Sen. Lindsey Graham to seek authorization for U.S. attack on Iran

Good to know that we are waging wars in Israel's behalf.

    ^^^Huh?

I get the point he is trying to make, because there isn't an actual "use of force" authorization on Iran and he wants us to flex, but...huh?

First off, when are people going to realize that Israel doesn't really need our help? I am longtime friends with two Israeli families, among them Mossad, and I assure you they can handle shit just fine on their own. They have near-equal conventional weapons capabilities as us, they have, in my opinion, superior intelligence services, and they have nukes - they're fine. To me, Israel is that good buddy that whenever you hang out with him you know he's gonna want to go to a place where there's a good chance there's gonna be a bar-fight. Sometimes he's in it, sometimes he's not. Sometimes he had a few too many and it was his fault. Sometimes it wasn't. Maybe he's just one of those guys that people like to mix it up with at 2am. But when the confrontation starts, you're the guy who tries to talk it down, maybe gets in between, maybe tries to break it up, or maybe just lets your buddy have at it (because he actually can and will knock someone out at 2am). But what you normally don't do, is shoot the guy in the head who's messing with your buddy before the first shove is thrown.

And second...how the hell do these people get elected (or consistently re-elected for 20 years)?? Does he really think anyone would vote for this? Is this what these guys do all day? Sit on the House and Senate floor offering up un-passable stupid? We need a better screening test for candidates for Congress. You should need to demonstrate some skill beyond convincing idiots that you're the smartest idiot in the room.

That's the thing. I have also known a number of Israelis, and they are great people. It's not the people that need to be demonized.

The control their government has exacted over the Palestinians is shameful and hypocritical. Why they have the support from our government is a huge question that is never asked.

Mainly because of who runs 90% of the media in this country.

I don't think it's that sinister, I just think they are our friends, and we support our friends, even sometimes when we probably know in the back of our minds they are doing something really goddamn stupid.

After Obama's Cairo speech in '09 he actually had a window of goodwill; it was small, but he had a chance to re-open the negotiations. What he needed was a little bit of give from the Israelis on the settlement issue to jump-start a real dialogue - one that hadn't been possible since Sharon. Netanyahu told him in the most diplomatic way possible to go fuck himself, and the rest is pretty much where we are today on that issue - nowhere.

You can stand by your friends but you can't always save them from themselves.

    That's where we differ here.

You think the US president is someone that wields power, and has influence. Instead of being at the end of the strings of the real masters.

What true masters? I also believe there are some factors impacting White House policies but saying there are masters shaping the US politics and ordering President to follow suit is a little extreme.

Yeah I second Brooklyn - who are the masters then?

I'm not naive enough to think that Presidents don't submit to captains of industry etc. on (more than I'd like) occasion, but I'm pretty sure there's no Sinister Six running the world if that's where you're headed with this...

Hey look, you formed a complete sentence in English.

It's strange how you only form broken English sentences in the Jets forum.

The true masters are the ones controlling our money. The ones enslaving Americans in the name of credit.

The US needs to follow the example of Hungary and expel the Rothschild-controlled Federal Reserve from this country.

    But it will never happen.

Well, in that case, it's J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, BOA, Morgan Stanley, and...well, George Soros or Peter Schiff, depending upon your leaning...

    Yeah, that's six.

Six seems to be a prevailing theme. I wonder where that last six will come from.

Okay. I thought you mentioned something like Gladio which was a little more towards conspiracy theory. I assume you already know what Gladio means but here is a link in case some others might be interested in what it was. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gladio)

Regarding financial institutions, I agree with you 100%. They have way too much power in this country and not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing for US. On one hand they control the world financial policies and making sure USA is always taken care of, on the other hand they impact some policies which is undermining middle class.

    That is another discussion.

I have read things about Operation Gladio in the past, and would enjoy the specific parallels that you think my argument has to that operation.

This is a Middle East thing.

In Turkey, when I was growing up, there was one common belief that USA was controlling our government. And these conspiracy theorists were using Gladio to support their thesis. It was very common to hear statements like "Nothing in Turkey can happen without the approval of USA or Forces behind the curtain who governs Turkey".

Take Turkey out and put Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait in above statement. Sentence will still make sense in those countries.

I initially thought you were referring those behind the curtain forces as well.

Yeah most of that is kind of freaky, but it's not totally unexpected. Every one of those companies is basically an American icon, and when there is pure, unadulterated, unregulated capitalism in an industry, where the weak get absorbed and the strong grow larger with no one interfering, three to six companies is about the number you end up with - after that they tend to just be stealing from each other. It's the same with car makers, banks, cell phone providers, cell-phone manufacturers, etc...

But we live in the information age, where if you want to put the effort into learning ANYTHING you can do it - the key being it takes a little more effort. There's a very simple way around the "mainstream media" (and, equally as damaging, the "alternative to mainstream media") bias - it's called do a little homework!

I love the fact that Disney's media business is so goddamn big that they can afford to make an Avengers movie with a $300 million budget. I'm happy to support great media. I just have learned to compartmentalize "media" and "news." If I want "media," I watch 10 minutes of one story form one vantage point and then call that truth. If I want "news" then I have to cross-reference reports from all of them, and from none of them, and form my own opinion.

The fact that no one wants to get outside information - in the first age in the history of Earth where anyone can have access to any and all information - is not my problem, but I'm not gonna blame NBC for it.

This whole attack Iran thing is ridiculous. For starters their new president seems to be looking to establish relations with the West with the approval of Khomeni. Why?Because the sanctions are actually working and Iran's nuke plans are sputtering. The question of why idiots like Graham continue to get elected is simple.......he has a big R next to his name and he is from the south. It's the same with dopes in SoCal and democrats. People vote for party and not candidate, until that changes the same morons will keep going to Washington.

Not that Turkey will ever attack Syria on its own but today Turkish Parliment accepted a resolution allowing Turkish Army to attack Syria if need be.

PBS will debut the second part of it's Frontline coverage of Syria next Tuesday, interviewing Syrian rebels who explain how the US is covertly arming them.

My friend, black hawk pilot, got married in Austin, Tx about a month ago. While there I met some of his friends including an army green beret officer. He was "gung-ho" about Syria. After listening for awhile about his interests in fighting there I asked him who were the "good guys?" This is an issue that has been discussed at length on here as well as in the media. It seems no one is really sure..?

The U.S. is probably supporting the rebels with arms and other medical/food aid; maybe financial. But, these men are Al Qaeda and enemies of our country. The only reason why we support an enemy is to fight an even bigger enemy in Russia. Something like better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Syria is FUBAR mess. At this point there is no side worth banding with, especially after recently leading wars in Iraq, Afghan and Libya; and with n. Korea banging drums, problems with Venezuela and drug lords in Mexico. At this point, in Syria, it is better to let them kill each other; isolate their battlefield and hope it's mostly "evil" people heading to early graves.
