Many fans like myself wanted the jets to take Jarvis Jones with the 12th pick in the draft. Well, Idzik took his BPA in Sheldon Richardson who is now looking like the Defensive Rookie of the Year while Jones has been benched by Pittsburgh http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/29/tomlin-benches-first-rounder-jarvis-jones/
Lets see how the season ends...Right now Dee Milliner was also selected and he looks like ass...literally
LONG way to go, Shelden looks great and should be a force for years to come but we did have 2 1st rounders and one looks really bad BUT it is early and way too soon to give up on anyone.
I will proudly admit that I was way wrong about Jarvis Jones! Way wrong!! I will say that I was excited as hell we took Richardson. Didn't think Richardson would be better than Jarvis Jones.
Jarvis isn't quite a bust yet. I imagine it is pretty tough transitioning to a 3-4 OLB after playing DE in college.
I don't think anyone was saying he was a bust. Just evaluation on how both players have produced so far in their rookie years. One has been benched for lack of "detailed" work while the other is fighting for defensive rookie of the year.
I was referring only to the Richardson pick. Imagine the grief Idzik would be getting if he had taken Milliner and Jones?
Sheldon has without a been better than Jarvis Jones, but it's hard to call him a great pick until Coples shows that he can play OLB.
Agreed. Coples really picked it up towards the end of the year. He had 5.5 sacks, and a couple of other sacks negated because of unnecessary roughness penalties. If he had played that way all year, he could've won DROY. If Coples becomes fairly useless as a OLB, the pick still wasn't amazing. Great player, but is Richardson that much of an upgrade over Coples? Not sure. Obviously, if we can find more ways to integrate Coples while keeping Richardson and Wilkerson also in position, then the pick is a slam dunk.
Two first round picks. One was a great choice. This kid will be dominant for a long time. Great attitude. So skilled and athletically talented. Dee blows though. Clearly we needed secondary help but he isn't it.
I dont agree with that drafts should be to stock talent not to fill up needs you draft the best player avaliable even if you are served at the position. Drafting for needs can create busts more frequently cuz you end up drafting a player higher then he should be due to your need.
