No, the point is that the only way going for a 2 point conversion can expose the team to a greater potential of losing is when it fails. But the problem is that only happens because THEN the Falcons have to succeed at making a 2 point conversion to inflict that damage. Both teams are subject to similar percentages so you've entirely lost the thread of why you had a point in the first place. Now I'm done teaching you about math for the day, have a good one.
thanks for the math lesson and you are welcome for the football lesson. I would suggest looking for a math message board.
I tried to explain to you why the chart says what it says, they don't get created out of thin air believe it or not, big waste of my time I know. You gave me a football lesson about 0 things though so that doesn't quite count. Maybe you could try to teach everyone why Sanchez is the best QB in the world some more though no matter where I post. Keep up the good work.
As others have pointed out a TD and 2 FG's is not that hard to do on 3 drives, particularly in the 4th quarter with limited time on the 3rd drive.
Its getting to a point on this website that is bordering on bizarre. Im reading some posts going back and forth and this is what you come up with every time. Irrelevant? Irrelevant? One or two posts like this I would expect...but this site if filled with stuff like this. I can understand guys like JUNC making the arugment the other way...thats what this site is for...but irrelevant? What the f is going on here?
I understand the chart, you don't understand the game. Do you want to know what the chart looks like? http://www.theredzone.org/Features/TwoPointConversionChart.aspx does this chart account for anything human happening in the game? you have to have a feel for the game, a feel for your team. It's not black and white which is why so many coaches screw it up. ONCE AGAIN I have no problem going for 2 there but I preferred not to. I wouldn't have bashed him if he did go and I was happy he didn't.
So tell me Junc. what was going on in the game that you felt that the Jets should not go for 2 specifically after the Jet scored 6. No what happened afterwards, what did rex or U feel at the very second to make that decision. I am not being sarcastic, I can't figure what that could be. I respect you opinion.
For me I think 12 minutes is way too long, I also liked the way our O and D were playing and felt we could get a FG to end it(I wanted it on the previous possession). w/ 12 minutes left a team could get 3 or 4 possessions. How do we know they couldn't kick 2 FGs and score a TD? I would have loved to make it 28-14 but converting is hard and chances are it would have been 26-14. I don't have any issue attempting it but I preferred to kick it. I understand the chart but you have to have a feel for the game and my feel told me not to go for 2 at that moment. maybe I'm wrong? it's just the way I would approach it.
We had the Falcs dinking and dunking so I thought only 2 more possessions unless we turn it over and you don't coach with that in mind. In the end, they had the ball twice. I hope someone talks to rex because it would kill me to lose a game on this. I can't wait till Sunday, Steelers and Pats back to back at home. Oh boy!!!!!!!!!!1
so there is no actual chart and your argument is based on your own logic. gotcha. logic also dictates that if you go up by 13 points, rather than 12, you can't be beaten by a TD and 2 FG's, which there was plenty of time for Atlanta to accomplish. your logic ignores that FG's are actual parts of the game of which the points scored count, and says the only focus should be going up by denominations of 7 points. that is ridiculous logic.
It's not unheard of for Geno to turn the ball over, 12 minutes could easily be a 3 possessions for ATL. You could argue it both ways and be right, but it's a win.
I posted an actual chart genius. Do your homework. The chart says 12 you go for 2. When you do that is the debate but apologize for being wrong
3 possessions was a VERY feasible scenario when you consider your rookie QB was leading the league in turnovers leading up to this game
the chart is meaningless. one, it is Dick Vermeil's chart, which may be the starting point for how situations are considered, but isn't an absolute and has zero context. it doesn't state lead or deficit in conjunction with the time of the game. secondly, it ignores on basic element -- that is Vermeil's strategy. there is nothing scientific or unique about his conclusions that anybody couldn't figure out. if you lead by 5, go for two so you may be up by 7. what a breakthrough of sheer genius! the idea that all coaches must adhere to that breakdown as if it is absolute, just because he wrote, is ridiculous.
This was a clear mistake by Rex. He gets too caught up in his emotions during the game and I hate to say this, but I doubt he even considered the option of going for 2. He was pumped (rightfully so) that the offense had scored and we now had a 2 possession lead. I'm sure he didn't step back and actually think about the advantage of going up 28-14 instead of 27-14. Atlanta had been going on long drives all game. They weren't getting 3 possessions with 12 minutes to go. I'd give Rex the benefit of the doubt and say that he seriously mulled this over but his game management has been emotional/reactionary (see dumb challenges) all year so I can't
No youre wrong. HIS LOGIC doesn not IGNORE THAT THE FG is part of the game. The logic is the fact that it would take 3 possessions to score a TD and two FGs. And with 12 minutes left and the fact that the Jets get a pssession after each time teh falcons score, it is higly unlikely that the Falcons would have time to score three times. Which is exactly how it turned out by the way. Your entire post is nonsense
