I like to have fun with my mocks and this one will be no different, it will include a trade. it is very early on in the season and I will probably make a few of these as the year goes, so let's get started.

01: MIKE EVANS (WR, TEXAS A&M)
    - I expect us to pick somewhere in between 8-12 this season. and as of now Evans is looking like the real deal, he is only a sophomore but he will be eligible for the draft. he isn't the fastest receiver in the draft but he's a big body with superb hands. our offense is in dire need of skill players and addressing our receiving corps should be top priority.

TRADE: the Jets trade back into the first round with a team like the 49ers who like to rack up picks. the Jets and Niners switch places in the second round and the Jets give up a pick to be named later on in the 2015 draft.

01: KYLE VAN NOY (OLB, BYU)
    - Van Noy is one of my favorite defensive prospects coming out in the draft. he is a senior, so he has the experience and I believe he is NFL ready. Van Noy is a linebacker who will constantly put pressure on opposing QB's, he's very shifty and is stout in coverage. OLB is a huge concern for us and is another position of need that needs to be addressed early on.

02: GABE JACKSON (G, MISSISSIPPI STATE)
    - Jackson is a polished senior guard. as of right now we have Ducasse (who has been playing better) and Colon who has had injury problems. Jackson is a young bull that would keep Geno upright and would also help immensely in the running department. I know we went OLine heavy in the last draft but I believe Gabe Jackson to be the real deal.

03 [from TB]: DAVID YANKEY (OT, STANFORD)
    - another OLine pick. Yankey primarily played LT at Stanford but he would play RT for us. Austin Howard is just too much of a liability. Yankey is a big 6'5 300+, athletic OT. it may seem like a boring pick, but we are going to need the OLine to hold up if Geno continues to hold onto the ball for an extended period of time.

    03: VINNIE SUNSERI (S, ALABAMA)
    - Dawan Landry isn't getting any younger and we need our secondary to be explosive playmakers and that's what Sunseri is. he's having a great start to his season and is exceptional against run defense. he also has a nice burst to the ball. his return against A&M was beautiful.

04: NICK O'LEARY (TE, FLORIDA STATE)
    - I like the way O'Leary plays. he's a versatile TE who could also play HB if needed. he's on his way to have a breakout season. he's a bit light for a TE, but that's nothing the weight room won't fix.

    05: SILAS REDD (RB, USC)
    - Idzik strongly believes in competition and I believe Redd can compete for the starting job. he has the speed and burst that Powell lacks and Ivory would be an excellent compliment to him. he's a senior so he also has the experience, running behind our improved OLine will bring back the ground and pound we missed.

06: T.J. JONES (WR, NOTRE DAME)
    - can't hurt to add more offensive weapons. as an ND fan I've had the pleasure to watch him play weekly. his season is off to a great start and I expect it only to get better. he is ND's top receiver and I could even seem him as a punt/kick returner for us with his amazing speed.

07: ANDREW MILLER (C, VIRGINIA TECH)
    - more OLine depth. he excels in run blocking.

First, I'm not sure what your trade means. If we're swapping picks in the second, what are we giving them for their 1st? Is the 2015 pick a 1st?

Second, I will be pissed if we spend our 2nd on a OL. Ducasse is finally playing well, and Mangold/Brick/Howard look to be long-term pieces. I don't know how much more NFL ready a second round guard would be over a guy like Winters. In this scenario I definitely go BPA with preference between TE/S.

Mike Evans is a good pick, although I prefer Watkins and Lee. They fit the WCO better IMO.

Im not actually opposed to trading future picks, but i doubt Idzik is that kind of GM. Also with the possibility that we are likely to pick up a number of comp picks and also the Revis pick, i doubt we pick up another pick with there being so few roster spots.

I like Mike Evans alot and by April he might very well be the #1 WR in the draft. I would be PISSED if we just kept on choosing O-lineman we need playmakers Ducasse is solid at this point, Colon is solid and should be resigned on the cheap and we also have Aboushi, Campbell, and Winters. I really doubt we choose 2 in the first 3 rounds, let them develop. Nice Sunseri pick i see him rising he's playing really well.

Colon's getting old and has an injury history. Stopgap. Another O-lineman would be good for this team. They should be drafting for 2 years down the road

agree - we went heavy last year in OL (guard) and we still may have to get heavy there next year as well.......

instead of guard i expect at least 1, if not 2 OT's next draft. those comp picks should come in handy. with the revis pick and a comp pick, pretty sure we'll take OT in rounds 3 and 4.

sorry about the confusion. the Niners trade out of the first and we swap seconds with them.

I get that, but we only have one second round pick. At the moment, you're saying we're dealing:

    Niners 1st
    Niners 2nd

    FOR

    Jets 2nd
    Pick to be named

Even if we do a 2015 first (which I wouldn't want to do), I doubt San Fran would push their 1st round pick back a year only to get a swap of 2nds. They don't even add any picks here.

    QDR....

I like the positions you addressed. I believe most are in agreement WR & OLB are 2 critical positions that need to be in play early next April.

I almost drafted Anthony Barr as my 1st Rd pick, he would be a great addition to the Jet's, it would be one of the NFL's top front 7.

I also would like to get a play making TE early and there are going to be possibly 5 TEs that will be worth of a pick in the top 64.

I had Evans in my recent Mock in Rd 1 and he didn't disappoint this past week. Evans is play maker that gets YAC, not the physical freak like Watkins, but he has NFL attributes to be very successful.

I almost put Vinnie Sunseri in my mock, a smart player that can be a leader in the secondary.

Overall nice job, even though I'm not a fan of trades in mocks, especially in rd 1.

Colon is 30 pretty much the same age as Brick and Mangold(both 29), u draft for depth in the later rounds as we did last year already with 3 O-lineman. Whats the point of drafting them if you dont give them a year or 2 to develop again we need playmakers. Ducasse has been playing very well, and held Vince Wilfork in check that whole game.

  11. Nice job..

I'm all for improving depth at OT..but I don't agree w/ the "liability" label for Howard. He's developed nicely & as solely RT types go..he's about as good as it gets league wide.

Completely agree with you Kurt, I was going to post just this. OP, can you explain why you believe Howard is such a liability? Im no expert but to me he has been one of the bright spots on the line, and you barely ever hear his name on the telecasts, which is a good thing.

Is it maybe because hes Austin Howard, a guy we basically never heard of until he filled in for Wayne Hunter? Maybe hes developed into a solid player, and RT isnt as dire a position of need as it was before? Id love to read some input from fellow posters

Howard's more than serviceable. He's not Damien Woody in his prime but Howard's fine. With the salary cap, it's difficult to pay Pro Bowlers at every offensive line position, especially long term. As long as Howard continues to play at least average ball and isn't a liability, the Jets will be fine.
