Hill's got 40 receptions on 86 targets as a pro including 19 for 39 this year.

Nelson's got 101 receptions on 161 targets as a pro including 92 in 146 his first two years with Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing to him.

I'd really rather have Nelson out there than Hill at this point. Nelson at least has shown the ability to be a consistent NFL receiver. Hill is flashing all over the place but his inconsistency and lack of receiving skills is hurting the Jets at this point.

If the Jets really want to accelerate Geno's development they have to give him more reliable targets to work with.

Don't get the dissing on Hill. He can certainly be better and has room for improvement and is far from polished but he is doing his job and is progressing. He seems to get behind the secondary at least once every game and defenses are accounting for him as there are 2-3 guys trailing him on these deep patterns. He's a deep threat and is stretching the field and defenses are accounting for his speed. If Geno lays one in his hands vs. Pit where he had his guy beat by 3 yards and he is a little less subtle with his arms vs. McCourty he has two long TD's.

Nelson was admittedly gassed at the end of that game, so let's see how he responds this week.

As to your point about developing Geno with reliable targets, I couldn't agree more.

Again, I'm not in love with hill, but David Nelson needs to show me more than one week before I anointing him. And true, it was with Fitzpatrick, but it was also 2 years ago before the reconstructed knee.

Keep Holmes out till after the bye. I understand these next two weeks are big games but it's best to bring him back at 100%. He hasn't been 100% all year so let him rest and bring him back slowly for him to tear it up after the bye.

In regards to Hill I'm surprised to see his lack of involvement. It seems like he's primarily running deep routes and often teams are accounting for him with a safety over the top. It's a good decoy with the occasional shot downfield and frees things up for the other guys underneath. He provides a good balance to the offense but needs to get better running intermediate routes. Still very raw but has shown some pretty decent hands this year at least. As another poster said, a well thrown ball vs Pitt and a noncall against NE and he has two huge plays. Something the offense has lacked for a long time.

For all the bitching Holmes did about not being to 'pass the ball to myself' he better know when he come back that Geno was doing okay without him. Speaking of which, I kinda feel bad for Geno. Talk about not having weapon. How do you not throw INTs when your primary receiver is little 5'8 Kerley.

You mean Hill isn't catching the majority of the balls Geno lobs up into the air and he's doubled/tripled covered downfield, having to go up against all those opponents in jump balls?? Crazy...

Remember when Brady had 3 receivers all under 5'9. If someone is open, doesn't matter how tall they are

At this point, Holmes gets on the field barely more than Vernon Gholston.

David Nelson had 4 catches for 80 yards including that clutch diving grab in his first game. Can't hate on that.

I don't expect Holmes to ever play again so it's whatever for me.

personally Holmes is "dead to me"

a leftover from the old quick fix period

I hope he just goes away and never plays again for the Jets

I don't care what kind of stats or BS he can get, he is a bad apple.

think Shockey / Manning for a recent example of a talented asshat who is better off not playing.

No hate at all. Nelson played well Sunday and made 2 really tough catches.

What I'm saying is that the WR core, outside of Kerley and Hill, is basically comprised of guys that are run-of-the-mill NFL players.

David Nelson hasn't played in over a year and admitted to reporters that he was totally gassed by the end of the NE game. Let's see how he fares this week. He could be a nice signing but realistically he is nothing more than a #3 receiver.

As for Cribbs, well he is what he is. I don't expect him to put up any 6 catch, 100 yard receiving games this year, do you?

    Campbell? C'mon.

agree with this and the way smith slings the ball around u have to wonder why we didn't make the WR position more of an urgency last april. oh well.

I don't think you can demote Hill here. Not only does that ruin his confidence, it takes away our best deep threat. Hill is improving, why would you mess with progression?
