So much doom and gloom on this board. How about the play of Sheldon Richardson thus far?

From our good friends over at ProFootballFocus:

Four weeks in it’s time that this race starts to shape up.

Guys benefiting from one performance are now being found out, while the cream of the crop rises to the top. Our clubhouse leader from Week 3 was the Carolina Panthers’ Star Loutulelei, but with his team on it’s bye week would this be the chance for someone to overtake him?

Or would the pressure get to his rookie peers and he be allowed to keep his spot?

    Let’s see.

    1. Sheldon Richardson, DE, Jets: +8.3

And there is! Richardson hasn’t wasted any time in making a big contribution to the Jets’ defense, pushing himself to fourth overall in our 3-4 defensive end rankings and amassing an impressive 10 defensive stops against the run already. What’s more, he added some pass rush to his game this week… he’s getting better.

He has def impressed, I was against the pick at first but I will gladly admit I was 100 % wrong on him ! I still do wish we took Kenny Vaccaro instead of Dee M. Lets hope he pans out as it can take a few years for a CB to prove himself in the NFL.

Anyone know the top 3? Curious if he's ahead of Wilkerson on these rankings. If he's not, having two players in the top 4? Wow.

EDIT: I checked the "refocused" page for the game against the Titans and read this:

I guess there's some inconsistencies, or maybe something changed in the MNF game. Either way, I'm impressed he's ahead of Wilkerson as of now.

I'll admit, at the time I said WTF when he was drafted given the JETS roster and other players on the board (Starr)...... but I'm happy to be wrong.

I was 100% against the draft pick when they called his name. The only positive thing I did say about him at the time was that he was the only guy that the Alabama offensive lineman admitted had a tough time blocking during their 2012 season.

Couldn't be more happy that I was dead wrong & will eat all the crow you can put on my plate.

You just might have to take some off for Dee Milliner when I wanted Chance Warmack at #9.

I don't really follow college ball much but when we took a D-lineman I was surprised. Happy with the pick though. Milliner not as happy right now

Let's let Milliner get some experience under his belt before we rate him. He's starting in a pass happy league coming off an injury and practically no off-season. He'll be a solid corner. I can see it

When we went DL again I was pissed, but he is a true monster and I hope Rookie Def Player of the year.

I'm with the majority here. Didn't like the pick at the time, was pissed we went defense with our two first rounders especially another DL. But definitely been more than happy with his contributions so far and think he's a real beast.

Biggest issue is I think we've made Coples less effective by pushing him to OLB and would have preferred to actually draft a pass rushing OLB but hopefully he adjusts and improves.

It's pretty understandable that we were pissed considering we just drafted Wilkerson and Coples. At the time we didn't really know about their plan to move Coples to OLB. I think now we're all happy about Richardson, and hopefully Coples improves as he gets healthier.

i thought richardson was a guy who flashed occasionally but wasnt going to be a really solid player from down to down. he has impressed me very much thus far.

Star Lotulelei was the guy i wanted, as i incorrectly assumed Richardson was a 3 technique and thus i never really looked into him.

Glad to see them both doing real well.
although Richardson seems a lot more versatile, and a very good fit with Rex.

would be incredible for him to get DROY after all the hate the 'experts' threw at the Jets.

I really liked the Milliner and Smith picks too, but it's clear they've got a lot more growing to do first. Hopefully they can sooner than later, as we really need them.

Was baffled by the pick at first but after watching one highlight video of this guy in college I knew he was going to be a really special player for us.

    Monday night against the falcons:

    1 sack
    2 tackles for a loss
    1 pass defended
    1 QB hit

this guy just keeps tearing it up.

And could have possibly caught a TD pass if Geno threw it to him instead
