A set of terrible play calls followed by a 56 yard field goal attempt. What are your chances of making a 56-yard field goal? The chances of making any 50+ yard field goal are very very low. If you miss, and you most likely will, your opponent gets great field position in a sudden death OT game! The Jets D played well all game. Why not punt them into a corner? Well, he did miss. That crazy lucky penalty took all the attention off what was some terrible game losing coaching at the end.
Thats Marty, throwing with a few minutes left in the game instead of running and not throwing when they clearly have the line stacked. It doesnt matter tho, fact is we won. Now if we lost, there would be a lot more said of it.
Agreed, I didn't like the decision to kick a 56 yarder. I didn't mind the run play since Ivory was getting some good gains on NE that drive.
I was going to make a poll for dumbest coaching decision of the game. A) The playcalling that led to the 56 yrd FG attempt or B) The actual 56 yrd FG attempt The coaching from the Jets today was pitiful.
Folk hasn't missed all year and has made clutch kicks. I see no reason to not give him a shot, he has earned it. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
You'll never make a 56 yarded unless you try it. I thought punting there we would have lost. Look at the Pats last week, you give Brady enough turns and he burns you.
The end result was good with the penalty but I hated the call. It was a terrible call. I care much more about the process and making good decisions than the end result. Such a bad call. What are the odds of making that FG? 10-20% and if you miss they get the ball at the 46. Pretty much have to punt and put the game on the defenses back. All that being said I am glad it worked to our favor and we won. Rex is right we deserved a break.
SMH, I can't believe what I'm reading. The Pats have Brady and an excellent kicker (made 2 50+ FG's this season). The Pats would get the ball around mid-field . . . . . . . So you would like to just roll the dice like that?
Are you kidding me? What kind of Jet fan has the 56 year goal attempt on their mind after win like that? It's called going for it, which I'd much prefer over being conservative. He could make that and no one wants the ball in hands of Brady when a FG and he's a winner. Why this would be a topic after a win is beyond me.
This x's 100 You give brady the ball and all they need is a FG that game is almost as good as over. We got very lucky brady didn't pull magic off at the end of the regulation.
He isn't perfect from 56 though. That would have tied his career long. I didn't like kicking it there, but I understand wanting to end the game. I had no problem with the playcalling getting us to that point though
If we punted and the Patriots won, there would be outrage that we didn't let Folk kick it. He's been 16/16 on the year (well 15/15 at that point).
I didn't hate the call, I hated being in that position. I felt we outplayed the Pats all game. Having a 3 man rush instead of 4 man rush on many of the plays during the Pats game tying drive drove me mad. The play calls that set up the attempt pissed me off. Being in a position to win or lose the game on a lucky kick screwed with my mind. Having a call go our way against the Pats to win us the game was so sweet. I felt like the mountain has been climbed. It's a sign. The Pats are toast.
Are you freaking serious? LOL. THE FIELD GOAL PLAY WAS MARGINAL, BUT OVERALL A GREAT OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN. Fuck. Some Jet fans kill me. Did the NO fans screamed Payton sucks for his last set of calls AGAINST NE, where he run the ball 3 times with arguably the best passer in the league, and did not secure the first down? Yet the Jets were tearing down some pretty decent runs so why not continue with it? We have a rookie QB and a damned solid running game, so unlinked NO in that similar situation we played to our strength for a change. As Geno matures that of course will change particularly in crunch time.
56 yards really isn't that ridiculous. And at a certain point, you've got to stop giving the ball to Brady, no matter how great the D is playing. It was worth a try, I'd say, anyway.
Ya the play calling that led to that was hideous, but to go for the FG, I don't know, probably figured that was there shot, Folk hadn't missed all season prior.
The previous two plays before this had Rex written all over it, run the ball no matter what. Unfortunately, (or fortunately due to the outcome) they really should have attempted some passes here to keep the drive alive.
