ would be a steal in the second, I could see it happening. Like most, I like Ebron over him but ASJ is also a great talent.
I just can't see two guys that are 6" 4' + playing receiver for us if Marty is OC. Coleman is a good player, but Marty's systems usually go with smaller shiftier receivers. If anything I would like another smaller receiver either in FA or the draft and run 4 receiver sets from there. I'm just not sure how these tall receivers would be with Marty's quick short passes, although they would be great with Marty's longer passes, which he seems to really like. I think best player for us is Sammy Watkins, but I don't think he'd be there for us.
