That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The top 4 will be better than Geno in the long run? You do understand that 3 of those top 4 will most likely be career backups right? Looking back at history, QBs are taken in the first round every year and most end up failing.
and throw 3 INTs in the 4th which was as many 4th qtr INTs as mark had all last year. mark was making more mistakes than he should have, we should have lost those games last year w/ us punting more instead of turning it over more BUT he had no chance which is something most people don't realize or acknowledge.
I am not blaming Geno, he is learning but I was tolkd any QB would be an upgrade over Mark so I don't want to hear excuses why that hasn't turned out to be true. No they don't which is why you have trouble evaluating players/units.
More BULLSHIT as hes down just this. If you watch his games this preseason he was throwing effective screen passes and gasp... threw the ball away. Remember, the stadium burst out with a saracastic cheer after that?
geno played well, imo. the first pick was a bad decision, no question. he should have tucked it and run. in fact, he had a lot of running lanes that he didnt take last night the second pick was a great read, but a poor throw. im willing to give him a pass due to the weather and because the result was effectively a punt (and not a pick 6 like we constantly saw from our last rookie qb) the last pick ... i thought he was trying to throw a back shoulder pass and hill ran a go route, instead ... i think geno had the right idea here because there was safety help over the top. hopefully these guys will get on the same page with more reps. yea, marshall faulk and marvin harrison were just jags [sarcasm] did you not see the heavy rain and high winds? even brady was off ... the difference is that they play zone defense so theyre in better position to take advantage of errant throws well said
I don't think Hill will ever be a #1 so we're in agreement here. The problem is the jets lack a true #1 receiver. all of the Jets receivers are #2 or #3 guys. Or if you go old school designation the Jets have a lot of X receivers but no Z receivers. Of course the current NFL doesn't use the X,Y,Z formula anymore but I think it's an appropriate analogy here.
But doesn't match the turnovers of Mark in a Game, not even in Sanchez's rookie season And he's yet to throw a pick 6...knock on wood.
YAY - Sanchez threw ONE pass away after having it drilled into his head for a week that you can't use your special move (INT to d-line) anymore. You need to open your eyes if you don't see the difference. Geno has already completed a bunch of screens that Sanchez would normally fail on and thrown away a number of passes that Sanchez would have tried to force into double or triple coverage rather than throw away. My only guess is that you're so blinded by your Sanchez fathead that you can't see these things.
Jets should make calls to Braylon,Randy Moss,Ochocinco or whoever else is available, we could really use a veteran presence at wr
oh goody so you go back to this stupid shjt. The point is that he completed effective screen passes and was throwing the ball away, this is what I was addressing with your Stupid Bullshit of a POST. If you want to regurgitate the same shit over and over again fine, but im not here to discuss that same thing over and over again in yet another thread.
Lol, next year there are going to be probably MORE than 4 guys better than Geno, but lets stick with Geno because you're hoping he develops? We haven't had a franchise guy in forever and there are going to be some very worthy QBs coming out- not like the weak class this past year. But you go by the stats- 3 out of 4 will be backups so let's not try to get that stud QB. Ok. _
Two games does not a story tell, nor will one season. The simple fact is over 4 years of starting Sanchez never progressed, he continued to make the same rookie errors over and over. Maybe Geno mature's and progresses, maybe he doesn't. But I'll guarantee you this, if he's still completing 55% +/- 1% of his passes and turning the ball over 20+ times (without scoring at least 1.5 TD's to every turnover) He won't be starting in year 4, and possibly not even in year 3. AS for your argument here, Geno is an improvement for the simple reason he's more likely to have his curve go up than Sanchez is now. Worst case scenario is Geno performs about like Sanchez over his career....and costs ALOT less.
You're right and I do think we have some talent at receiver between Holmes, Kerley and Hill. But if we have a legit number 1, it would make those other guys better. If Braylon is healthy the Jets have to consider bringing him in.
Feel free to leave then. We discuss Sanchez doing the same shit over and over again because he blows and keeps doing the same stupid shit over and over again. Geno is already beyond him in some categories even if he's making rookie mistakes that you expect rookies to make. That's the point you don't get and likely never will.
That's just not true. Just b/c his worst stat years were year 1 and year 4 doesn't discount the improvements in year 2 and year 3 and everyone is whining about the weapons for Geno but what we had last night was a million times better than what we had most of 2012.
Cot Damn. You said he cant complete screen passes and doesnt throw the ball away. YOU WERE WRONG. Deal with that. That was I was addressing. Carry on with the thread or come holla in the others if you want to do a Sanchez talk for the 1000th time.
THEN WHY EVEN DRAFT GENO THIS YEAR IN THE FIRST PLACE! christ, what 2nd round WR, RB, TE ould we have drafted. You just dont seem to grasp that 1) only 1 QB can play on any given snap 2) The QB needs talent to produce (see Brady last night) 3) To aquire tanlent you need to either draft them or aquire them. 5) If you keep drafting QB's you CANT DRAFT talent and overpay to aquire...
If you paid any attention to college football last year, you would know that right about this time last year Geno Smith was the concsensus #1 pick and the beat QB in college football. Second, im assuming those 3-4 QBs are Bridgewater, Mariota, Manziel and Boyd. Bridgewater is a great prospect, better than Geno was for sure. But you are going to have to be drafting 1st overall to get him. Mariota has all the tools and could be a top 5 pick. Who knows what the NFL will think of Manziel, but I personally dont see a great arm. Boyd is probably a propsect on a very similar level as Geno was. Would I waste a first rounder on a similar level QB when he will walk into the same shitty situation Geno is in? Hell no. Third, lets wait until the end of thw year until we talk about drafting a Qb. He has certainly shown more positives and negatives. He can be a good Qb
Has Sanchez completed a screen pass before in his life? Yes, of course. Does he still struggle severely with the simple task of completing a screen pass? Absolutely - that's why his special move is INT's to d-lineman and he was STILL doing it this preseason. An NFL quality QB can regularly complete a fucking screen pass. Sanchez, cannot. If you don't get that Sanchez is severely lacking in his ability to complete screen passes in the NFL then I cannot help you. You need to help yourself. Same idea with throwing the ball away. Has he done it before? Of course. Does he do it as frequently as he should when a play is a lost cause? Absolutely not. He still forces way too many throws into double and triple coverage when he should be throwing them away. Geno is already doing both of these things at a much higher success rate than Sanchez ever has or ever will. This is not difficult to see if you understand what you're watching. Geno has things he needs to improve too. Luckily he's a rookie and rookies generally get better with experience.
