We're not going to win now based on talent.

The only reason we're still competitive is the coaching. The Jets have scored 143 points in 8 games and allowed 211. That margin is the 4th worst in football after Jacksonville, the Giants and Houston respectively. The Jets point differential is worse than the 0-7 Bucs...

It's the coaching. On both sides of the ball the Jets are getting as much bang for the buck as you can get off the talent available. We're also getting really lucky at the end of games.

People who expect this team to go berserk in the second half and make the playoffs are just setting themselves up for disappointment. This was a 5 to 8 win team going into the season and so far they have performed in the upper reaches of that range.

Looking at the second half schedule it's easy to say that things should improve because the the teams on it are weak. The problem with the reasoning is that the Jets are weak also.

Nobody who has the Jets on the schedule in the second half is saying "uh oh, we play the Jets". All of those teams are thinking they'll have a chance to get healthy against us.

That doesn't mean we couldn't continue to get lucky and win 9 or 10 games and sneak into the playoffs because we could. It does mean that we're just as likely to go 3-5 in the second half and wind up at 7-9.

Just like the Seahawks did a couple of years running before they broke out in 2012.

I think U should amend your post so that it reads there will be many, many, many NYJ fans born after 01/12/69 that will NEVER/EVER see a NYJ SB championship in their lifetime. My son born 1971 was the coiner of that phrase not me BTW.

I was born in '66 and didn't even get a TV until '74. I have never seen a Jets team win the SB and hope that I/we will sometime soon.
I'm more of a 'glass half full' type of person and honestly think that finally we have some really good sensible brains running the team.
I hope your son is wrong

So do I but I will caution U he said that when he was 12 or so & so far the facts have proven himself 100% correct sorry to say. Do not hang your hat on our new GM cause so far his star in not shining brightly (see Dee M & Geno for 2 examples). Yes he appears to have hit a HR with Richardson however. Well I attended the parade after SB 3 win, I watched the championship flag lifted before the 1st home game of the 70 season. I was at the PO game between Oak & us in Dec 69 & saw SB3 & won lots of money from my friend when JWN & the NYJs did the impossible. I've seen a lot of people come & go from the NYJs ivory tower & up to now they have gotten it 100% wrong no matter if it was Hess or Woody as owner sorry to say & I am only stating the FACTs which is all that matters

At some point this will change, a 1 in 32 chance says so.

What I want to see this year is the team to win enough to keep Rex as HC and to evaluate Geno. As many have said anyone that expects this team, as constructed, to make the playoffs is fooling themselves.

Rex has finally found the perfect counterpart to himself in MM so that his lack of offensive capabilities is now a non-issue. This is it for him, he will never be HC again because he's clueless on offense in an offensive era. That said he motivates players well and they like playing for him, that along with a guy like MM is a recipe for success so long as they accumulate the talent needed.

My concern isn't with wins this year its with Idzik. Will they finally start picking offensive players in the draft after ignoring them for years? Will he be patient to wait his turn or will he pull a Tanny and package valuable picks to move up and select rotational guys that will be out of the league within a few years after being drafted? Will he target the proper FA guys and not overpay?

btw.. for those looking forward to 2015 lets not forget that both Mangold and Brick are getting up there in age and will need to be replaced. I think Brick has already started his decline. This coming FA period and the 2014 draft are critical to the future of this team. If they succeed they'll have plugged the many holes this team has and it will allow them to not panic when it comes time to replace aging stars. If they fail, this team will have even more holes to fill and could be closer to 0-7 Jacksonville than the playoffs in 2 years.

We haven't had a ring in so long this question may sound stupid, but how important are multiple rings vs one-and-done?

Would you take a 100% guarantee of one ring if you knew we'd not make the playoffs again the next 10 years, or go for 85% chance of 3 rings in a row, none of which are guaranteed?

While I hope we do not stop at just one SB I was born in 1970 so my answer is to take the 100% guaranteed SB rather than risk not seeing the Jets win one in my lifetime.

The only sucky part about becoming a dynasty and winning multiple rings is all the Pats fans dumping their Brady jerseys for Geno Smith jerseys.

Sorry they have been in a tail spin for 44 years now & NOTHING has changed. Lets just look at Woody ownership & he who he hired as HC. Herm then Man & now Rex & what has those 3 wizards brought now I will answer my own question nothing but more losing. You sound like a person at a blackjack table & your luck has been sour & you keep throwing good money after bad by continuing to play hoping against hope that your luck will change & U will be rewarded with many $100.00 chips but naturally that does not happen.

Here is just a little something for you to remember people play lotto for years & years & years & never hit the jackpot so just because the odds are narrower 1-32 does not make it a reality & IMHO U are way off base to think like that

odds aren't really 1-32 at all. That's an archaic way of looking at things. Since it's something you produce, not something you are handed, the odds increase and decrease based upon your ability to make them so. Not to mention these odds would reset every year.

It's like putting 32 college graduates in a room and saying "one of you will have the right combination of skills, knowledge, hard work and luck - that you will become CEO"

If I'm sitting in that room - my odds of being that one person that will become CEO isn't 1-32 at all, they aren't picking it out of a hat. I can increase my odds by working harder, or my odds might ALWAYS be terrible because I'm dumb, etc.

It's too late to start losing now. We're already too deep, 4-4. We might as well keep fighting and finish beating up on the rest of the divisions and hopefully something crazy can happen.

    Super Bowl

I was around in '69 and really enjoyed the run. I took my son to his first game in '83 and he is a big fan. I still hope for a return to the SB. Today's Jets are young and are breaking in a new QB. The game has changed, you used to win with a QB and defense but now it's a QB and receivers. I think Smith has the tools to be an above average QB and they need more weapons on offense. None of this will happen overnight so if every game requires a new evaluation top to bottom they will get no where. Idzik is doing his job. We have been fortunate to have won some games and the season is interesting so far. Enjoy it for what it is and stop bitching.

The 1 guaranteed. The 3 you go for when you already have one recently to build on that. For a team that hasn't for 44 years, you take the guaranteed ring.

I enjoy NFL football played at a high level and I enjoy having a rooting interest so I follow the NY Jets. I'm also a season ticket holder for the Cardinals near where I have a winter home.

The reason winning a Championship is fun is you get to participate in a year of good football culminating in your team playing great football.

It's not the trophy it's the way you play the game. The Jets have to become that team that can play good football and turn it up to great football to win the trophy. It's about the game your team can actually play not the trophy. It's a process and if you can't live with the process you might as well not live with the NY Jets as your team.
