Will the Bucs cut Revis this offseason?

I think this is definitely a possibility. I think the Tampa management has quickly learned that paying Revis 16mil a year and giving up a 1st and a 3/4th is just bad business. While Revis has played pretty well, paying a CB that much money while running a zone scheme is stupid.

Now to the Jet related part of this equation, if Revis gets cut before the new league year, theyll give us a 4th rd pick instead of a 3rd. Their 3rd is gonna be extremely valuable this year, and will be extremely helpful in a year where the draft is deep in offensive weapons. That pick could potentially be the 1st or 2nd pick of round 3.

Do you think Tampa cuts their losses and realizes they shouldnt be paying such an absurd amount for a corner, while preserving their 3rd rd pick, or have they already invested heavily in Revis (1st rd pick) and prefer to see it through at least for 1 more year

I've said this from the beginning. I have the biggest feeling Revis signs back with us next year. We are going to have a lot of money to use and we desperately need our secondary back to where it was in previous years.

Revis also has now learned that he is a product of the Rex Ryan system. Rex plays a TON of man to man coverage and that's where Revis thrives.

Just imagine Revis healthy again paired with Cro and the front seven like it is now. Jesus

I'd love to have Revis back. But I don't think they'll cut him.

It depends on the General Manager. The bucs have quickly found themselves in the same position that the Jets were a year ago with Revis. Bad team, so why pay a guy 16 million if you are not going to win anyway.

Revis was never worth 16 million, he does not impact the game the same way a QB does or even a great pass rusher. He makes the game go from 11 on 11 to 10 on 10. It limits the offense but there is still 10 guys on the field that create an offense to take on the other 10 guys on the other side.

They will cut him or sign him to a new contract.

I'd love to see him come back, but it seems like Woody has something personal against Revis and/or his agents.

You cant rebuild by paying a corner 16 million. Bucs will realize that when they see just how quickly the Jets have fixed stuff. If the Bucs fire the GM and Coach then Revis is out.

Doesn't matter. Not like we pay him what he wants.

Yes, it certainly does, and at this point I doubt Revis would want to come back and play for Johnson.

Yea, it's called paying a corner $16mil. The next best corner in the league makes $8mil? It's called investing your money wisely.

By the way, who are these "great" secondaries in the NFL and what are their teams overall record?

Seatle is the best Secondary in the NFL and is 6-1.

I hope that he stays with the Bucs. It would be great if they fired Schiano and hired Lane Kiffin at HC. That would be the perfect Karma for the diva.

How much does Seattle's secondary make? How much do their corners make? $16mil or close?

    Is that correct?

I definitely can see Revis being released, and even thought it would happen when I saw the contract they gave him. They had the worst attendance in the NFL last season, and a bad pass defense. They added a "star" to put butts in seats that also filled a need. unfortunately they also have a coach that's not utilizing that player correctly.

That being said, I really doubt he comes home, but maybe this situation is an eye opener, and the Jets make an offer just over that 8mil mark (if that is the next highest corner salary), but the Dee Milliner investment makes that even less probable.

Although it would be sick with the way the D-line is playing now.....

I don't think there is any chance in the world they will cut him after only one season. Obviously, no cornerback is worth the money they are paying him. I'm sure they are well aware of that by now. But human nature dictates that people don't like to admit when they are wrong. They only ultimately do so begrudgingly, when they have no other choice. Cutting him after only one season would only serve to highlight how ridiculous of a contract they gave him (even if none of it was guaranteed). They will AT LEAST keep him for one more year, under his current contract. (As a classic example of this, consider that the Eagles waited two full seasons before cutting Nnamdi, and in addition to being egregiously overpaid, he was actually playing poorly).

The only way I see them cutting him after this year is if the GM that made the trade gets fired . . . then all bets are off.

I think it will depend on the GM change or coaching change in Tampa.

No rebuilding team should pay a corner 16 mil. I also don't see him signing with Jets.

I agree, and I think both Schiano and GM Mark Dominic are as good as gone. This season has just been a complete disaster for them. Their only chance may be if Glennon shows he can be a good QB and they reel off a few in a row to end the season
