Hey all, Just came back from Vegas and tried my hand at some live poker tournaments. While I didn't cash, I did play decent...the cards didn't cooperate. Was reading "Harrington on Hold 'Em" while I was there. Prior to the trip I had only played on Zynga free poker. I am interested in trying to play some online poker for $. I've read good things about Bovada. Anyone play there or have any other online experiences? Thanks, DBJ
Im quite good online poker player any doubt you can point it out , as long as its No limit hold em Cash/Sitngo/ Heads up or Omaha Cash/Heads up I dont play as often now a days but im in europe there for i use pokerstars and my overall profit is positive. Feel free to ask any doubts
you mean Hold em and Omaha ? difrent types to play poker. Plus Sit n Go is a tournament you gotta beat everybody to win , Heads up is poker 1 vs 1 and Cash its a table that you play for cash you dont need to defeat people just chips are real money.
Cool. Yeah, I am not too familiar with the lingo, I guess. Felt like I was reading a foreign language. Thanks.
Until it becomes completely legal online, it won't be trustworthy. Right most online poker gigs do not have any 3rd party auditing software, so these companies having their own employees cheat money is not entirely out of the question. I know Jersey is going to be allowing online gambling soon with the Atlantic City casinos. I used to play on full tilt, poker stars and even party poker back in the day. On FT & PS you could check people's stats. There were certain players that rarely lost, their win percentage was something like 80%, which is damn near impossible even if you're a great player. I observed many of these players at the table, and they were not great players by a long shot. They got incredibly lucky. These days I play occasionally on bovado (formerly bodog with a new location / owner). I still don't trust it, however and use the site more for sports betting. I can't wait until the AC casinos start up the online gambling. It will be much better because there will be a commission auditing their software to make sure it's fair and secure.
I've played on Bovada quite a bit. You can make some money if you play smart but like Barcs said, sometimes I get skeptical. Too often you get a hand like pocket Kings only to have the guy right next to you have pocket Aces or something like that. I know, I know, you only remember the bad hands, but I'm not one of those people. You get absurdly fucked over sometimes.
I used to play a ton of different sites (Party Poker, Poker Stars, Ultimate Bet, Absolute Poker, Bodog, Full Tilt, etc.), but it's all the same. I felt the same way when I played that there seemed to be too many ridiculous bad beats, but looking back, I think you have to factor in the time frame a lot more. You're playing probably 3 times as many hands at least in the time frame you'd play one hand of live poker. It speeds up the action so much that I'm not convinced the bad beats are really as common as everyone, including myself, always made them out to be. I see the benefit of a site toying with the percentages and randomness, but I feel like they would have to be stupid to really mess with it since people can typically track their hands if they really wanted to and present a long-term case against them. However, I'm also not naive enough to 100% believe what I just said haha. I'm skeptical, but do think it's mostly legitimate (that is, except for their money management after the Full Tilt BS).
I agree to an extent. I think they have less to gain by making things more questionable, especially considering it's legal in other countries and soon to be in the US. They'd be better served by targeting more clients than cheating with the game. But I certainly agree that it's difficult to trust entirely. I still think it's just a perception thing due to the speed of the games, though. At least that's what I tell myself! I remember when I first started Party Poker in college, and I was a firm believer that they wanted newcomers to stick around, so they threw them a bone. I got mixed up in a hand with 77, and just had a strong feeling from the way the other guy was betting that he had AA, but I'd been winning some lucky hands, and brashly tested out the concept. This was before chat was disabled on all-in's, so he pushed, I told him I knew he had AA but it's party poker, called the all-in, hit my 7, and let the guy unleash hell haha. Looking back, it wasn't a crazy amount of money ($100 on a $1/$2), but it also leads me to believe there's a LOT of people that play stupidly like that on a regular basis. It's all a game of percentages, and you'll find dumb hands sticking around a lot more often over the internet than in real life when you have to look the guy in the eye after the hand. I think that also adds to the feeling of cheating, when in reality, it's just stupidity.
