Geno is like a really good desert but not an extremely great desert. He's custard but he's not chocolate mousse.
Not after today certainly. We're either going to live with him or die with him. With all of these no name players stepping in as above average starters in positions of need we're going to be able to fill in all of the gaps with our top few picks and FA next year and we'll go as far as Geno can take us. Outside shot for a real playoff run this year.
How much more trust can you put on a QB having to put the ball up on 3rd & 10(which Cumberland dropped) with the game on the line. If anything the play calling for lack of trust on the receivers. Kerley was the only dependable receiver on the roster today.
How would you know that? With that kind of accuracy and how Geno put up stupid numbers in college, if we get him a true #1 tall receiver, I can see MM open up the offense a bit. No coaching staff is stupid enough not to use that accuracy and arm strength. It's a great time to be a Jet fan. So much potential.
I am not sure you can say this. What's to say with big time weapons and experience he cant be great? I don't think its fair to say what he will be at this point.
Geno is really coming into his own, based on what I've seen he's clearly worth continuing on with this season and next. he's just a fantastic playmaker, has a good set of legs (that he doesn't use as a crutch) takes his mistakes and moves on with little to no effect on his over all psyche,holds his composure in clutch situations (less so today, but still) and isn't afraid to play deep. I do keep in mind this can all drop in a second, and by that I don't mean him having an off game but a terrible stretch of games, and should that happen he's at least earned the right to compete next year, but that possibility seems unlikely. I also acknowledge that he still makes a few unacceptable gaffs with his decision making, either taking too much time in the pocket or making a throw where a play isn't possible. also his drop backs need work. but these kind of blips will come in all kinds for a rookie. this guy has something to him, I don't think there should be a need to look forward, the future appears to be here now barring catastrophe. Not 100% sold on him, but its gonna take a lot for me not to be as the weeks go on.
Really? Do we need to keep brining up Sanchez? Let's also keep in mind that Marty is a FAR better OC than Sparano. He even runs the wildcat better. It's amazing that posters still rip on Schottenheimer but fail to mention Sparano. Last year I certainly missed Schotty as OC watching Sparano's play calls.
Again he made some great throws over and over again. The Pick 6 was a killer but Brady gave it back. Hill missed an opportunity for a big play but not coming back to the ball for a certain PI call if he didn't actually make the catch. Geno is someone we can mover forward with. The guy is a good passer, is very tough and has a short memory. Perfect guy to go forward with.
so that is only a huge improvement over what we have been used to as opposed to a monstrous improvement - I'll take it.
This was a big win for Geno and the Jets. He's still a work in progress but who can argue with 4 late lucky wins? He's either very clutch or very lucky and I don't think it matters which at this point.
It's unclear what we will get from week to week but if you break it down into two games segment Geno's play has improved markedly from the beginning of the year. That suggests that next week is likely to be better than what we have seen so far. BTW, some of the play calls drive me nuts but Marty Mornhinweg is a very good offensive coordinator. He's getting the most out of his offense right now.
This was almost that signature win you want to see. He looked outstanding in the first half but for the pick 6, he made some perfect throws. Slowed down the second half but those 2 runs were as important as some of his throws. He didn't win the game singlehandedly but he was a driving force in the win. A very very nice game. _
Humm? Let me try to understand how some of the experts on this site prognosticate Geno's future? Am I crazy or it seems that in general the outlook here went from Geno is not even close to been able to play in the NFL to "he will be a good QB but not a great one" All of this after 7 games and a 4-3 record hardly anyone predicted. Now I ask, how in the hell does anyone know that? How can someone predict he will not be great? Particularly in light of how incredibly fast he is picking up the game? I certainly don't have a clue if he is the long term answer or not, but I have been quite impressed with him so far, particularly with his demeanor and other qualities that IMHO make a QB great. Such as 1- His confidence, poise and quiet but strong leadership particularly under adversity.He does not get rattled when he makes a mistake, and he does not let the opposition get inside his head. 2- He is quite comfortable as the guy behind center, and he learns from his mistakes at an incredible fast pace. WITH AN AWESOME OC THAT CAN REALLY HELP HIM GROW. 3- He has an NFL arm and capable of making all the throws. I feel far more confident with him when he drops down to pass than I have felt since I don't remember when (Vinnie may be) 4- He seems to grow leaps and bounds as far as his chemistry with his receivers, non withstanding the lack of consistency in that area and really lack of A top, stud like talent that can help him compensate from his rookie mistakes. I would say with confidence that at this point with the low expectations many had of Geno, he has been nothing but a very pleasant surprise and albeit too early to tell, he is demonstrating the fiber needed to become a top notch QB in the NFL and perhaps the answer to our prayers. No doubt we have a long road ahead, but my gut tells me that if Geno matures at the current pace, with no major setback in his second year, and a draft that enriches our offensive weapons, the future could be brighter that we could ever have imagined when he was drafted in the second round. And the experts will once again come out of the woodwork and say, Geno, without a doubt, is the absolute steal Of the 2013 draft. Sure hope so
The biggest improvement that I really liked this week is he did start stepping up into the pocket some. I felt like in previous games he wasn't doing this when he needed to and it was leading to sacks off the edge for plays designed to nullify the edge rushes by pushing them well past the pocket (e.g. there was a PA last week that resulted in a sack where if he stepped up, he was probably safe). The other bonus is the sack doesn't result in such a large loss of yards.
