I agree. VJax was the best player on the field today. He had another big 3rd down catch wide open. Cro gave way too much cushion all day Great start for Geno Hope to see coples this thursday
Most NFL kickers are pretty close together. I like Nick Folk, who's statistically identical to the huge pool of non-elite guys while never really letting us down when we *need* him.
as great as the D looked at times I was very disappointed in them. When they weren't getting help from TB shooting themselves in the foot w/ penalties and dumb mistakes they tore through us and w/ the game on the line once again we failed. I love the pieces, I think we will be very good this year defensively but watching our D blow late game leads has gotten old.
Winslow was huge. Folk. 48yrd game winner plus kickoffs out of the EZ. Davis for saving the game. D Line for creating havoc at the line all game.
Interesting. So despite the fact that the Jets were ranked #10 in rushing yards out of every team this weekend against the #1 run stopping D in the league, there was zero running game. Sure thing. It must REALLY suck to be one of those 20 other teams ranked below us. They must all be ready to cut their RBs. We had a pass heavy game plan, because we knew that it was very tough to run on this team. We had to beat them by exploiting holes in their secondary and we did it. I wasn't a fan of those wildcat 3rd and short calls, which added to the run game looking weak.
A lot of people made plays and contributed to the W. But no. 1 had to be Folk with the 3FGs. Those went for half of the Jets team points incl. the winning FG.
The D wouldnt "blow" so many late leads if the offense actually scored points every once in a while. Too many times the D is on the field protecting a 1 or 2 point lead. The defense SCORED 2 points. The defense basically Allowed 10 points(jets turned it over on their own 3). The defense got a turnover right after we turned it over. huge play. im not going to knock the jets defense. with a competent offense we win this game pretty easily. to have your defense hold the opponent to 17 points while the offense handed them a free score is pretty damn good. Also, you can say the D choked away a late lead BUT The defense stopped the Bucs 3 straight plays with 3 timeouts left holding them to a FG giving us 1 last opportunity to win the game ... which we did. if the bucs get a first down there, they can run the clock down to 3 seconds and kick a GQ FG leaving us with no time. if the bucs score a TD there it ices the game and we lose. the D didnt hold the lead, but they didint completely collapse either, and overall on the day were extremely good. If our offense gave us a decent 2 possesions lead now and then, the D wouldnt blow leads so often
No excuses, the O gave them a late lead. The D blew it, a theme we have seen over and over and over again through the years. TB was settling for a FG just trying to run out the clock, the D didn't hold anything. The D was helped out by a million penalties and mistakes by TB including the free 2 pts on the bad snap/miscommunication. The D was good, it wasn't as good as the #s indicate and again they blew a late lead.
our running backs had 23 carries for 44 yards. that is beyond awful. thats less then 2 yards a carry. we ranked top 10 in rush yards this week because Geno was fantastic, rushing 6 times for 47 yards... which was his point: Geno was our entire offense, without his running yestarday, we'd be sunk. our runningbacks were about as bad as it gets yestarday, only pittsburgs were worse, and they may very well cut someone this week. Ivory was awful. its impossible to say otherwise. 10 carries for 15 yards? Powell was awful. 13 carries for 29 yards? that is about as pathetic as it gets
We have seen the defense give the offense 1 last possesion to win, only to see the offense fail a TON more then we have seen the defense blow a late lead. again, the defense has been unreal. you cant expect the defense to shut out every single team they face in the 4th quarter if your offense stinks it up and fails to EVER put up 20 points. few teams can consistently hold the opponent to 17 points or less. The jets Defense allowed a net of 15 points(they score 2, and allowed 17). that is beyond phenominal, considering 7 of the points came on a TD where the jets turned it over inside the 5.
I don't care how well a defense plays for 57 minutes. When a team has the lead and the defense needs to make a stop to win the game and doesn't,the defense did not do its job at the most important point in the game. The Jets D failed T the end of yesterday's game. As for the running game, both running backs ran hard. It was the OL that was awful not the backs. TB has one of the best run defenses in the league, so lets not blame the backs. And Smith was the running game yesterday. You can't count team yards and ignore Smith's 40+ yards.
DL: Pretty much dominant across the board.Even on that last drive they were getting very good pressure. Antonio Allen: Slightly stiff when left on an island but what a ball hawk...he was all over the place Kyle Wilson: Thought he bounced back well after a lousy preseason. His name was only called acouple times & only for positive contributions. Stephen Hill: Really did a good job of finding the hole in zones for Geno. Took some big hits but held onto the ball Geno: Poised, smooth & accurate. What more can you say?
Can we give a shout out to the fans at the game - maybe not a game ball but a thumbs up. The stadium seemed to be packed with enthusiastic Jet fans and the noise level was near deafening when our D was on. I know TB was having difficulty due to the noise, especially in the 4th quarter. In my section and all around that I could see, fans stayed on their feet for the entire 4th quarter. It was nice to see that since the past few years have been dismal at the stadium.
I don't know if I necessarily agree with this because it seems to be short of shallow in a box analysis of games. Games are not made up of 1 drive they are made up of plenty. But, I do agree that the defense can grow into a better unit. For example Milliner was caught with his back to the ball and seemed hesitant on many routes. When he becomes comfortable they should be better off. Also, Cro did not seem to be jamming Vincent Jackson (almost as if he felt he knew how to cover him from his San Diego days). Think the secondary can improve and I think the linebackers, defensive ends improve when Coples comes back.
Rex was taking the bullet for his guys, he's done it before and he'll do it again. we were discussing late game drives. I agree on the D, I think it will get better and better as the season progresses, I just hope they can also finish games.
Huh? He said he would have called timeout if he had realized the scheme he was in. We had a linebacker on Jackson that play and Landry missed an open field tackle. The only guy who was beating us was Jackson, Rex screwed that up.
