That's just it, during the post-game interview Milliner seemed like he was just awakened from a nap and wasn't quite sure where he was. It's very unsettling picturing Milliner as our second corner for the duration.
Expecting optimum performance this season from Dee wasn't what I was expecting. What I was expecting was a guy that showed flashes of potentially being a good CB mixed in with some rookie mistakes. I haven't seen anything even remotely close to 'flash' since he broke up one pass in pre-season. I am NOT calling the guy a bust at this point, but from what we've seen I have no idea how people are saying, "he'll be fine." Based on what?
I'm not throwing him under the bus.....yet, but I am getting nervous about Dee. Does Thurman not trust his backpedal or what (a gripe heard about more than one 'Bama DB) which accounts for his 'cushion' non-press technique?
This was Idzik, playing Cya after trading Revis. Richardson, at 9, Eifert at 13, Mathieu in the 3rd, leaving the Smith pick in tact would have been better. Everyone says, well yes he had 5 surgeries in college, but never missed a game, is retarded. The size, speed and damage potential at the next level is far greater.
I did not like the pick too but more so because of the position. I felt any CB would have the unfair comparison to Revis. It's hard enough to be a rookie CB. Having people perceive you as the replacement to an all world makes it even harder. Secondarily, was not a fan of Milliner because I did not see any a lot of press man coverage on tape, poor ball skills and thought his physicality was a bit overrated. All that said, Rex and company is screwing this up by continuously putting him out there when he is clearly not ready. It would be excusable if we had to play him but we don't. Walls is better at this point; there is no reason for him to be starting ahead of Walls at this moment in time.
Milliner is garbage. We all hate Kyle Wilson but even he is better then this guy. He is absolutely atriocious and has no business wearing a NFL uniform. After watching Terrance Williams tear it up at Baylor last year, i knew it was a mistake to pass up on him and we end up taking this stiff from Alabama who has bust written all over him.
Bare in mind..my post was not based around defense of Milliner. He's got a long way to go. I'm merely pointing out that most young players do in fact need time to develop. Now,I do think Milliner has had some bright spots. He's had a handful of plays in which he's had good coverage.Enough to justify being a 1st round pick? Maybe not. But I don't consider the guy a complete disaster. I think he's struggling w/ his confidence right now. If you aren't 100% confident mentally you're gonna struggle in Rex's D.This is not uncommon for rookie corners. Let's see how he responds to this latest benching.
My point exactly, drafting an offensive weapon at 13, and getting Mathieu as a slot corner was the play
Not a lot of CB's come into the league and contribute as a 1 or 2, right away. Let's just hope he develops as the season progresses.
You gotta give the guy some time, but Rex has benched him twice already. He seems to be injury prone and lost. I hope he turns it around, but it's looking like a shit pick at this point.
I agree. I was hoping we would take Matthieu. He may of had some problems in college but the guy is a natural born playmaker. Something this secondary solely lacks. It isn't like Milliner is getting beat by the best either. Literally EVERYONE is torching this guy. From the Pats crap receivers to guys like Sanu who are just possession receivers. He makes any slow receiver look like Julio Jones. The technique and lack of ball skills is very concerning. I cant remember the last time we had a starting corner as bad as this guy. Rookie or not....
Draft options: I had heard (or was 'told') by others here last April that OG was not a position that you use a top 10 pick to select. And while I generally agree, when it came to this year's draft (and as my post history will attest) when a no-brainer, once-in-a-decade, NFL-ready beast like Chance Warmack is sitting there, he represents the exception. This was not 2012 David DeCastro 2.0 - not by a long shot. Warmack & Richardson. Imagine. This team's roster was (and still is) full of holes and this year's draft alone was not going to address everything (including Revis' supposed "replacement"). Brian Winters is a serviceable Slauson-type player who will get schooled by upper tier DL's. A Warmack-Richardson 1-2 would've addressed both sides of the line, two areas that needed to be addressed given the departures last season. Warmack wasn't just an OG, he was a sure-fire, good money fix. Winters is only playing because Ducasse is not the answer, i.e. there is still a "hole" in the Jets OL and there's no "once-in-a-decade" talent on the radar in this year's draft.
..Except Warmack WASN'T a once in a decade type player & frankly wasn't even the 1st guy chosen at his position. Winters has plenty of upside & should develop nicely w/ time.
