he fell short last night for certain. He made some bad throws with guys who were in position to make easy catches had the throw been better (regardless of whether they would have caught it or not).

that being said, he made some pretty damn good throws as well, so his ability to be accurate isn't in question. so is it a matter of lack of ability to be accurately consistently (even bad QB's can make good throws every once and a while) that can never be recovered from, or other issues unique to last night?

likely other issues. I doubt it was a coincidence that his INT's came in the second half when it was raining, which can have an effect on how you throw the ball.

so what we learned from last night with Geno is that he has ability, but is a rookie with minimal experience and is thus prone to making mistakes while he learns, and can make bad throws in the rain.

hardly something to be terribly concerned about at this point.

What the hell are you looking at? It's the same WRs! Gates, Kerley, Holmes, Hill. What? Are you saying that Spadola puts this team over the edge?? Sure, Holmes was hurt last season, but he's also hurt this season. So is Kerley (who is better than Holmes at this stage anyway). Patrick Turner was a little useful last year as well.

You are kidding yourself. Just stop.

it can also be the difference between a HOF QB and a rookie QB in his second game. you can't seriously take the position that the only reason for such is that one is a bad QB and the other a good QB, as if experience plays no part in it.

Sure it's good to hear but how often do you hear a QB come out after a game and say "I played awesome, the rest of this team sucked big time. This loss is entirely on them."

Never. That's how often. They might be a bit more wishy washy or just use the same tired "we have to be better" line but it's hardly revolutionary that a QB that throws three picks says he is to blame for the loss.

You should watch a Cam Newton press conference.

Don't understand why they put so much on Geno's plate. All those five and seven step drops, especially in the fourth quarter and in those weather conditions and with Ivory running the ball with authority and a deficient receiving corps.
The only rookie QB that would have had a chance of executing that assignment, and even then with difficulty, was Andrew Luck, last year.

wow this is quite the shit storm....

first int, terrible read, terrible pass.

second int, good read, terrible pass

third int, bad read, bad pass

geno smith had flashes of brilliance tonight, he also had flashes of what a rookie usually looks like. i thought he threw the ball well in the first half and started getting behind guys a bit in the second. he holds the ball for a long time and our routes seemed to be set to go pretty deep.

personally i would have run the ball more and thrown a little bit more underneath, it seemed like we threw over 15 yards downfield a really large amount last night. i did not like the gameplan morningwood put together.

Geno Smith is the 3rd worst rated passer in the NFL thus far. What position would he have to finish to NOT draft a QB this year? To me he needs to be top 15 or they should absolutely draft another QB. Handing the franchise to this kid unless he shows he is above average would be an unmitigated disaster.

you can't speak for Sanchez and how he felt about the receivers he's throwing to that is the point.

You draft the best player available regardless. If they're picking that high (Bridgewater), then Geno will not have been a top 15 QB. If they're not able to get Bridgewater, then there's no need to go crazy in the draft on another uncertainty. You can draft one and call it a competition. After 2 weeks, he doesn't really look any worse than Sanchez to me. Most people would have said we'd be 0-2 at this point and we could have been 2-0 (albeit ugly). This team just needs the best players, so always go BPA. But no more projects, please. I want collegiate production.

So you are saying draft a QB either way? I am definitely in favor of that. Btw, if not looking worse than Sanchez is the requisite, we are setting the bar historically low lol.

What is the obsession with Bridgewater? Have you seen the schedule he plays? Its no better and likely much worse than Geno played against. He has huge numbers, so did Geno. I dont get it.

Diving db's didn't count, just like diving WR doesn't count as a true dropped pass. Sorry, do not pass go do not collect 100$.
As for the argument that some DBS were shocked the ball was in their hands really doesn't help your argument Junc.

Again, the EXACT same Criteria was applied to ALL plays. And Junc they're not just stats IF they were derived from watching the game films. lol.

you focus so much on the microcosm you miss the macrocosm. Kind of like looking at a picture of the Mona Lisa through a 2" diameter tube and only seeing the green and therefore coming to the conclusion the picture is of a grassy plain.

Stats won't tell you the story, usually, of 1 game...but a series of games sets a trend, a series of seasons sets a norm. It's really remarkable really, there's always a statistical variance and you'll always get outliers.

And as far as talent, don't make me laugh, you went over the line with that statement and you know it.

3rd worst rated in a league where qb's played all of once, thats not cherry picked or anything nope...

looking at rankings at the end of the season might not even be completely telling of reality, but looking at them early on is just pointless.

but then you've made up you're mind long ago right? he's a terrible player that will never be franchise material, not like that future guy, who will be so much better!!! that guy will show promise immediately!

To be clear here, I'm not saying the Jets WON'T draft a new QB or that Smith is most definitely our guy for the next decade, I'm just mocking the lack of patience. if he shows no improvement from where he is (which with a cooler head isn't a terrible place to be for a rookie of two games) than we all know what happens.

Was it a dropped pick 6? Was it a pick 6? No QB is going to be accurate all of the time. But some, like the elite QB's, are accurate most of the time. I'll bet you bottom dollar Brady makes those Shit receiver's look good by the end of the season.

This.......I know there's another thread re Marty...........but once again real suspect play calling. You've got a situation where you're in a tight road divisional game where receivers have been dropping the ball on both sides all night.........and 100+ yrads rushing at that point, not to mention a rookie QB, and a defense who has a rep for getting timely INT's........run the friggin ball some to take some pressure off this kid. Or call more high % passes. Geno was pulling the string on all throws late in the game becasue the pressure got to him, can't blame him this early on.

It's unbelievable what I seen from these Coordinators who get paid to do this.....they think they are so clever, they outsmart themselves. The game is much more simple than these guys make it sometimes.

oh and I still cannot stand ou receivers, Gates, Hill, get the f outta here already.

I agree, I'm no expert but I don't get why folks are acting like this kid is the next Dan Marino.

Bridgewater has played some real stinkers in his career.

Actually was more of a reference to Sanchez than Geno, I don't blame you for not reading the full thread though :) I often don't either ha ha.

The debate, if you want to call it that, was about whether or not a good QB makes good receivers or vice verse..those saying a good QB can't are taking one example to make their case.

I'm not completely sold on TB either. He was also rumored to have ended his commitment to the U of Miami when their former coach was fired saying "I don't want to play for a white coach" and thus signed with Louisville and Charlie Strong.

BUT, for all that, the guy doesn't play in a gimmick system, and he lit up an elite defense (Gators) in a BCS bowl game. Geno is a system QB and wilted against good D's.

Aaron Murray and Taj Boyd are IMO the two top QBs, then TB as a clear third. Manziel I wouldn't touch, Mariota I wouldn't touch and while Stephen Morris won the Manning camp he has looked bad in his first 2 starts.
