posting this so you don't have to click on it.

by this woman named Judy Battista.

a couple paragraphs in and I was like "oh cool finally a good mainstream article about the Jets"

then it turns into another Jet hating POS

so hard to be a fan right now. everytime anyone in the media talks about my team I want to reach out and slap them.

Even at 2-1 the media is just downplaying our wins and reaching to trash talk us. We will get no respect until we bang off some more wins. Let's keep it rolling. BEAT TENNESSEE.

A "cat dies in fire" will always sell more papers than a "cat saved from fire"

Sensationalist news will always over rule the "down the middle" sensible argument,

I looked in the standings for "escaping" but it was no where to be seen. Guess these two occasions must have been accidentally classed as "wins." Wonder how the Jets stack up in style points too?

The Jets don't win. Other teams play like shit or just suck. The Giants are likely to be 0-4 after this weekend. It's funny listening to ESPN radio these days because they hardly mention the Jets at all. The Jets just need to keep this train rolling and take care of business in Tennessee.

    I'm not sure how this

"having a 2-1 record and an offense and a defense ranked in the top 10 in the NFL."

    equates to this

"The Jets aren't winning right now so much as they are escaping. They are the NFL's equivalent of the kid who breaks the neighbor's window with a baseball but gets away before anybody can catch him."

    She's an idiot

I really didn't read that as a hater piece at all. She makes a valid point. We're 2-1 now and could, perhaps should, be 3-0. But equally it's not a big stretch to say we could be 0-3 either and perhaps should be 1-2. We're winning, but hardly putting games away and making the sort of mistakes that would, most of the time, cost you the game. But we have won despite those mistakes, there's positives as well as negatives in there. Lots to be pleased about, but be realistic too. This isn't a Cimini splurge attack or Mehta BS, it's just a bit over sensationalised.

Never understand these posts. We're 2-1 but should be 3-0 but we could be 0-3 and we might be 1-2 but it's possible that we are 1-1-1. How about....we're 2-1. Period. ALmost every team has close games, fantastic finishes. whacky calls, head scratching decisions, etc. etc.

Jusy Battista used to be the Jets beat reporter for the NY Times. She knows the organization pretty well. I thought the article was fairly well written.

Rex was very unhappy after the win because of all the penalties. The Jets *have* done a lot of escaping early on. Their ceiling at this point really is about 8 wins or so.

If Geno figures it all out faster than a rookie should be expected to then something really nice might happen, but that's where we are.

She once asked a dumb questions to spark the Jets 2002 season.

Now she writes dumb articles to do the same for 2013 season. Can't be mad.

The dumb question turned into one of the best exchanges I've ever seen on the realities of coaching an NFL (or any professional) franchise. That's exactly what a reporter is supposed to do: report on the reality of the sports they cover.

That moment was a lot like Jim Mora and PLAYOFFS? Professional coaches very rarely show us the side of the game that they live in day in and day out. Moments where they really open up and tell us what is going on are among the best they'll ever have.

It takes a good reporter to get them there because they really would rather just cover it all up and keep putting the good face on things.

BTW, the question Judy Battista asked of Herm after his 2-5 Jets had just lost to the Cleveland Browns was "Do you have to talk to your team about not giving up on the season?"

And what we got out of that was the best description I've ever seen of the mindset that an NFL head coach expects out of his players when the chips are down. No pablum about "How you play the game is important, win or lose". No deflection about how "players are professionals."

"You play to win the game! Hello!"

Here's a good writeup on it from the perspective of 10 years later:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...erm-edwards-play-win-game-225650424--nfl.html

Herm got home that night and his wife asked him "Were you yelling at Judy Battista?"

His reply "Oh Judy knew what I was doing."

Same article says that Judy didn't know if Herm had planned the rant for some point during the news conference or not to send a message to his team.

Wow talk about overanalyzing. While you're at it, I don't see it eye to eye with you. There really isn't anything special about what she asked Herm, nor does she deserve praise about the historic "you play to win the game" press conference which was only put on the map due to Herm's rant.

Coaches could choose to play down a stupid question and be long forgotten or overreact to a normal question and the reporter name be a part of a monumental pc for the life of the sport. Question asked to mora regarding the playoffs was a normal question that mora overreacted to.

By your logic, any reporter gutty enough to ask dumb questions to rub coaches the wrong way is a good reporter. Hardly true.

One might call her a good reporter but it certainly wasn't from that question to herm or this pos article.
