Disclaimer: I'm not giving up on Miliner Just read this article and thought that I'd read it before, which I haven't. It dawned on me how similar it is to when Rex talked up Gholston. For Rex to say that he's going to be the best rookie CB isn't exactly going out on a limb, IMO its been a weak draft for CBs. Poor bloke has had injuries, missing OTAs and TC and now is thrust into a league where transitioning is notoriously difficult. But I disagree with Rex wholeheartedly that Dee ....."I think with Dee, when I went back and I watched that tape," Ryan said, "he's a lot closer than I think (he's) given credit for." He looks worlds away from even being half decent. Rex is a great DC and is getting better at being a HC, but I really wonder about how him benching Dee twice its going to affect the young man. Certainly not positively. If Dee gets 'picked' on again, is Rex going to bench him again?
Up to now give Dee a F-------------------- for contribution to the team. That is fact Jack! Up to now the draftnik experts on this forum were 100% incorrect on his skills
We should have taken an OL at that position. When the Jets were successful they had a solid Offensive Line. We've had too many first round draft busts.
We're all hoping Millner turns into a great corner but nobody should take Rex comments seriously here. He's the ultimate, glass-half-full kind of guys when discussing his players. If Vernon was still on the Jets, he'd still be saying how he sees him ready to "turn-the-corner" and become a solid player.
Rex spouting off again... There is no evidence of this on the field. Maybe there was in the SEC, but not in the NFL.
Hindsight is 20/20. Plus its only been half of 1 season. Too early to judge any rookies at this point.
gonna be fun to watch Dee become a pro bowler for the next 5 or more seasons and LMAO at our typical bridgejumping SOJFs demanding his firing after FOUR NFL games
I understand that Rex seems to be delusional with what he said, but it's definitely good that he said what he said. Dee knows he's been bad and he could use some confidence boosting by one of the best defensive-minded coaches in the NFL at the moment. I still believe he will turn it around, he's only a rookie at the half of the season. Benching him after that terrible play was the right thing to do to show him that he has to do better. Now that those games are behind us it is good to show that there is still faith in Dee, and that is exactly what Rex did.
Instead of talking him up, I'd prefer Rex continue challenging Milliner to grow. In fairness to Milliner, he missed a lot of time in the preseason, and several games in the regular season. At a position with a tough learning curve, he hasn't played much yet. So certainly there is a good chance of improvement in the coming year or two. But i wouldn't talk him up. Would rather continue with benching where needed, challenging him in film room and practice, so he sees exactly how much growth is still needed in order to be effective in this league. Some of these guys from great collegiate programs get a little too full of themselves, and rely on their superior athleticism and surrounding team to win. In the NFL, everyone has superior athleticism, and not many dominant supporting casts. That means he will have to work his tail off, and improve awareness and technique. Eating a little humble pie might be better long term for Dee.
I wish Rex would just say that Dee sucks, and then cut him. He should really give up on his players much sooner than he does. It's a winning strategy.
You guys hating on Dee , he has no fault in being drafted 9 overall if he didnt meet your expectations thats fine live with it and no one gives up on a first round rookie on his first year.
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic, at least I hope. -- But anyway, I completely agree with what some of you said that Rex should be challenging Milliner in all aspects, interviews, film room, practice, game day. I also agree with what someone said that part of it could be that he thinks a little highly of himself. He was drafted high as expected, immediately compared to Revis by many, and given the starting job on the outside. The kid even held out for a while, which was absolutely ridiculous and funny to look back on now that we've seen him struggle. He's just got to get better and do better. I am all for whatever means necessary to get that to happen.
I definitely agree... In order to make our SOJFs happy, Rex and Idzik should get together on the first day of OTAs and immediately announce that ALL the players drafted are BUSTS and cut them. There is NO room for patience, coaching and player development in the gloomy world of some of our pathetic "fan"base
Milliner Maybe we should always have a post where rational fans can comment. Most of these rants are worthless. All heat and no light.
Yes, I was being sarcastic. 8 weeks into his rookie year and many have given up on him. It's pathetic. Rex doesn't need to "challenge him" in the media. What good does that do besides satisfy the SOJFs and the idiot asking him "Rex, why does Dee suck so bad?" Keep your dirty laundry in house and challenge him on the sidelines, in practice, and in the film room. I have absolutely no doubt that is happening. Shit, he may be getting screamed at this very second. Eventually, Milliner may turn out to be a bust, he may be serviceable, or he may be an All-Pro. It's too early to label him, but there are always idiots who will make the early call so they can say they knew it all along. If they're wrong, they'll quietly slip on the bandwagon and not mention how horrifically wrong they were.
The point about Ryan is not whether it is time to give up on Milliner. The point about Ryan is this kind of talk has no cred. If Ryan had said I think if he works hard and learns from his mistakes he can and will turn out to be a great corner, no one would be complaining. But Rex tends to leave out what it takes to get from here to there.
Well according to Rex, we should have already won a Superbowl, plus he also claimed, he could fix Gholston, nuff said
Milliner's a bust. Snacks was a bust before this year. sick of this team dealing with current and former busts. Cut all the funding to this shambles of a football program and give it to the flight crew for new jumpsuits.
