Rex will find another job rather quickly imo. Where? The same place Darrelle Revis went. Rex will find himself on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a top 3 pick. He will end up with Clowney or Bridgewater to and be reunited with Revis who the Bucs spent a lot one (first round pick and all)
Herm went to the playoffs his first year with Testeverde starting all 16 games. Rex had much better over all talent than Herm every did. Rex collapsed a SB ready team in 2 years.
Fortunately John Idzik and not any of our hair trigger "Fire everybody" amateur GMs will decide and, hopefully, wisely decide to extend Coach Ryan for five years or more. Terrific HCs like Rex dont grow on trees
A SB ready team who missed playoffs the previous 2 seasons, and who were starting an unproven rookie at QB? for what its worth on Herm, he does deserve some credit. i would've liked to have seen more in game adjustments, and firing Hackett, but i have no axe to grind with Herm.
He did fire Hackett and that's what did him in. Rex getting away from the zone blocking and running the ball is going to do him in. The 08 team was on fire before Favre got hurt. The 09 and 10 teams were outright loaded except for the QB. Hackett sucked but he was the best OC the Jets have had in years.
Rex over achieved greatly in 09. And since when is it solely his job to replace talent on the team. You cant bitch that Sanchez is the worst QB in the league and then go on to say Rex should have won a superbowl with him. Rex took over an average Defense and made it number 1 in the league with 0 pass rush. Thats more him than the so called Superbowl talent we had.
Ok then let's wait till December before calling for his firing. in this rebuilding season, i think the coaching has been good thus far. The players are out playing with a renewed intensity, and many of the young guys are developing well. If the team continues that all season long, he will get the extension.
The 09 team had way above average talent on D, had the best OL in football, the best running game in football and great special teams. I guess you can say it's a complete coincidence that Rex took 2 teams built by Tannenbaum and Mangini to the playoffs and took 2 teams that he and Tannenbaum built together to two late seasons collapses.
lmao... i guess QB is not a key ingredient to winning a SB. How dare Rex not get it done in '09! and Hackett the best OC the Jets have had? the guy wouldn't allow the smartest QB in the league to audible. throw in your Tomlin firing theory, and i'll just take your ludicrous coaching thoughts with a grain of salt going forward..
I am by no means a Rex hater and I would like to see him remain as the Jets HC,he has learned from some of his mistakes and has gotten better in some areas but right now to call Rex a terrific head coach is a bit of an overstatement, terrific DC yes but by no means a terrific HC.
just giving you a hard time.. i remembered previous post exchanges where you were still pushing a pro Tangini agenda. Gholston aside, i thought Mangini's thorough approach to talent and character evaluations was his best attribute.
I agree the Bucs would be an ideal landing spot for Rex. He could make that defense great. With a 1st rd QB next year along with Martin and Jackson that team could be very good with Rex. What might keep Rex away for an extra year is that he has one more year on his salary in 2014. So if he is fired unless he settles that year with Woody he might take the money in 2014 and work TV for a double dip than come back in 2015. All that being said I would hate to see us lose Rex as our defense will always be good because of his presence. But we are looking at a very realistic 2-7. Outside of the Pitt game we are looking at being big underdogs every game until the bye and the Pitt game is a bad matchup for us being on a short week against a a very angry motivated team coming off a bye week. 2-7 or even 3-6 spells media frenzy to me like Sharks smelling blood in the water. the media will relentlessly build up the Rex firing stories.
I don't believe he would have to settle anything with Woody. if Woody fires him, he owes him his money regardless of whether he gets another head coaching job or not.
There may be offset which is often why you see coaches take a year off in the booth. I mentioned it because I thought I saw a recent article stating they felt Rex would take a media job to collect the extra years salary before returning to coaching suggesting there was an offset without specifically stating it.
People keep talking this hot seat / lame duck nonsense. Rex isn't changing his coaching philosophy regardless. Rex has every right to be upset about the turnovers. That's the one thing that's killed us more than anything the last 4+ years. Petty drama doesn't influence real football decisions. Over scrutinize and dramatize everything, it will get you nowhere. You don't see 75% of what goes on between coaches and players.
I thought Mangini was a bit of an A-Hole. I thought the 08 team that went on that tear and beat the Pats on Thursday night football was great before Favre went in the tank. I give Rex a ton of credit for riding that OL and D to a championship. But you can't ignore that the team went down hill talent wise. Now is that all Rex's fault, absolutely not. However the HC has to be deep in that mix. He isn't blameless for the condition of the team today. He was a big Sanchez supporter and he was giving Revis a blow job in public during his contract year every week. I actually like Rex but I still think he lacks the mentality and vision to be a great HC. The guy is a great D coordinator.
