Kyle Wilson still doesn't know to turn around when the ball is being thrown. Same thing that is wrong with Dee.
Milliner island? Lets hope he makes significant progress, if not, maybe in a couple years he can take Wilsons spot in the nickel, but my initial reaction, he looks lost
Millner missed some camp time and is adjusting to a totally different style for the Jets. He has much ability but he needs time. Not everyone can come in and produce like Richardson. And yes Walls played very well on the outside and Wilson is his usual solid self. Jets are deep at corner.
Was never crazy over the pick. I don't believe in "Treading water" position wise..ala drafting the same position after trading a major piece. That said..you gotta give him sometime. The over reaction on this board is insane! He's gotten beat quite a few times & he's also had nice coverage quite a few times. You take the good w/ the bad when it comes to young players.
This is the WHOLE POINT. None of these guys have lived up to their draft slot or grade. You don't spend a number 9 draft pick on a guy that isnt elite. It's been proven time and again that Alabama defensive players are overdrafted.
I hated the top 3 jets picks, but I'm quickly starting to love the Richardson pick, dude's got beast written all over him.
I have no problem with Rex benching a guy who isn't playing well. BB did it last week with Ridley. The only reason he played today was because they had nobody else. My only question to Rex: why didn't you ever bench Mark until late last season when it was over. That was your biggest mistake as a coach and the reason you'll get fired if the Jets don't win games this year.
Sorry I have to disagree w/ you about Milliner. I don't disagree that many Bama players get over-drafted & wasn't completely onboard w/ the jets drafting him. Despite the pre-draft hype of him going top 5...pick 9 was about right for him. He definitely benefitted from the cast around him in college but he also is a damn good athlete that boasts movement, top end speed & length. When you combine top end physical talent w/ good production(whether a result of surrounding cast or not) you usually end up w/ a top 10 pick. Additionally, isn't putting him in Rex's system w/ the surrounding cast the jets are currently building essentially putting him in a similar situation to that of college?
the WR lined up in the backfield. it was a nice wrinkle that caught everyone (including the safeties) off guard ... and if they were in zone its not his responsibility to line up in front of that WR dee milliner is the definition of elite talent ... we'll see if it translates milliner has been battling a calf/achillies injury for most of camp wilson actually got his head around on a deep ball last night! i was shocked and amazed
Milliner will be okay. The life of a rookie corner in the NFL is a tough one. It was a good decision to bench him though and hopefully he takes this learning experience in a good way, not getting discouraged or pissed. I think he will learn from it and get better as the season goes one. If he's still making the same mistakes 3 years from now - ala- Kyle Wilson, then its time to be concerned.
For those of you thinking he's a bust after 2 games.... Gilmore got roasted his first game last season against the Jets, struggled his second game, and then went on to be one of the best corners over the final 11 weeks of the season, blanketing opposing teams' #1 WR, and not allowing a TD the rest of the year. QB is the only position I wont make excuses for just because they're rookies. Every other position usually struggles right away before getting good. Give him some time.
Dee was not benched for not turning around. He was benched for mental mistakes. You can live with bad poor technique but not with lining up incorrectly, playing the wrong coverage, forgetting calls...etc. It just means your head was not in the game.
dee milliner reminds me of patrick peterson a little bit, a physical freak that needs to adjust to the physicality of the nfl. i remember watching peterson his rookie year and thinking he was god awful as he got burned a lot, but he really turned it around near the end of his rookie year and is now one of the premier CBs in the league give dee time to put it together
Milliner can cover. But he is either confused by NFL offenses and the Jets D play calls or just not so far a four down player. In a year he might be very very good.
There was no CB on that side of the field. Milliner lined up on the same side as Cro as though he is following Edelman wherever he lines up. But the slot is Antonio Allen's responsibility when they are in the base defense. You can see the FS try to point to Dee to move over right before the Pats hurried up and snapped the ball. In base CB are to ALWAYS line up outside on opposite sides unless it's a 2 WR set and both WRs are on one side of the field. I bet he got confused by the personnel grouping and didn't realize there were 3 WRs on the field. Again stop with the excuses, his head was not in the game and he got benched, plain and simple. That doesn't mean he sucks and will never be good.
:eaglessuck: When you don't what happened yesterday happens. Even if the safety did not bite it would have been a TD as there was no way the FS playing in the box would have been able to keep up with Dobson on a go route. Furthermore, that was not the first time the Pats had that personnel group in that drive against our base personnel. They had the same exact group two plays earlier when Cro got beat on that slant and go from Eldeman and Brady missed him. In that play Eldeman was initially covered by Allen in the slot and Cro was on Thompkins. Eldeman went in motion from the slot to the outside. So Allen and Cro switched responsibilities Allen remained on the Thompkins who was now the slot. Dobson was on the opposite side lined-up at the end of the o-line like a TE. That time Milliner lined up correctly across from him. The only difference in the TD play is that Eldeman was tighter in and did not go in motion. Dobson still lined up at the end of the o-line but off the LOS. Brady recognized Milliner's mistake immediately and snapped the ball before the Jets could correct it. Rex prepared the base D for this exact thing against the Giants or Eagles, I forget where he played the base D almost the entire game.
