D'Brick maybe, though he might just get a fine. Colon I'm almost willing to bet will be suspended, since his offense (hitting an official) is worse in the eyes of the NFL.
Yeah, seeing the frame by frames of the replays, the refs got every single one right. Gates lost the ball on the TD, Edelman never made a move with the ball, and Santonio was down well short of the first, and Thompkins used the ground to help him make the catch.
I doubt they get suspended these guys aren't multiple offenders my money is on a heavy fine. Sent from my HTCEVODesign4G using Tapatalk 2
They were both asked in interviews today and both said they had not heard anything yet. Should be interesting.
Don't agree with Edelman. He took two steps, had position and control, not nearly enough video evidence to reverse that call. Even after review could have gone either way.
ESPN New York's Jane McManus: "Suspensions seem a remote possibility at this point. None of the three have a track record of dangerous hits. Ryan did not publically take any of the three to task for their part in their scrum, and didn’t want to speculate on discipline." espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/27300/waiting-for-league-discipline P.S. Sad that ESPN doesn't know how to spell "publicly" correctly.
Encouraging about "remote possibility" but we're not out of the woods. A suspension could ultimately cost us the Bills game, something we can't afford. Yeah, I agree about "publicly." "Publically?"... really?
Watched the replay and hard to believe no Pats were called for anything. The JETS were all walking away and the Pats were the aggressive ones as #37 hit Mangold from behind. Right AFTER that, Colon did push a ref and started going after the Pats and threw a headbutt. Then in the scrum a Pats player threw a Punch and D'brick threw a few... I am typing this as I am rewatching it. Now, about the initial hit, there was no malicious intent. If you watch it Mangold dove as if to cut the path off but Talib who was IN BOUNDS Jumped and Spun in the air at the same time towards the sideline and jumped right into Mangold's dive. So again, Colon DID push the official down D'Brick Did throw (at least) a Punch Mangold and Talib were both IN BOUNDS at the start of the Tackle! the Announcer makes it worse by saying Mangold's hit was "late".. it was NOT a late it.
Apparently, only fines accodring to Ian Rapoport according to Twitter-I can't post links as I haven't hit 50 posts yet but its not hard to find for confirmation I think D'Brick and Nick's history (or lack of) had a big part in it
Just FYI, the same is true of the "hit" that allowed the Jets to win their Week 1 game. Lavonte David actually pushed Geno Smith before his foot ever came down out of bounds. I don't see any malicious intent in Mangold's tackle, but the NFL has apparently decided that these hits are illegal. I still doubt that Mangold will get suspended, or Ferguson either for that matter, but I wouldn't be shocked either way with Colon. The NFL can't tolerate physical acts of aggression against their officials.
John Clayton said on ESPN that Mangold, 'Brick and Colon will get fined, with Colon getting the biggest fine. He predicted no suspensions for any of them, so I find that encouraging.
http://nypost.com/2013/09/16/jets-wont-be-suspended-for-brawl-with-patriots-source/ N.Y Post confirms just fines, no suspensions, we dodged the bullet.
Don't think anyone has said it wasn't a flag, just that it wasn't a dirty play. The difference between Geno and Talib is that Talib jumped back and turned when he saw Mangold diving toward him, he wasn't actively trying to get out before. Geno was running out to stop the clock, he never changes direction or speed. Both flags, neither dirty or deserving of fines, one was incredibly bone-headed, the other at worst a fraction late.
I thought Mangold's hit was definitely late and with mild intent to injure. Worth a fine. I think that the league is extra judicious in handing out suspensions to offensive linemen. Can you imagine if a q-b got injured because the league tried to make an example of his blindside tackle? Not that they wouldn't do it, but I think they'd have to be pretty blownaway by that lineman's behavior. And what the Jets guys did was not premeditated and they didn't have a history- as far as I'm aware. So no suspensions seems about right.
Good all can play Sunday. Not that it matters after the fact, but watching the replay, Butch Whalefolk walked around #37 Dennard Alphonso who had shoved Mangold from behind in order for Wilfolk to get in D'Brick's grill and shove him. D'Brick shoved Wolfolk back whereupon Wolfolk threw a punch at D'Brick. Wolfolk should've been fined. Colon races in to back up his teammate, accidentally comes in contact with referee and continues into the scrum. Ref rightfull throws flag. Ducasse following Colon grabs the ref like "are you ok?" whereupon ref peels back away from him. Ducasse goes into the scrum and is sucker punched by #99 Michael Buchanan (R-Ill.) who is grabbed by a teammate and led out of the pile. Wilfolk and Buchanan definitely should've been fined as well (and possibly Alphonso). Antonio Allen (#39), Sheldon Richardson (#91) and Leger Douzable (#78) get "1st-responder" props.
I just read in the Star-Ledger that ESPN is reporting that there will be no suspensions. That's a really good thing for Sunday's game.
Are you actually going to try to imply that Geno Smith, at that speed with both feet off the ground, could have somehow changed direction in mid-air to stay inbounds?
The hit might have been late, but Mangold was already coming at full momentum to stop this clown who was dancing on the sidelines instead of just getting out of bounds. If he didn't dance like that, he would not have gotten hit. He pretty much ran into a diving Mangold.
