Sticks and stones may break my bones but the policemens and insurance companies will make it all better.

You have a gang in a mob banging on your car with your wife and kids in the car. Stop trying to act like there was a rational way to talk your way out of this. Civilized people make sure no one is hurt, call an ambulance and the police. They don't start beating on your car.

You honestly think that the would just stop at destroying his car? I'm thinking that it would escalate. A reasonable person would assume it would escalate into bodily harm to the driver at least. Who knows what happens? They have the highway blocked off. How are the cops getting to the accident scene before the driver gets his face stomped in? The thugs have plenty of time and plenty of numbers.

The only dumb move Mr. Lien made was getting off the highway. Stay on the highway until the cops can catch up to you. Motorcycles, in addition to weighing a lot less, carry a lot less fuel. You won't outrun them, but you can run them out of gas- if you can't get the cops to respond to you.

Who's to say that it wouldn't have happened regardless of his actions?

Don't even try painting me with the same brush. I've included my original post above which called attention to you assuming the "dumbfuck" SUV guy PROBABLY did something to deserve his fate.

I had a problem with you assuming the SUV guy fucked up, and that it was "easy to deduce."

So don't try to red herring me with some project-and-deflect assumption claims of your own.

With your reasoning nothing could ever happen in this world because there would have to be a preceding incident.

Could their reasoning for starting this be that he did not pull to the side to let them take over the road? I guess in that case you could say the driver did do something, he drove legally down a road he was legally entitled to drive on, sound like reason enough for them to do what they did.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I have now heard that this was an open invitation ride that is doe annually, and they had bikes blocking entrances etc. The reason they had a issue with the Suv,is that he did nnot follow their rules by staying off the road.

Government shutdown means you can't report to your job licking envelopes for HUD so now you have plenty of time for us all of a sudden?

maybe it would have, but it hadn't happened to that point, and nothing has been stated that it was progressing to that point. if your position is dependent on making up a possible outcome and ignoring what was actually happening, that is a weak position.

what he should have done is just start running everyone off the road that was following him. if you are going to injure a couple of them in fear for your life, why would it be unwise or unjustified not to ram them all?

protect yourself and deal with the repercussions later. after he ran them over he was past the point of no return anyways. he should have had as much if not more reason to believe he was in physical danger as they chased him than when they were just beating on his car.

If you have reason to believe that your life might be in danger, you have the right to do whatever is necessary to take away that threat. You don't have to wait for your attacker to demonstrate his true intent. The opportunity to protect yourself and your family isn't something that you should pass up in the hopes that it will still be there later. If he had waited longer, who knows what had happened. More bikers might have joined the mob, making his escape more difficult and dangerous. They might have been able to pry a door open or break a window, leaving him little or no time to react to protect his family. Or maybe he didn't feel all that warm and fuzzy about trying to escape a mob of guys on sports bikes with all four of his tires slashed.

The biker made the decision to put himself in that position, knowing that the people inside that SUV might have felt scared and intimidated. Anyone who understands the concept of personal responsibility shouldn't feel the least bit bad about what happened to him. When somebody decides to use their own body as a blockade to an occupied SUV, while his buddies swarm and attack the SUV, it shouldn't surprise anyone what happened.

Because he didn't run them over because he was scared. He drove away because he was scared, and to do that he had to hit one of them. There were 30 bikers surrounding his car with knives. He honked about 3 times before driving away. He has absolutely no fault in this situation.

LOL-They blocked him in on a highway and were destroying his car. WTF is wrong with you? In a civilized society that is a progression beyond civil. By the way nobody was hurt during the getaway. What exactly did he do that deserved being pulled out of his car and attacked with a knife before being beaten to a pulp? That was a rhetorical question. He did nothing to instigate or deserve what happened. Suggesting that is another excuse for the thugs that did this.

fuck that, im glad lien got his ass kicked. thought that because he was in a car he couldn't get hurt after running people over and trying to flee. And fuck that, im glad the "bikers" got run over for trying to take over the road just because they were 40+ strong. not sorry. all involved get fined. NYC moves on. fellow new yorkers, take note, every action has a consequence.

Judging by their lawless behavior in this and other videos, it's perfectly reasonable to think it may have been arbitrary. It was a rolling pile of human garbage. They deserve no benefit of the doubt in any situation.

And maybe they would have brutally murdered the baby while the driver and his wife watched. Who knows? It would be beyond stupid to stick around to find out. The mob showed signs of aggression. At that point, the only reasonable reaction is to flee as quickly as possible, not sit around and wait to see how it turns out.

His only mistake was not immediately driving to a police station after fleeing the incredibly dangerous situation he was in. Anyone who thinks it's reasonable to sit there while a mob, armed with knives, attacks your vehicle containing your wife and small child and just wait until they are done and carry on is mentally retarded.

At what point to you think it would be OK to drive away? When they stab your wife for the second time?

why should he have gotten his ass kicked. what exactly did he do to deserve that? Do you even understand what is going on in that video?

He ran someone over with a Motor Vehicle, thats what. They on the other hand had not done any bodily harm to him at that point. He was just scared shitless. Maybe I'm wrong but thats how I see it. That video is just a sample of the whole incident.

Do you live in NYC? Have you been around when these "bikers" go out for their runs? Unfortunately, they momentarily run the streets while they are passing. As you saw, even the NYPD is powerless against the group as a whole. Most New Yorkers know what to do.

LOl,they brake checked him, surrounded him(taking away any clear escape route) and then came at his vehicle with knives, slashing tires. He had every right to do what he did. That guy in the hospital is all on the actions of his friends. You do not have the right to corner someone and their family and then attack him,or his vehicle. How was he supposed to know where it would stop?

And those bikers and their runs are both menacing and illegal. What they caused that day put every car on the road in danger that day.
