I still see this as a building year, but it could be a great year for the Jets overall. They still have a bunch of major weaknesses that need to be addressed. I see the Jets being even better next year b/c they'll have a lot of cap room to sign big name free agents and they'll have a lot draft picks. They could be a top team in 2014 and 2015.
This Smith iN Buttfumble OUT Makes 2013 a successful.season regardless of the remaining record IMO. And with 12 draft selections next May and between 40-50 M under the projected cap, John Idzik is already making a case for NFL Exec of the year As for the record, I'm hoping for 3-1 after today, then: BRING ON ATLANTA one game at a time
I have high hopes for this team, strictly from a coaching stand point, I think we do great things this year. Rex always has a top 10 defense, you blend that with an excellent OC like MM, I think we surprise a shit load of people this year. It will only get better in the future if we keep these coaches in tact moving forward. MM and David Lee = Best offseason moves That's my prediction.
Still way too early.. Lots of things that still have to fall in place till we get a clearer picture of where this team is at and what direction they want to go in 2014 (personnel, possibly coaching staff, etc.....though I personally don't want Ryan going anywhere). Turnovers are still an issue and special teams play (esp. in the 'return' game) needs serious improvement. Two RBs are currently out. Ivory showed what he can give you in NE (if he can ever stay on the field) and Goodson's not even played a down; would add yet another dimension to the offense. Very thin WR corp. Heaven help Geno if Holmes or Hill goes down. On defense, Coples has been out and is still settling into his hybrid role while Milliner's yet to settle in health-wise and otherwise, the development of Antonio Allen, etc.,... And of course, staying healthy since this team's roster is still being retooled and is not deep in a number of positions. If the Jets win today and beat the Steelers, could end up 8-8. Otherwise 6-8 wins imho.
this is not a good team or even close to it: - we have nothing at QB (maybe we will by the end of the season but I doubt it) - we have nothing much at RB - we have major issues along the line (and how many more years of Mangold and Brick?) - we have no good safeties - we have one decent CB Basically we have a good defensive line, some OK linebackers and that is about it.
I had the Jets and Steelers at 8-8...........Steelers are worse 5-11 probably. That being said I think fans here should be more objective about this team with a rooke QB. OL was worse than the QB and the defense just idn't show up. Hey......a loss on the road isn't the end of the world. Hopefully Geno learned fom today.
Obviously failing to get to 3-1 is a blow. Looking more like a seven win team than a nine win team this week.
I see this team winning no more than five games....which frankly is up a game or two from my original prediction. As everyone has said the defense will keep the team in a lot of games, but the offense is a train wreck. I think down the road, I see a bit of tension between the offense and defense, particularly Geno. He has to stop making bonehead mistakes. The defense is just working too hard to have him piss the ball away. I think has become Rex's nightmare come true. With his job on the line, the last thing he needs is a rookie who can't keep it together. I think Geno has all physical traits to be a good NFL quarterback. But he has to stop making critical mental and physical mistakes. As I told my wife, Idzik did Rex no favors. Draft a rookie QB and give him nothing to work with. A reliable running game would have made the learning curve a little less steep.
I like many here had pretty low expectations, and I still have. I've been holding off posting in this thread to see how things progress early on, but after 3 games I'm not seeing anything that says to me things are better than I thought they were, in fact I think the opposite, generally. We all know the D looks great, aside from maybe OLB, FS/SS and CB. This is the bedrock of our team now and for the foreseeable future. This is about the only positive. Which leaves the O.... oh god. Apart from the obvious problems at QB, (not going there as its being done to death in every other thread) we have not only a lack of genuine playmakers but also just general depth. The O-Line shows flashes of looking good/great then completely blow up, and its way too easy to just blame Vlad , we can't even bench him..... who comes in? Do not say Winters. Our HB stable is bare, we gave up a pick for an oft injured Ivory, how frustrating is he please?! Then we have Powell, what a great little player he is turning out to be. He's virtually carrying the load. I like Bohanan and wish he got more touches, particularly out in the flats, he seems to excel at that. At WR the cupboard is bare. One or two injuries and we are down to the scrubs. Why on earth Bray isn't back on the team is just gob-smacking. Is there anyone here who thought he wouldn't make the team? Cumberland doesn't have many fans, but I am one and for me , when asked he's always done his bit well, under used I think, as is Winslow but I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank. This year should be down to us having a really good hard look at what we have and what we need next draft and possibly the 2015 draft as well. Disagree that Rex is coaching for his job, but alot of these players are. I like the majority of the CS but am seriously worried about what has traditionally been a strong point for us, special teams, they have been woeful. If Geno keeps struggling at some point I would like to see Simms get some snaps. Sanchez kept on screwing up and knew it was HIS job so there was no pressure on him, please lets not make this mistake again. Our remaining schedule: Possibly winnable games, Steelers, Ravens, Raiders and Bills, the rest I think we most likely lose. So for me a 6-10 season and a top 10 pick...again
Deja-vu??? * Idzik isn't stupid, he knows we have little offensive talent and is hardly going to lambast Rex for not maikng something out of nothing. We did try and address the running game for the reason you said, but one can't stay healthy and the other has been playing smokey and the bandit.
