Why not develop talent in house instead of overpaying for injury prone WRs? Maclin - ACL tear Boldin - old Cruz - resigned to Giants Nicks - Injury prone We need to start drafting blue chip talent. Use the cash to resign good players. We have a crap ton of picks. We can restock this roster next off season. Only FA I would target is Jimmy Graham.
LOL Just read a mock draft that has the Jets taking an OLB in the first. I'd cry. Actually, it seems like everyone thinks we'll go after Anthony Barr.
I expect the Jets to be looking at second-tier free agents who are 24 to 26, maybe 27 at the outside and have big potential upside but with questions also which is why their teams did not re-sign them and let them hit the market. They'll probably be willing to sign free agents who were not cuts this time around. That'll make the quality significantly better than what they signed this year. Guys who might be in that market area include Jeremy Maclin, Kenny Britt and Brandon Spikes. John Idzik was willing to give a 4th round pick for Chris Ivory so it's reasonable to think he might make an offer for another tendered player next year and then try to bargain the compensation pick down some.
It would still be nice to get a decent WR through free agency who could help shore up the receiving corps. Hopefully we can trade down in the first round and get some promising WRs and a TE.
Sorry- I worded that terribly. I meant we can trade our other 4ths and 5ths.etc because we have comp picks to replace them.
100% percent on board with this. I don't think the Saints would let him go, but he would be my #1 priority this off-season.
well nice to see we aren't up against the cap ledge in the near term future. what a change. when was the last time we had this much potential space??
I'd vote for another defense heavy draft in the first 3 rounds, especially if we can get a top OLB #1, a top Safety #2, and Harris' future replacement in round 3. Rex would have the youngest most talented top defense in the NFL for the next ? years, plus it'd give Idzik another season to see how his young offense develops. Yes, grab a top offensive FA WR, but beyond that let Geno develop, let the O-line gel, and let Ivory/Powell establish a good running game. 2015 and beyond it can be all offense to compliment the nations #1 defense.
You are crazy to even think about having ANOTHER defensive heavy draft. 3 defensive players in the first 3 rounds? AYFKM? What young talent on offense? This draft needs to be offense heavy first 3 rounds not defense. We have the 2nd ranked defense and the 25th best offense. If we want to win a SB, we need both sides of the ball to be around the top ten.
Maybe we should just punt om first down and keep our defense out there... We'd have a better shot at scoring on defense. And Geno, a QB that has a chance to be pretty good? Yeah, he'd be run out of town and we'd have no QB to go along with no talent on offense. Love it!!! If we dont have an offense heavy draft, this is is in rebuild mode for the next 3-4 years if we are lucky.
I hope every pick in next year's draft is on offense. Well dedicate 2 picks one for a safety the other for a linebacker. 2 WRs, 2 TEs, 1 guard and a tackle to start things off.
You don't have an offensive or defensive heavy draft strategy. That is just stupid. If the offensive player available is a better pick than the defensive player you pick the offensive player. But to say you are going to draft offensive regardless of the value if the player at that draft position is dumb dumb dumb.
I agree imo you cant go wrong in draft the best player avaliable every time but im sure there is plenty of offensive talent so if its kinda tied you go for offensive in a team like ours
Priority + BPA = Draft pick. As of right now besides linebacker, the Jets don't have many needs on defense.
True. And that is a very specific strategy, as opposed to the broader assertion of drafting offense heavily regardless of what offensive or defensive player is available.
Likely. But if Idzik likes a WR he thinks he can get in the third round you don't draft him in the first or second round, or draft a different WR in those rounds, if you can get a stud defensive player at those slots that won't be available later. The players available when you draft have to dictate your decisions not desperation to fill needs.
Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples, Kenrick Ellis, Damon Harrison, Sheldon Richardson Goddamn! What a foundation. Agree with those who say we need to go offense. A freak TE and/or WR should be priority 1. I'm not giving up on Hill by any means, but I see Kerley ideally suited for the slot and no one on the other side (assuming Holmes is gone). RB and OLine depth can wait until rounds 3-5.
