You simply can not compare anyone to Peyton Manning. He probably has the greatest football mind ever to play the game. Dilfer was talking about how Peyton does things pre-snap that Rodgers, Brees and Brady look at in awe. No one in the NFL can replicate was he does. He doesnt have the great talent now, but he succeeds because of his mind. Aaron Murray definitely doesnt strike me as the guy that can potentially be as smart of a football player as Manning... Not even close really. Edit: when I say "you", I dont mean you. I was speaking more generally and to the poster who first made the comparison.
So did Jamarcus Russel about the arm i mean , well i dunno if he played in SEC i would have an opinion
Brett Hundley anyone? His stock is rising. Stands tall & poised in the pocket..thinks "pass first/run second", throws w/ a lot of touch, is decisive & is explosive but under control as a ball carrier. W/ his upside he could give Bridgewater a run for his money
Great matchup today of two top QBs in Georgia v. LSU. Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger. I think Mettenberger is going to skyrocket up draft boards next April (or is it May?)--the light has supposedly clicked on for the guy in a big way. Throwing lasers and very accurately. Big big kid with a big arm. Can't wait to see him against a good SEC rival. _
Murray looks like one of those guys who just flat out balls with what he was given to work with. He's probably going to get drafted in the 2nd round next year. I wouldn't mind the Jets taking him on there as strategic depth as long as Geno has clearly established himself with a good year or fallen to competition status with a bad one. I don't think the Jets really want a QB controversy next year. If they had a nice upside season and Geno looks like the man then taking a guy like Murray to give him a little push and guard against an injury or holdout down the road would be an interesting choice. You can't have too many good QB's on the roster unless it's not clear who's #1.
Both these guys looked great. I just think with Mettenbergers size he probably project higher in the NFL but Murray is still IMHO going to be a very good pro. Both of these guys looked like they were handing the ball off downfield--10, 15, 20 yard completions looked effortless. Very impressed with both. _
Taj Boyd slicing up my Orangemen early. Against awful competition, big days for Bridgewater and McCarron. _
Finally Boyd throws an INT, only bad pass he's thrown. First half 78%, 363 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT. Killing us. _
The guy has made HUGE strides since last year. Something clicked, could be a top 10 pick. Throws lasers. _
Not to throw water on the Mettenberger fire but he's a senior and this year is the only thing he's done to suggest he might be an NFL QB. It'd be interesting to see how many guys who bloomed as a senior then went on to have good NFL careers. To put it in perspective: he's raised his play to a whole new level this year. However that isn't going to be good enough next year in the NFL. He's going to need to raise his level of play again, and off of the very narrow base of just one high quality college season.
