I'm still at 5 to 8 wins. Not going to get too high over beating another bad Bills secondary like a drum. We went 5-10 after doing that last season. There are some things that have changed a bit though since the start of the season. 1. The Steelers look bad. Doesn't mean they will be bad against the Jets but that game no longer looks like a likely loss. 2. The Falcons are banged up with Steven Jackson hurting, Roddy White on a week by week basis and even Julio Jones a bit tweaked. I think the Jets could go into Atlanta and win that game. I don't expect them to do that but it's now a reasonable possibility. It's not unreasonable to think the Jets might be 4-2 going into the second New England game. Obviously if they do that and find a way to win that game also we've got a whole new ballgame on our hands.
Being that we really should be 3-0 if the offense woulda been able to get it together. If the defense stays healthy the whole way i still say what i said in preseason 9-7 10-6
I don't think the penalties will be that much of a continuing problem. The referees might have been seeking revenge against the Jets because Willie Colon punched a referee in Week 2; it could be an unofficial way for the officials to send the message: "don't touch us or it's going to cost you much more than a fine." Of course, many of the calls were legitimate, but there were some very big calls that were very wrong so I can't help but wonder. Rex Ryan's defenses are well-coached so I don't expect it to be an ongoing problem. MM, I'm very surprised that he called a game with that kind of pass/run ratio, but it's great that he is willing to do whatever works in a particular game and worry more about that than the ratio. It's definitely too early to tell how the season will go, but I don't think 8 or 9 wins is unrealistic. If they can beat the Titans or the Falcons, and then the unexpectedly weak Steelers (go 2-1 among those games), they'll be 4-2 heading into a tough stretch of games against the Patriots, Bengals, (then the bye week) and then the Saints. If they can pull off an upset against just one of those teams, they'll be 5-4 with 7 games left on the schedule. If the Jets can beat the Bills, Ravens, or Dolphins, they'll be 6-6 (seems likely that they'll get at least 1 win there since I think the Jets are better than the Bills.) The last 4 games are against the Raiders, Panthers, Browns, and Dolphins. Right now it looks like the Dolphins are good, but the other 3 teams are very bad (maybe bottom-6 teams), so I think winning 3 of those 4 games is realistic. That would bring the Jets up to 9-7. I'm not saying it'll play out that way, but at this point I think it's a realistic possibility. The next 3 weeks will be very telling. If the Jets are able to get 2 wins in that span, things will be looking very bright.
That never occurred to me and I feel like a dope for it. Definitely, many of the calls were warranted. But it definitely seemed like there was a real effort to make calls on the Jets. Very good observation, ig edit: oh man please accept my apologies. I had a nice long post drafted and tapatalk clipped it
The circumstances of the Falcons game may be tougher than the actual matchup is. Monday night, on the road in a loud dome. On paper, the Falcons D is pretty mediocre. And they don't have a gret running game to begin with, so it's likely we can completely snuff it out. That puts the game squarely on the shoulders of Ryan, who is very good. But it's worth noting that in his only other appearance against Rex's D (2009), he had a miserable outing.
I had us at 6-10 this season with Sanchez starting. The only thing that's changed for me is that I've got hope whereas before I didn't have any.
The game against the Bills gave me confidence that Rex Ryan will not be fired this year; we will do well enough to prevent that and, honestly, that is one of the only things I cared about coming into this season.
I had us in the 6 wins to 8 wins range. I think right now they are on pace to hit that comfortably, but remember last year we beat a Bills team with an offensive showcase, beat a FL team in an ugly game neither team wanted, and lost a close game to a better team in our first three too I think so far the Jets have done a good job taking the easier games on their schedule. They need to do well this Sunday to set up for the tough part of the schedule of @ ATL, vs PITT, vs NE, @Cin, vs NO. While Pitt has looked bad this season, their a team you can't underestimate or overlook.
I had us pegged for 4 maybe 5 wins. I really didn't think the DLine would take this big a step, I knew they would be really good eventually not this fast, and the LB's have surprised. I have upped my expectation to 7 wins. We still have a lot of weaknesses, some tough games and a rookie QB who will make some mistakes.
I had us at 500 + or - one game. We're on track for that but if Geno keeps developing at a good rate we could be at the upper end of that equation or beyond it.
I have been pleasantly surprised. The defense has played well, especially the front seven. Geno has shown more poise than I expected, and takes the blame for his mistakes. Go Jets!
it hasnt changed at all, other then it looks now like sanchez will play 0 games when before it was 50/50 he might play some. with sanchez i predicted 2-14. with geno i predicted 4-12. right now i still think we win 4 maybe 5 games. we beat 2 garbage teams with awful qbs. there are some real tests coming up the next 5 weeks
I was one of the optimists going in, and I'm happy to say I feel cautiously good about this season. My logic was simple, last year was 6-10. Geno can't do worse than Sanchez did last year. Holmes is back. Hill had a disastrous rookie year, but look at every ESPN report on his draft stock it'll say "raw. Huge potential. Needs time." Ivory's an upgrade on green. Willie Colon was a HUGE grab, and the biggest problem with our D was speed and althleticism. Davis is an upgrade over a shell of what Scott was. Barnes is an upgrade over Pace (although for some reason Pace is still getting all the snaps). I thought Ellis would take over for Pouha, but Snacks is also an upgrade, and Richardson's an upgrade over McIntyre. The big question marks were how long is it going to take for the young players to come together, and would Geno be a disaster. I guessed 6-10 as a floor 9-7 as a cieling. Im still a little uneasy about Milliner, and I'm not 100% on Geno just yet. But nobody looks BAD, and a lot of people who were questionable going in ( Hill, Allen, Davis, Richardson, Ducasse) look really damn good. I'm going 8-8 as a floor 10-6 as a ceiling
I didn't think we would win 3 games. I thought geno smith was an awful pick. Now, I know sanchez will never take another snap as jets qb. I was wrong about smith. The defense is better than I thought they could be. I know think jets win 8 games.
Not upgrading yet I originally predicted 7-9 wins and I'm sticking with that for now. I haven't seen enough yet to upgrade my prediction, although I'm leaning towards an upgrade to 8-10 wins.
@Tennessee @Atlanta Split these 2 and get to 3-2 vs. Pittsburgh Beat what looks like a bad Steelers team in your building and get to 4-2 vs. Patriots Huge game early in the season in our building. If the Jets can get to 4-2 going into the New England game, then beat New England, the Jets would be in position for a run at the playoffs in my opinion. Obviously they have to get there first though.
Last year with a terrible offense we won 6 games. Seriously, why did some of you predicted less than 6 games anyway I was expecting 7 to 9 wins and I will stick with that.
I want them to be in the playoff hunt down to Week 17. Of course I'd like them to make it, but I wouldn't be too upset to barely miss the playoffs with a team this young because of the promise they would presumably show to even be in the hunt. The difficult stretch (@Falcons, Steelers, Patriots, @Bengals, Saints) doesn't look nearly as taxing as it did a month ago. 3-2 is on the table. If they are even 5-4 going into the bye, a wild card spot (division championship? Have to beat the Patriots first) could come down to the later match ups against the Dolphins.
