Or the famous 2011 collapses. Two weeks ago, this wasn't supposed to be a race at all, TB and Texas didn't have to do much to make the playoffs. Fernandez yesterday got extremely lucky. Bunch of hard hit balls caught in the gaps, and then he threw wildly to second on a grounder to him with runner on first and no out. The middle infielder had to leap well off the base to catch it, but the ump blew the call. Fernandez then homered later in the game and showboated Barry Bonds-style (standing there watching it). The Braves didn't appreciate it.
players I lost this season in one NL-Only league to injury, suspension, or shut down- Braun W. Rodriguez Slowey Bastardo Hefner Ozuna Grandal Beachy Mejia Harvey J. Fernandez I also dropped Niese when he went on the DL because I had other guys taking up my DL spots and I did not want to waste a roster spot. I also lost Grilli for a large chunk of time. 10-team league my team is #1 in overall record right now playoffs start Monday- look at my playoff rotation- Locke, Roark, Thornburg, Petit, Bailey, Bettis, Harang
I'm holding out hope that the Royals can somehow steal one of those two WC spots. After the big win tonight over the TRibe they're only 2 1/2 out. It's very possible, 2 more with Cleveland and 3 with the Rangers but then 7 games between the Mariners and White Sox. I think it's safe to say KC' season could either be made or broken in the next 5 games.
The NL Central is the only division left to be decided. Boston, Detroit, Oakland, Atlanta, and LA have theirs. NL wild cards will be the two NL Central teams that don't win the division. AL wild cards still very much up in the air. Six teams within 2.5 games of the two spots.
Grilli on for the Pirates, if things hodl up I believe they clinch a playoff spot. The Nats are losing 4-2 in St Louis. I believe the Redlegs can clinch tonight as well with a win and Nats loss.
Raise the Jolly Roger and bust out the Sister Sledge but the Pirates have made the playoffs....... never thought I'd see it again in my lifetime.
I've never heard of Sister Sledge http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/23825097/orioles-manny-machado-diagnosed Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a torn medial patella tendon ligament in his left knee, per GM Dan Duquette (source: Eduardo A. Encina via Twitter). That likely means Machado will be laid up for six to eight weeks before he can undertake light running. Obviously, he should be ready for the start of the 2014 season, barring setback. The good news, of course, is that Machado's ACL was not damaged.
I guess we're just old stat....lol Sister Sledge was the Funk Group that made the slogan on this shirt famous Looking like the AL is close to getting wrapped up WC Wise...Yankees and Royals both lose all but taking them out. 3 teams 2 places. Texas, Indians and Rays. I feel really bad because I don't think I can name more than 3 players on the Indians roster...... lemme see....Kazmir, Kipnis, Brantley, Giambalco, Gomez, Bourn and Carlos Santana.... that's 7. Awesome for me!!!!
oh I did hear of the 'we are family' pirates, but I didn't know the origin. I follow too much baseball. Indians: Giambi, Santana, Kazmir, Kipnis, Asdrubal Cabrera, Mike Aviles, Brantley, Bourn, Ubaldo Jimenez, Zach McAllister, Nick Swisher, Yan Gomes, Drew Stubbs, ok I ran out I don't know any of their relievers. I know one all too well...Chris Perez probably is going to cost me the fantasy baseball title here
Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati today, clinching homefield in the NL wild card game. Both teams will be using scrubs on Sunday. The only race still going is the AL wild card, between Texas, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland. Oh, and St. Louis and Atlanta are battling for the top spot in the NL.
