The Jets’ Ring of Honor, launched in 2010, includes Weeb Ewbank, Winston Hill, Joe Klecko, Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, Joe Namath, Larry Grantham, Freeman McNeil, Gerry Philbin, Al Toon, Mark Gastineau, Wesley Walker, and newest member Marty Lyons. Which remaining Jets greats do you think deserve the honor to wear the green jacket next year? List of remaining possibilities in my opinion (in no particular order) WR Wayne Chrebet LB Mo Lewis CB Aaron Glenn DE Shaun Ellis CB James Hasty WR/KR Bruce Harper RB Matt Snell RB Emerson Boozer WR George Sauer TE Mickey Shuler C Kevin Mawae S Bill Baird P Pat Leahy I'm guessing they would induct 1 to 3 from this list into the Ring of Honor next year. My top personal choices would be: 1. Wayne Chrebet (the ultimate fan favorite) 2. Mickey Shuler ( best TE in Jets history) 3. I'm torn between Matt Snell (the true MVP of SB III) and Emerson Boozer (2nd in rushing TD's w/ 52) as my last choice. Which 1 to 3 players would you induct if the decision was up to you? Were there any players I missed as well?
Why does Woody always wear a white baseball cap? He looks like such a tool. This is a formal occasion. Don't cheapen it just because you don't want to show your bald head.
It's really not crazy at all. as a GM: -most playoff teams -most playoff wins -most road playoff wins -most title game apps He won't make it but it wouldn't be crazy. Somewhere down the road fans will have a greater appreciation for this era.
Mawae is a potential HOFer, at least a borderline candidate. Ellis was a long time Jet who has played the most playoff games in team history. Ellis is a lock, mawae may not make the ROH b/c he played half his career in other places.
In no particular order, I think these players are the ones who most deserve consideration: Kevin Mawae John Abraham Mo Lewis Shaun Ellis Pat Leahy George Sauer Ken O'Brien Mickey Shuler Jerome Barkum Emerson Boozer Matt Snell James Hasty Nick Mangold Dave Herman Randy Rasmussen Marvin Powell Jumbo Elliot Richie Anderson Jim Sweeney Lance Mehl Kyle Clifton Jeff Lageman John Riggins Other possibilities Art Powell - was a Titan but never a Jet Darrelle Revis - was not a Jet for very long Vinny Testaverde - was not a Jet for very long Keyshawn Johnson - was not a Jet for very long Dennis Byrd - could get in for reasons other than his play on the field ===================================== For those of you who thinks Wayne Cherbet belongs I have listed more than 20 other guys that deserve it more than he does.
Kevin Mawae- yes John Abraham- no Mo Lewis- yes Shaun Ellis- yes Pat Leahy- no but probably will b/c he kicked for us for so long even though he was mediocre at best George Sauer- maybe, didn't play long and kind of walked out on us, right? Ken O'Brien- no Mickey Shuler- maybe Jerome Barkum- no Emerson Boozer- maybe Matt Snell- maybe James Hasty- no Nick Mangold- on the right track Dave Herman- maybe Randy Rasmussen- probable Marvin Powell- deserves it but maybe Jumbo Elliot- no way Richie Anderson- no way Jim Sweeney- no Lance Mehl- no Kyle Clifton- no Jeff Lageman- no way John Riggins- no way Byrd's # is already retired Key will never get in Vinny probably not, not here long enough revis is best player in franchise history but contract issues and playing here for short time tell me no chance Powell- probably not Chrebet will make it b/c he is one of the most popular players in team history and while I think he is overrated I would put Wayne above a bunch of the guys you listed.
Kevin Mawae- yes he deserves it, not sure he will get it b/c he played half his career elsewhere. John Abraham- no, wasn't around long enough and was loft injured in big games Mo Lewis- yes, no brainer. best LB I have seen in NYJ history(I go back to early 80s) Shaun Ellis- yes, no brainer. longtime Jet, most playoff game splayed, leader of some good Ds Pat Leahy- no but probably will b/c he kicked for us for so long even though he was mediocre at best George Sauer- maybe, didn't play long and kind of walked out on us, right? Ken O'Brien- no, never even won a playoff game Mickey Shuler- maybe, best pass catching TE we have had since I started watching, did he play at a high enough level for long enough? only started 1 playoff year Jerome Barkum- no, longtime Jet but average player Emerson Boozer- maybe, before my time but is near top in NYJ rushing history Matt Snell- maybe- see Boozer James Hasty- no, excellent corner but didn't play here long, left on bad terms and was on bad teams Nick Mangold- on the right track Dave Herman- maybe, long time Jet on lone SB team Randy Rasmussen- probable, I think as a positional player he has played the most in NYJ history. started all of those years, that alone should get him in. Marvin Powell- deserves it but maybe, excellent LT but for some reason gets lost in NYJ history- probably best LT team has ever had. Jumbo Elliot- no way- only played a few years here, best years were w/ NYG. Richie Anderson- no way, played for a while here but was a backup most of that time. had some good moments but didn't start long enough Jim Sweeney- no, good C on mostly bad teams. Lance Mehl- no- excellent player but injuries killed his career, didn't do it long enough Kyle Clifton- no- very overrated guy, played on mostly bad teams where teams ran out the clock and accumulated a million tackles b/c of it. Jeff Lageman- no way, had a couple of good seasons for us, never even was part of a playoff win- only part of one playoff game. John Riggins- no way- didn't he quit on us? he's a redskin Byrd's # is already retired Key will never get in. if he stayed would have been one of best WRs in team history but only played 4 years here Vinny probably not, not here long enough, had best single season of any QB in NYJ history but only started 3 full years revis is best player in franchise history but contract issues and playing here for short time tell me no chance Powell- probably not, only played w/ franchise for 3 years in the era the Jets like to forget(except when they want to sell throwback items)
I doubt he makes it but if 20 years down the road we still haven't made a SB and we have a 70s or 90s type run he'll be looked at much more fondly.
You do realize that their career stats are almost identical? TOTAL 462 5,100 11.0 51 37 180 108 462 5100 11.0 37 51 2.6 28.3 158 136 326 4789 14.7 40 63 2.1 30.3 Barkum was on the roster for less games but started a higher percentage of them. Shuler had the edge in total yards but Barkum had more yards per game and scored 3 more TDs than Shuler.
Barkum started 136 games, Shuler 102 Barkum: 326, 4789, 40 TDs Shuler: 438, 4819, 37 TDs Shuler made 2 Pbs, Barkum 1 #s may be similar b/c barkum started many more games but Shuler was the better player. I don't think either one makes it but I'd give the edge to Mickey.
James Hasty was one of the best players on some horrible Jet teams and played seven of his thirteen years in Jet Green. He did make the pro bowl twice but not as a Jet. If Hasty doesn't belong in the ring of honor there aren't many guys that do. John Abraham made the pro bowl in three of his six years with the Jets. He also made one more in his 7.5 years with Atlanta. I agree that he is on the bubble but he was one of most talented Jets players I have seen in my lifetime. While not everyone I listed should or will get in to the ring of honor, some of the players you are discounting have a very good shot. Until recently, our team was pretty bad for long stretches of time and some of the unsung heroes who went for years without a playoff appearance may get in.
